Not all signatures need a border. Sometimes a border disrupts the work.
It all depends on what the artist thinks looks good.

What I would do and this is just me, if you can, move your character and the effects up and crop out the bottom a bit; than move your name to the bottom right corner and make it bigger. Creates a focal point and not so much empty space.

I do not think this signature needs a border at all. Its not something amazing, its simple and nice.
