A crazy little thing called Kalt...

Problem I see with that is the 40% who don't want it you are kicking off the server. Going from a full server to a half full server. That is something I see leadership not liking very much.

Also what would happen if people join halfway through a game. Do they have to wait it out for the round to end? Kinda the main reason I hate CSS is waiting for a freaking round to end.

An active realism will quickly boost numbers.... that other 40% almost always stick around for the realism. that's the thing about putting realism into the tags, they understand at anytime it could change.

Well...Chocolate that's how realism works... So yes they would (assuming it's an active realism)...when the mod's not active the server play's like any other server.

As much as I enjoy the realsim events (When I can participate), I would much rather see a 24/7 Kalt instant spawn rotation server. Like Stormy said, admins spend way too much time saying lineup, not that wall, quit shooting, yada yada....... And if you start kicking people for doing those, then you are going to end up with an empty server pretty quickly.

I must say again though,. Members of the realism community understand what to do. In eGO we have little kids who don't read the campaign handbook, that's why it takes soo long. The type of members a realism server will attract will make things run smoothly.

Which is why I think a part-time realism server (with the 24/7 Kalt being the base) would be the most efficient/effective in terms of keeping our numbers up.

You talk about players leaving when realism starts up, but don't discount the additional players that will join solely for the purpose of realism.

Simply put --

1) Having a 24/7 Kalt server only will only attract Kalt lovers.

2) Having a 24/7 realism server will only attract realism lovers.

3) Having a flexible 24/7 Kalt base with realism when warranted, will mean the server could theoretically be more active/populated than the first two scenarios.

DK and Skippy have pretty much covered all of the facts, but here is a quick, short version:
---Those who haven't voted for Realism might not necessarily leave.
---Others will join when realism starts up.
---People will understand when they join that it might switch to realism (perhaps why they joined in the first place).
---Rounds don't take long to end.
---It would be a little more laid back than the campaign.

I think the idea Skippy posed (he wasn't the first, but he laid it out the best) is going to be the most popular...when enough wanna realism and a realism admin is present--we do it. When these two factors aren't met, back to Kalt.

I think that a lot of people who are commenting on how these realism servers work aren't actually familiar with them. Tons of people get it to work and I think we could get it to work even better. I know, for a fact, that the handful of guys arguing for this are the ones who have actually experienced it (thereby are educated on the matter), since I see the same dozen people regularly rotating between half a dozen other realism servers.

In fact, on that matter, this would get a whole bunch of people "back" to eGO servers. It's not that we show lack of loyalty--we're all still regulars on our servers--it's just that we split time 50/50 between our pubs and "their" realism servers these days.

My opinion is a rotational server, but with maps that are already not in use. Such maps as Kalt, Palermo, and any others that may draw players for a "change of scenery" (Colmar?). I am a big fan of the alternate Kalt maps also.

I'd like to see a pub eGO realism server. The server would remain full and Skippy and Death hit it on the nose, that 40% who voted no will most likely stay because they know the chance is there. I for one would be a much more active member on eGO servers if we had it, it'd be my new home pretty much.

HOWEVER: Realism units are prone to cuss, when we restrict something like that, why wont they just say "Uh.. Lets go back to ours?" Also what if the admin running the realism has to suddenly go? You cant let it run crazy, and what if there is only one admin? He'll be stuck on one team without a way to admin the other. Also how would we switch the maps, Unless there is some simple way for leadership to allow us to do that, then there isnt a point.

Also we cant guarantee the support from other realism units on our server because:
1. Our mod is set up different, we slap health down to 80, most units keep it at 100.
2. They run their servers at 100 tick (I dont know what that means, but I can tell it makes me better) I know we dont run ours like that, because Im terrible on our servers (Unless Ron just downloads hacks onto my computer to make me worse, just on our servers, cause he is scared of me)
3. We have way more rules on our servers than they do, they actively joke, but those jokes arent appropriate for our pg-13 attitude

A couple of reasons it wouldn't work in general:
1) Our rules in our Saturday Realism are much different than any other unit's rules. Would we keep our rules the same as our Saturdays, or have a seperate set of rules? That just gets confusing
2) We cant guarantee that we'll have an admin on who can run it all the time, but if there is an admin on there , what will stop the pubs from saying "WE WANT REALISM" "Oh but I cant run it" "I DONT [Expletive] CARE, RUN IT YOU [Expletive] [Expletive]"?

The O and G permissions would remain the same (ability to admin w/k/b situations) or even rule violations (e.g. not listening to leaders, etc) Perhaps we make it a rule to realism admins that 2 must be online? If the Realism Admin has to go it's simply a last round (a lot of servers work like this) of course to DQ's could happen. but an admin shouldn't run one unless he knows he can stay to last it out... Normal Admins can still be around to handle eGO server violations (it'd be like in jail making it only so the jail admins can use speaktoall, seeall, and revokeCT

1: Some other servers drop it to 90, most players don't care if we dock it down. we can also grab a stock command and set spawn health pretty easily

2. Not all realism servers are 100 tick, it's actually less crucial in realism then in competitive/normal game play.

3. It should be made clear in the MOTD, and by the realism admins about the rules. Most people can refrain from it. several servers actually prohibit the same jokes we do (But allow swearing). It wont be that difficult if we train admins well.

1) the only differnces in rules I see in the rules is weapon restrictions which wouldn't happen on the pub realism (as the two leaders will choose what weapons they want) ... I don't know of very many other rules that differ from our saturday ones?

2) I've never seen that happen on a realism pub server when realism isn't active.

any variation of kalt. While realism sounds fun, I imagine it would be difficult to keep organized.

I actually don't think it's necessary to have 2 Realism admins on at all. It's just like our other servers, we don't shut them down just because there's only 1 G or 1 O on one of the teams, right? If something comes up and the Realism admin has to go immediately and there's no backup, then he/she just shuts the realism down and the server reverts back to the normal base map, easy as pie.

I say we have a roatation kalt server, I dislike kalt but if there was a rotating kalt server i might be bothered to play it some more :)

There does seem to be a lot of pessimism about the Realism idea, but I notice it's coming generally from those who don't spend a lot of time in realism, outside of our weekly event/campaign.

Not that that's a bad thing, since it's stoking a meaningful, and hopefully educational discussion (at least from a realism point of view).

Keep it coming, but hopefully everyone continues to keep an open mind rather than being too absolute in your opinions.

thats what powers the advisors have to change the settings due to it has all admin access to run realism u can have any admin change settings and screw it up so i say leave it be, or have certain people have certain powers extra in that map who knows let spray and them figure that out on a later basis, just keep the idea's comming :)

Well yes, that's true, but then again for the most part we haven't had that problem for the regular realisms on Sat either.

The main things that would need to be done would be --

  • password protect the server
  • start the realism
  • replay the round
  • DQ a side
  • cancel realism
  • change map

Sourcemod has a command directly built into it for map changes, perhaps we find a way to create a flag command for this, then manually enter the steamID: flags style permissions into the sourcemod admin file? or something along those lines...
