I started playing DoD about 3 years ago, and our own Flash happened is the first server I connected to and really the only one I played on. That was when it was alive and well. The good eGO people who played on that server a lot, like Capt Goomba and a few others I can't remember, convinced me to join.
That is nice, but honestly has nothing to do with my opinion on using the resources elsewhere, I am sure there are a few with similar stories.
Do you guys want to know how to get the map alive and well again?
There are a few ways to do this, one is to steal members from our others servers. The result of this would be a dropping of one of our other servers in rankings. This is much of the way Anzio was being filled prior to the FF switch. To an extent it is still filled that way and as a result Donner has suffered slightly. Donner however has a large (if not as big as some of our others mainstay maps) public player population base and so is able to 'weather' the temporary losses better than say Kalt or possibly Charlie at times.
Another option is to steal members from other clan servers. This is actually the best candidate, but we need to find a way to accomplish it, the FF Anzio has helped that server quite a bit so far, but BG still has a MUCH higher ranked Anzio server so we will need to populate it more often to get it rolling. That will take members from other servers to accomplish.
Your other option is to bring in new DoD:S players to help you repopulate Flash, not really a strong candidate IMO.
Well first off I think people should stop thinking Flash is a bad map by hearing one person say it is and give it a try, it is a great map.
Are you suggesting that people don't play flash because some person said it was a bad map? You are saying they have obviously never tried it or they would like it? Going to have to disagree, is it a bad map, no I don't believe so, but it doesn't keep members playing for long.
And I have noticed is that everyone focuses on servers that don't need help, like Donner, Anzio, and Kalt, those servers, when empty, everyone freaks out and tries to fill it, but not Flash. So why don't you guys try to help it? I would really like to know.
As was stated before, we try and keep our more popular servers higher in the rankings, the more players that come through there, the better chance we have at getting them to visit our other more 'needy' maps. It is much better to have a few higher ranking servers to funnel players to lower ranking servers than to have 5 servers ranked sub 200 that are never full. That will also hurt with potential sponsors if we have poor rankings.
If we decide to leave Flash as a dead server I can see another division attempting to re-purpose the resources to something that will bring in more players. I don't know if that's possible, but it's something to consider. I believe we would be better off rolling it into an existing 'successful' map to retain those resources for DoD:S.
And as of right now, there is a reasonable amount of people on everyone of our servers, except Flash
Actually I don't think we have enough players in the servers, if there is a single clan server playing the same 24/7 map as one of our others servers that is ranked higher, I believe there is more we can do.
This is in now way meant to shoot you down or crush your dreams of a revitalized Flash server, I just think we have many more issues within this division and we should get working on those as I see flash as far less important. But like I said this is my opinion only.
