Missing Disk Space

Alright so my hard drive where i keep steam only has 2 things on it. Steam, and Autodesk Inventor. Those together take up 88 GB but when I right click on properties, It says i have taken up over 126 GB.
Anyone know where I might have taken that extra 38 GB?

Did you toggle your view to see even hidden folders? I was missing disk space as well, but I realized I had a number of hidden folders I had to show.

Hey if you download a program called WinDirStat, itll help you find that missing space. Its a free third party program & so easy to use, so just Google it.

As others in this thread have stated, view hidden files and check if anything that's hidden is taking up the space. I also recommend running a disk cleanup on the drive.

All hidden files are shown. The only thing i can clean up is the recycling bin, which is empty.

Hey DJ Wolf, did you check to make sure that the temp folder & other folders that keep junk was clean? If you ran disk cleaner, then thatll help to organize the files more.

The only folders on that hard drive's root are Steam and Autodesk. There are no temp folders in those folders.

Did you ever use that drive for anything else, or have you only ever had steam and autodesk on there since you bought the drive?

Has you ever had anything else on that drive that you have deleted/uninstalled, or has it only ever had those two things on it?

The thing about mechanical hard drives are that they are magnetic, so when you delete or uninstall, all you are actually doing is deleting the physical address of it. It's still there, but it looks like it isn't to the file system. Defrag the thing and see if that helps.

The drive is actually part of another, Its a partition. And the Hard drive it is on was formatted about 4 weeks ago.
I actually ran a defrag on it last week

Well, if no hidden folders, it could be a pagefile (which can be turned off, but isn't a good idea) or a file which stores information when you put the computer in sleep mode (don't do that, always turn it off) and/or memory dumps from system crashes which can be deleted with ccleaner or the built-in thingy in windows.
