Why does the HM server not do auto-kicks or bans?
Is this a difficult thing to implement? I've been on other servers where if someone dies in the uncap, the killer is suicided. It would be hard on HM because returning fire is authorized, but it typically settles down the folks who think they're on a hard core server right away.
Leaving that aside for now, though, what I see as recurring issues in this thread are that
1. Sometimes the server is pretty hectic and the guys running around breaking rules are causing disruption. NO ONE LIKES THIS. I joined to die capping C, or holding B, not trying to fight my way out of my own base or tell some illiterate fool to watch the language. We all agree on this. What I think is missing in the discussion is the realization that sometimes there won't be an admin, and sometimes the e and eG guys on the server are going to have to take names, warn, and keep playing until they can submit a ban request. That's the way it is guys.
2. Everyone wants it to be better. (Well, some just want to bitch about it more than my ex-wife complains about paying for her own credit card purchases, but I digress.) Compared to April and May, however, it is getting better. The good games far outnumber the bad. Bans are being implemented, and slow learners are, at last, learning. Also, admins are "dropping by" when alerted on vent or even just entering the game by chance at that point, and they settle it down pretty fast. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE HACKS AND BASERAPERS. Again, that's the way it is. But many are realizing that they can't play for more than a few minutes before getting kicked. They return and whine, and get banned for week. When they return again, they play the game properly. I very nearly stopped playing last Spring over the server, but with the exception of five minutes or so per day now, the server is fine. And just FYI, I'm there for a few hours almost every day. Simply put, you won't find a better, more consistent admin presence, better populated HM server.
3. Every member should have vent. This is an aside to the thread, but there is no way to get an admin into the game faster than ventrilo. I know, I know, it took me months to get on vent, but from the first day it has made the game better, and made it easier when I'm the only e on the server and having problems. Don't do what I did, do what I say and install ventrilo. Beemer practically sleeps on vent, and is almost always available.
4. Sometimes getting a handle on the chat thread in the game is hard. When one team is complaining, the non-admin members are the representatives of eGO in the game, and should jump in to help. But sometimes the "victims" make it hard. Jumping in without long term purpose makes it harder. Get verification (I go to my base if there's a baseraper there to force the guy to shoot at me.) Warn, get a name of the offender and description of what he's doing, specifically warn, and submit a ban request. That's all you can do.
Now put on a headset, grab a weapon, and go over that hill!
