Tips and learning idea

I was thinking it would be great for the experienced players to start posting a tips or FAQ thread. This could become one of the advantages to joining The Raiders, or we could do it in the public forum. I also suggest starting a new dedicated thread so that we keep it to focused. There is also risk to something like this as people may start criticizing each other harshly. We have all seen this in games. For example the argument over should we get field (garden) in Donner gets ugly at times and I have seen both methods work depending on the team. Just remember that we are all part of eGO.

Some people may feel that it is giving away their secrets. It could begin with tips like: Don't step in front of a Rocket Launcher while he is aiming; Don't choose a full server neck deep in battle as your time to start learning how to use the sniper rifle when only 2 are allowed. A little bit of answering why will go a long way to getting the message across. A list like this might help the noobs (and some of us novices), and in the end it might help the experienced player as a result.

I saw the CAL sign up thread and wondered how could an assault player get a positive Kill / Death ratio. I practice and play a lot. I am 95% Assault and 5% other. I was happy to increase my Kill / Death ratio up to around .7 after learning how to strafe. Then I played against MoneyBags (e) and Lamesauce (eGO) last night who were playing with the run and gun weapons. I saw some tactics that pretty much owned me. LameSauce had me chasing him around corners till I was empty or out of breath, and Moneybags was playing cat and mouse using the pits and constant moving. Both had high Kill / Death ratios.

A few days ago one person organized an assault on the last 2 flags by getting 5 of us to attack together at the same time and we were awesome. Someone explained to me that bunny hopping around corners gives you an advantage by altering your hit box. I have been pinned down by the German side on Donner where they are providing both cover and cross fire and very hard to stop. When do you advance an MG and when do you just lock down and play defense on your final flag? Do you sprint across open space to find yourself out of breath once you get to the other side? When do you run straight vs. zigzag. People have asked where do we need an MG and others have gone on their own regardless of what the team is doing. OK enough, you get the idea.

Few things work without practice, and some things will just not work depending on the day. But I think everyone wins by bringing up the skill levels. As fellow Raiders and others in eGO have taught me, there is a lot more to this game than just run and gun.

FYI: This thread was originally in a private area dedicated to one of several member houses called The Raiders. You may see reference to The Raiders in some of the tips. Since the houses and their private threads were disbanned, my friend Quaffer suggested we move this to the public forum. Please help keep this thread toward the top by posting a new tip or idea now and then to bring it to the surface. Also please do not critisize anyone's tip, but do feel free to add your own spin on any topic.

Hehe. I've definitely have strategies for Avalanche and Strand.

Plus an exclusive knifing strategy on Avalanche for both Allies and Axis. I'll be happy to give away my dirty secrets plus rifleman strategy and tactics.

But my strategy will be only available for Raiders members.

In addition if i have time i'll probably make a strategy video if you guys are all interested.

As for Donner, I haven't built any good strategies because its such a hard, sometimes claustrophobic map, ask Fluffy or Deetz, they're always there and might provide you guys with some good tips.

Strafing is definitely important if you choose to go mobile. Another thing is the mini-map, by far the most useful tool you have. It makes you aware of where your surroundings and where teammates are dying or some other stuff. Jumping is also useful sometimes, especially against those pesky k98 users and mg's. I jump corners to surprise the player hiding there, if unaware of it, they will not react fast.

Crouching is important thats how my c96 kills people! Also blind firing, thats how the mg and snipers die for me! I have many more strategies but i cannot reveal it. But in three weeks you will be able to kill many!

My main strat is to keep moving, no matter what class, cept for sniper maybe. And playing with MEIN PANZERSHRECK supports this strategy nice for me. Espicially the run and gun c96.

i agree with Rizz, keep moving, especially keep moving forward in my case. i honestly hate people sitting in the back seat waiting for people to cross the street. thats why i always say " MOVE UP! "

as for sniping, i'm taking a different approach, rather than staying back, move foward as an offensive sniper.

Francis you never crouch wit your c96 liar lol. Yes ppl move up agree'd on. Assault Sniping is the way to go and if an mg can get up there and hold them down for a while then the team should be able to move up!

For mg's. try to learn the map a little
like find places where it's hard for snipers to get you,

or somewhere where you don't have to be looking at fifty different windows.

if your just learning these places, watch some of the top mg's and where they play, like major buzz and sniper spoon.

alsoo keeep moving
if you stay in the same spot, you will get taken out

as for punching
i may not be slayr,
but what you want to do is take the long routes
and get around behind them.

one last little tidbit of information
try to prime your nades.

hopefully that helps some people with mg and assault.

I would say the most important thing I think is knowing the map and as felon pointed out is using your mini-map.

It will help you stay with around your teammates. Whether their good or bad, but their deaths or kills will tip you off how you make your next move.

If your not confident about your own skills, you can always stick with a teammate by using your map.

As for skills, strategy counts and eye-hand coordination that will require practice. Don't just rely on the crosshairs but when you shoot try look at where the bullets fly. Practice by shooting the wall, it will give you a better idea where the shots end up... whether your crouching, running, or proned.

Also remember that snipers and mgs have the ability to shoot through certain walls. Its sometimes helpful to know the game mechanics, not everything is realistic as people wished them to be, but don't confuse this with exploitation, that is definitely a no-no.

here's a good tip for riflemen users, if you use the standard crosshair and hate the expanding and retracting crosshair just go to console and type cl_dynamiccrosshair 1 to 0. voila, ur crosshair won't ever move!

this tip has been brought to you by LameSauce, the only sauce you'll ever need.

