So a little background on myself. I've been FPS gaming since the early 90s. I've played every FPS you can think of and then some. I started CS back in beta 5.2 and played it for years and years and I quit somewhere around 2004.
I've owned CS:S since it came out but never really gave it a try. I decided to install it yesterday and I jumped into a server. My problem is I can't kill anyone... and no, I'm not trolling.
My FPS is 300, my rate is 45000 and my ping to the server was 30ms. What happens is I would shoot someone what looked to be 3 or 4 times but they wouldn't die and then of course I was dead. I was using the AK at close-medium range. Looking at the console, it would say that I only hit the person once if at all. I know CS:S had terrible hit detection when it launched years ago but I'm sure that has been resolved. I know with CS, you had to mess with different rate commands to get ideal hit detection. It all depended on how the server was setup, how many times per second it would listen to a client and vice versa. CS used the Quake engine but I don't know if the Source engine has a similar setting.
So basically, I know that I am better than 0-24 and that there is definitely a problem with my hit detection. Do I need to run a custom config or commands in order to get reliable hit detection? And if so, what commands do I need to modify?
Thanks for your help!
