eGO Interview project [Can this be possible?]

Hi guys, I'm sort of the new guy here and I think interviewing every member here is probably going to be a good contribution to eGO, unless this has been already done. I've seen this on another forum website I go to, and I liked it. I was almost interviewed too until they decided to close it down for good due to lack of people checking it out. I've made a new thread as inspiration, but it died quickly. Now, I'm gonna try it again, except I'm going to try it on this division group, and if it turns out to be successful, then we might have interviews with more members in different divisions.

How does it work?

We start off nominating people we know here, and 4 with the most nominations gets sorted out by choosing only ONE nominee. The nominee with the most votes will be chosen for interview, and then that's where you guys ask the questions to the interviewer until deadline.

After deadline has reached, the interviewer can pick any questions for the interviewee to answer. Now the questions need to be SFW (safe for work), meaning that there shouldn't any questions that might discomfort people, especially insulting of any sort, and swearing. I don't have to tell you this since we all know the rules, but I'm putting up here anyways so you can know how important it is! :P

After the questions have been chosen, the interview will be made via Skype IM, or in a video. I don't have anything to record though, so doing it by chat is best.
An interview in a TF2 server can be done, it just can't be saved as archive for us to listen, unless there's another way. And when the interviews done, you'll get to see if your question was answered or not. It's fun! A little disappointing if your question wasn't chosen, but still fun!

You can leave any response and opinions on this as it is just something to try out, really, unless it's been done before, lol.

Interesting idea... we used to do cool interviews here called "Meet the leadership." Perhaps you could hook up with the media team for that... Dead Tom appears to be the man for that, according to the leadership roster.

I like the idea except for the nominating. You're making it a popularity contest and those who people don't know won't be able to express how amazing they are. They'll always be left in the dust to either Leadership, Admins, or more popular E's. It also seems like a fair amount of work. :P

Everything else sounds great though! I like the idea of getting to know people better with questions.

I like the idea! Although I think the process of choosing interviewees should be a bit simpler, like maybe we ask who wants to be interviewed, then put them on a list and then go down the list or something.

Remember, there is always a dropbox for this sort of thing! Try I would recommend that if you want leadership to know about it immediately :)

I mean it sounds like a good idea, you will just need to put in more idea for work!

So it's an AMA but with voices.

Ironically, AMAs are totally fine as long as they're not threads.

I think this is a great idea. I always liked the concept of the "meet the leadership" series but felt they went about it the wrong way. I think that, instead of interviewing council members who have worked their way up through the ranks, or interviewing Arty for the 4th? 5th? time, the series should concentrate on lower levels and focus on newer leaders first. Meep becomes Advisor, let's interview Meep. Heck, why not go a little lower on the food chain and interview the newest AT's and EC's.

Right, cuz nobody cares about leadership anyway. This is a pretty awesome idea though, for sure. Nominating, as people have said, might get a little messy - BUT it might be a good way to kind of force people who might be kinda on the fence to actually do the interview. If you make it a series, you might just start out with a field of standard questions and just have additional submitted questions, which could make the process go smoother and allow more people to be interviewed.

On format, videos would be super cool, but we can always do audio recording over random pics or just left as recordings. It would probably all be pretty cool

Or we could make a subforum devoted completely to AMA's (This is for you Goz <3).

Been there done that, Its like you dont even lift bro

When AMA were popular, eGO made a whole forum for it ( Lasted a week or two )

I think I asked Dead Tom about this once during an AMA in vent. His response was pretty much what luke5227 said. It is a good idea, but deciding who gets interviewed needs to be worked out. I do like the idea of interviewing the ECs and ATs (and RHs).

The nomination can sound like that, but this is mostly just saying who you would like to see in an interview. The people who agree can agree or not and prefer someone else. And those who weren't in the top 4 can still get mentioned to be interviewed, as well as the other 3 who didn't have the most votes. The ones who're less noticeable still have a good chance to make it.

I guess I can find a workaround for it, but it's gonna be a little challenging for me.

Each interview will be held and saved in one thread only. Since there's no collapse tags, it's more likely that it'll be put up on video instead so it won't clutter up into looking like a wall of text.

Hey vinyl I would love to help you out with this project man, hit me up on steam or hop on vent sometime and we can brainstorm ideas :thumbup1:

I completely forgot about ventrilo, and now it reminded me of the pamela call recorder for skype, which is great, but it requires payment. I'll meet up in ventrilo for now, but it's still a little confusing for me, lol.

Just an FYI, Ventrilo has a recording function. We use it all the time to record meetings, Karaoke Night, etc. :)

This is an interesting concept. I am with those who say that picking who to interview will be tricky. With nominations, I honestly it will be skewed toward the more well-known members.

I agree. Which is why I think a great place to start would be AT/EC ranks. By the time you make DL, everybody knows you. Heck, if you've been Advisor longer than 3 months, everybody knows you. But how many people know Raynor? Or N-Light? I'm sure folks have heard of them, but a nice "meet the new kid" would go a long ways towards making HAT Division the most welcoming, friendly, easy-going, and fashionable in eGO.
