What should the new benchmarking resolution be?

It is very important that you vote, only if you participate in the Benchmarking Thread.

The issue of a CPU bottleneck will be present, and as such I really think we should increase the resolution.

Again, only vote if you participate in the Benchmarking Thread.

Also, the results will take effect next bench. Unless I get a ton of requests for an increase within 1-2 days.

Thanks for taking my suggestion into consideration! I'm definitely going to start participating, even though I have an old q6600 CPU :P My vote is for 1920x1080 -- the new standard 16:9 gaming resolution (sadly, I know 1920x1200 is better...).

edit: I'm your huckleberry's suggestion of running a couple of resolutions sounds good to me. 1680 and 1920 would be great if possible.

most everyone has a monitor capable of 1280x720. I vote keep it at that so that we won't alienate anyone from participating.

Other: keeping it at or below 1600x900 keeps me in the game. No new monitor in my foreseeable future :(

Having it at 1920x1080 limits a few more users, as I know that reflex only has 1680x1050 screens. And it can't be more than that, as that is as high as my monitor goes. lol.

I think 1680x1050 is a good middle ground, but some others don't have monitors that support it.

Do you have a 1080p TV? Couldn't you temporarily hook it up to that?

My 22 inch monitor is only up to 1680x1050 (its kinda old)

But i enjoy getting super FPS with my setup at this resolution

I say 1280. It lets more people participate, and it makes me feel good about my ginormous 1920 monitor.

i think we should run 2x - 1 at the universal current res and 1 at 1680x1050 if you got it

Since 1280 seems unpopular. I voted 1440.

I refuse (ok, maybe I will a bit, but i won't like it) to participate if i have to run this full screen......

Also notice that it's only 17% and that anyone running lower would be screwed.

You didn't read the rest though.

1920 x 1080 17.63%
1920 x 1200 6.95%

So 46.89% in the survey have 1680x1050 or better. The point is that running benchmarks at low resolution isn't a very good test of the graphics card and is primarily cpu limited. It's also probably worth noting the clock speed of the cpu's being tested.

What is wrong with testing the CPU?

If your CPU sucks, get a better one..... looking at you AMD guys

Nothing in particular, but the benchmarks that we are running are gaming graphics benchmarks. If you want to do cpu benchmarks look to Sandra, Hiper Pi, wPrime, etc.

I'm only using 40-60% of my GPU during the SF4 Benchmark:

SFIV is highly CPU based, but will scale well with better GPUs as well.

3D != GPU benchmark.

3dm01 is another good example of a 3d bench that scales better on CPUs.

I'm trying to get bass to let us do SuperPi, so I can flex my 2600K.
