Class limits and the average pub.

Yea, The scramble vote just never works when it matters, I've never seen a group of over 10 successfully get a scramble. My advice to pubs getting rolled is usually to get rolled some more. Also, many people never figure out that !sausage is the command. I can spam this information all I want, but people will STILL try (and convince all of their friends to try) to type !scramble. Cuz we're having a breakfast buffet up in here.

Also, I don't want to be like antagonistic, but Kiririn, I really doubt that your experience can be extrapolated to most people's on the server. You're top 10 on our servers in just a few months of playing. Most long-time players will have difficulty doing that sort of thing, let alone most pubs. I know that I, probably about the level of the poor random pub nub, am nowhere near the level of skill possessed by (as it turns out) every other person in this thread. I can't deal with 3 engis on dustbowl, or 3 heavy medic teams, or whatever unless I have the right team to back me up. And I don't really feel bad about it, that's just how it is for me. I can see where class limits would help in some such situations.

ALL of that said, dear goodness I also despise class limits. Although it can be very frustrating to play against a cheap team or play with a horribly composed team, if my team doesn't have the wherewithal to work together or choose a useful class, we were probably going to lose anyway. I think class limits limit the amount of creativity and randomness that I really like in casually playing TF2, and it would be a shame to prevent that. Ultimately, limits just aren't fun when I'm not trying to be serious. And really, since I'm no better when I'm serious, there's really just no point in not having fun.

Good god I wrote a book. Sorry. Cookies for all.

What wronskain said. If I'm gonna be on a pub server, I want to play whatever class I want. Most of the time it's 2fort that has the class stacking (snipers) but no one plays the objective so no one really cares.

John Nagy, I can understand where you are coming from PUBs can get crazy @ times with class stacking but they are PUBs after all. Heck you can have players that just sit in base & High Five each other the entire rounds; it?s the life of a PUB.
There are certainly pros and cons to this sort idea; sometimes I feel like a broken record telling my teammates that we don't need 4 spies and 3 snipers. It isn't fun and most of the time such selfish players doom the team to ignominious defeat.
I?ll give prop?s to Sanctified Aberration, he does it in a? gentle way?.

It would be so Nice if we had at least one competitive PUB/PUG server for those of us whom would like to step away from the madness of true PUBs now & then.

And LOL @ the scramble & auto-balance system, sorry but it?s generally a fail. I always enjoy being auto balanced with 30 seconds left in the game & my team winning!!

I?ve played with you some John Nagy, find myself & Sanctified Aberration in server you?ll at least get some team work then.

I can honestly say, I'd frequent this server. I'd be in love with it. UGC has a comp. server with all competitive maps, but it's never filled. No crits, fixed weapon spread, all the fun jazz. This would be sweet to jump on. But it'll never happen with Quickplay and Valve.

He!! I'd love it just for eGO if nothing else. Be nice to step away from pure PUBS & do some competitive grooming !

plz no class limits I already ragequit tf2 for months bcuz valve wuz stupid and increased respawn time if class limits will ragequit ego servers to

I felt like using some bad grammar in an attempt to demonstrate how much class limits would annoy me. For those of you who would actually like to understand what I said, the tl;dr follows.

tl;dr - Please don't limit the classes on our servers. I already ragequit the game of TF2 for several months because Valve was stupid and made us increase the repspawn time on our servers. If we start having class limits on our servers I will probably ragequit eGO servers in addition to the game (which I have since un-ragequit)

However, if we did have a competitive server or something, I wouldn't be opposed to class limits on that server. So long as our existing servers stay as they are, I will be happy. Yay!

Also, I personally try to play a class that will help the team. Sometimes I can't play anything so I ragequit to engie and turtle somewhere until I remember how u play drunk guy but I usually try to play a class that there aren't too many of.

The idea of class limits has been tossed around quite a bit. Honestly, if we implement class limits I'll lose a large amount of respect for those who got it passed. I've played a lot of tf2 and overcame some awful situations.

Saying that it is a problem is absurd. No defense is unbreakable and no offense is unstoppable.

I don't like playing without a challenge anyways.

What I love about eGO servers is that am no limited I have some freedom if I want to play Sniper I can play sniper without worrying about the class limitations. If it is possible maybe we can put a limit of 3-4 snipers on the 2fort server and that's it.

Overcoming 7 Engineers with Wranglers and PyBros at their side is a lesson in futility, not adaptability. Overcoming 5 Heavies with Medics planted firmly behind them pushing a cart is no easy task. Adapting to 3 Dead Ringers Spies is no walk in the park. Having 6 Snipers on your team is very hard to "overcome and adapt" to even if one or two have decent aim.

It's like saying "Well the lineman have gone out to lunch today, no blocking! But we do have an abundance of receivers and safetys on the field. I think we can 'overcome and adapt' to that!" Also the other team is entirely made up of linebackers and tight ends. Have fun.

I understand your point, in a way I was agreeing with you. Even if the odds seem impossible, there is always a way.

I have quit playing on more servers because of class restrictions than team stacking, class stacking, and spawn camping combined. At least those I can counter.

Real case scenario:
There have been times where I have had to wait for upwards of 10 minutes because so and so or such and such is embarrassingly incompetent and happens to be hogging the only spy slot. When he rage switches to pyro because he doesn't know how to disguise, suddenly someone who has probably been sitting at the class selection screen for the past half an hour spamming the 9 key will get the slot. But oh no! He's idle, and just has a macro that hits the 9 key while he is off eating so he can play spy when he gets back. Well darn! I really wanted to play spy, it's my favorite class(2 years ago when this happened) and I would love to be able to play it! What ever shall I do?

John, I guess we went all over the subject, we got your point.. But as we said, class limits is just a hassle for everyone, eventually.
However, I always am down for giving a chance to everything that is in the clan bounds, so I'd always like to try this idea out for 48 hours or something, just to take a look, but in my opinion there's always going to be some punk who will ruins everyone's day by taking your favourite class or just taking up a space.

As edge-gamers we strive for the best. For us and for others...

I agree with what Kirin said to the extent that I feel this game is more entertaining when there is a challenge. But, like many other people, I also play this game to laugh and have fun- it shouldn't only be about winning matches. Competitiveness is admirable, sure, but when you make winning your sole driving purpose it shows, and it can ruin the gaming experience of the people you play with. Nobody enjoys playing with a sore loser or a hothead who makes others feel inferior simply because they don't play the game the same way he does.

I'm not saying you are either of those things- frankly, I've never played with you so I can't know either way.

But to suggest that our servers are unplayable because they don't have class limits is rather unfair. Edge Gamers Organization is an inclusive clan, and that inclusiveness extends to the way we operate our servers. We can't call our servers public but then say "sorry, you can't play how you want to play." It's just not how we do things.

This is probably the best reason I've heard and I completely agree now. Class limits would drive off the more casual to normal crowd and sever population would most likely dwindle.
I really appreciate all the input on this, you guys!