As a raw newby I can speak to raw newbies.
When selecting my class I like to select random. This will put you into any of the classes that are open when you regenerate and let's you try everything. You can learn the strengths and weakness of each class and it keeps the frustration level down.
Learn things like:
1. Support class can drop ammo for machine gunners.
2. The BAR is very accurate when you're prone.
3. Snipers and rocketeers should switch to their secondary weapons while moving to their positions.
4. Rifles become more accurate when you go to alternate fire mode.
5. Crouching and prone reduce the kick for automatic weapons.

And the list goes on.

Don't specialize until you've tried everything.

Remember... Keep your feet dry.

Bishtips!

Observation skills:
the biggest advantage you can have is to know what is happening around you, that said... use the map and watch who kills your team mates, where and with what weapon.

Positioning:
if you have all points of entry in your screen you are in a great defensive spot, make sure you have a gun that can fire a lot of bullets or kill fast. Adding some cover thats not easy to nad and you have a camp spot that i would use :p

Grenades:
smokes are usless most of the time other then ticking off your own teams snipers and MGs (they do have a use but not going to go into it). HEs are your best friend., bounce them off stuff, cook em, return the enemies (default key is e) and remember the maps have an invisible roof ;)

Shooting:
just going to say here to know what you can shoot through. MGs can mow through walls and still do good damage to the players behind them, most other weapons can shoot through the edges and corners of walls and buildings just a little bit (gives you the little extra time to do damage)

hope this helps lol :D

Friendly Fire Off: Advantages and Disadvantages

Just some tips and observations from my view point on friendly fire being off. Please feel free to share from your view point.

Advantages:
1) More than one person can shoot at the enemy in a tight space causing quick multiple hits before they can shoot back at you.
2) Your teammate can easily provide cover fire down alleys and hallways by shooting right through you (or vice versa). When there is a heavy push from the other team, I have a better chance to sprint to the end of an alley or hallway when my teammate is shooting down the alley / hallway. My teammate does not have to worry about shooting me. When I get there, I can then surprise the enemy waiting around the corner who did not step out in front of the cover fire. If cover fire waits for the enemy to pop out, it might not be fast enough to save you.
3) Don’t assume that your teammate sees the same enemy soldier you see. They me be focused on a second enemy soldier that you don’t even see. You can save your teammate by shooting the first enemy soldier without worrying about shooting your teammate at the same time.
4) You don’t have to worry about killing your teammates during a battle.

Disadvantages:
1) This kind of play is very different than playing on a map that has friendly fire on. For some of us, it is not very easy to switch. I start off killing a few of my teammates during the road trip where we play on other servers that have friendly fire on. I then become less effective as I try to adjust my play.
2) When you come across two or more enemy you can only shoot one at a time. However they are all shooting you at the same time. One exception is that a sniper rifle can shoot through one enemy soldier to the next. He can kill two people with one shot. The machine gun may work the same way since they both shoot through walls, but since it fires so fast who cares.

remember, every corner lays with danger, always be ready. look for good places to shoot from where people normally dont shoot from. for example, on the map donner, i found out that when your on allies, and you have rocket, you can protect the tank almost better then anyone else. why? because when you are at the suze side of the allies, you can aim the rocket at the tank, and there is a little piece of a tank barricade that is exposed on the front of the german side. and because the axis players are always scared, they will be hiding behind the tank. shoot a rocket at that little piece, and you can kill multiple guys. and if that fails to kill them, you are only a second away to still stop the cap, and therefore another chance to kill them. if anyone had trouble understanding that, just ask me in game. ill be glad to show you some nice spots to shoot from :)

for those who dont know,
you can throw nades over some homes/buildings/tree/bushes.
but only some, it really helps, most of the time, the other team does not see the nade.

other things i know have already been coverd above.

Running through your teammates

Now that we have the ability to run through our own teammates we no longer have a blocking issue. However, this has brought about a new issue. When you run through someone, you slightly bump them. I have heard that it is because of the gun or it is just nudging the person. What ever the reason, when you do this, they will move very slightly.

Bumping your teammate can affect the aim of a sniper, rifle, or grenade launcher resulting in a missed shot. The guy they missed may be the guy who now has enough time to get you, your teammates, or even a flag.

Sometimes it is unavoidable, but try to avoid running through a teammate who is aiming.

Thanks to Fallopian and other fellow Raiders for pointing this out to me.

Countering Advantages of the Freeze Cam

This post is about countering the effects of the Freeze Cam. The Freeze Cam zooms in on the person who killed you so that you can see a close snapshot of where they are. Some people have complained that this gives away key position information. This post is NOT about if it is fair, but about a work around. I found a statement from Shane in another thread that I want to quote.

“I think the wise players will incorporate what they know about the freeze cam to enhance their game. I already have taken the tactic of making feints immediately after a death to mislead someone. Not always, but when I can and when it makes sense.” This was taken from http://www.edgegamers.org/forums/showpost.php?p=388540&postcount=10

I rarely use the sniper, mg, or rocket launcher. But as a a run-and-gun assault player I have had difficulty taking advantage of the Freeze Cam when someone does this. Sometimes, I even find it hard to recognize the room he is in after he moves.

For BAR users:

Go prone. Set for full Auto. Aim for their feet. Let the recoil walk the shots up to their head.

Crouch and move or crawl forward.

Don't forget you can crawl sideways to clear obstacles just a little bit.

I think the BAR is powerful enough to shoot through walls. Have not confirmed this.
