Hello everyone,

The jail server is a complex and often stressful environment that can produce some tense situations. Please read this post and think about how you can make your games more friendly to players in the server.

Lately many wardens have been giving commands over the mic like "when I type go" do something on round start. They then encourage the T's to move multiple times often threatening to kill them if they don't move all the time while not typing go.

They wait 5 - 10 seconds have the T's shift walk across the map then they kill the stack because they did not type go. Let's be honest. Is this really fair or fun for any players involved? No it isn't. Remember the rules. Orders should be clear and fair to all players. We shouldn't be looking for cheap ways to eliminate terrorists. Be creative and use what is built into the map, or games like last reaction/first reaction. Don't kill players on a technicality. If this continues we are simply going to make default cell exit rules be shiftwalk out knifing distance and be frozen. It's not fun for anyone when we have to add more rules, but in this case it might be appropriate.

Secondly, I want to remind everyone that bounties are not allowed in the Jail server when placed on T players. It encourages freekilling. Think about how it makes the player feel as well. They are simply there to play jail, they might not want to be singled out. Make people feel welcome in our servers otherwise they might not come back.

As always if you have specific suggestions about Jail, Cryptex is a good resource. Specific questions about maps should be addressed to Rogue Sniper.

Thanks,

Great post bear, I don't even need to be a T to feel the pain of half the Ts getting mowed down from cheap tricks like that.

I agree 100% on what you propose. I have seen many issues regarding what you say. Thank you for clairifying.

I like this post. I prefer going to beta, as he is always very handy

Agreed. The same thing applies with saying "When I type go.." and then typing "goat" or any other variation of what was mentioned above. I think we could all do a better job making the server fun rather than about the number of kills each individual kills. Keep in mind, jail is not on a stat system, so if you're a CT don't do whatever you can to get a better Kill-to-Death ratio, just play the round, control the T's, and kill them if you have to, not because you tricked them into doing something wrong.

I don't mean to be throwing my opinion in too much, but I think CT's could also do a much better job of listening to the warden. He is not only in charge of the T's but the CT's. If he/she gives the T's an order and the CT's don't listen, a lot of freekilling can occur. Just be mindful of what you're doing as a CT.

That is all.

Playing the devil's advocate a bit, but some ct players (myself not included) think that not doing this will not decrease the t numbers fast enough, which will lead to constant rebellions and super-fast rounds that are not fun for the cts. These players think that less tricks and false orders give an unfair advantage to the ts.

Overall, I agree that there should be more creative ways of wardening than mere trickery. I DEFINATELY agree that the CTs should pay attention more to the warden.

Fun for the CT's? psh. You get to murder us poor T's for fun.

But agreed, this needs to be put into action.

Great post! The technical things and bounties kind of relate to trivia, where the terrorist winner would get to pick another terrorist player to be killed without having a chance; this is why it was outlawed.

Thank you bear, I think you have saved my life.

Good post. I also want to say a few things as I am fairly new to the whole jail atmosphere. First, I immediately noticed hostility towards players who mistakenly "freekill". Now, I have been guilty of free-killing but 99% of the time it is a mistake. I can understand scolding someone who makes a habit of freekilling, but jumping down the throat of someone who mistakenly shoots a T just makes playing irritating and un-enjoyably. I also see players "labeling" players as "FKers" or saying "He FKs, we don't like him". Most of the new Jail goers probably don't know how we play jailbreak so how is yelling at someone new and labeling them creating a friendly and enjoyable server?

Just something to think about.

CT's you should not be telling the T's to 'go' or anything such as that over the mic, if its not built into the map, you must type when to 'go' not over the mic.

Second, using goat, goes, good, etc to trick the Ts isn't allowed as that can be considered a typo and your fault not theirs. Saying 'when I type go and only go' but typing like 'start' or 'begin', or random words that cannot be considered typos is allowed as its completely different.

I don't know how some of you have forgotten these because they've been in the rules for three plus years now and haven't changed. Its encouraged to keep it fair (as mic lag > text lag) and keep those who pay attention without severely tricking them (start instead of go when it's on go).

Next, don't rely on maps for ideas, be creative, do things and move them around. Do 'Simon Says' outside or any of those games somewhere else, give them a chance to escape and rebel, having them sit in the cell block and do those games isn't as fun as doing them in like pool or outside or anywhere else.

Also, if you're not going to do 'Simon Says' , 'Temptation' , or whatever else, just don't play it, don't go 'We are playing Simon Says, I am Simon, Simon says Simon Says is over' just to have it blocked, its just not needed to do that when if you die the next warden can't do something quick like that to finish up the round because you decided to basically grief and prevent them from doing so.

Lastly, T's don't complain about doing the same things, this is Jail, you are meant to rebel and escape, THAT IS THE OBJECTIVE. Mini games on Jail maps were added to get you to move and now because creativity is lacking as well as your will to rebel and kill the CTs as what the game type is supposed to be like.

Good post bear. Hopefully this will put a halt to these cheap tactics.
