Stright from Valve: Next update will change the Dead Ringer

I find it odd that people are complaining about it. It's not hard to tell when a spy is using the dead ringer. If they get one-shot on the bridge between the forts in 2fort, well...
A pyro easily finds them. I don't see that item being a problem at all, in fact I think spies are completely underpowered compared to the more offensive classes with explosives, like the soldier and the demoman. Don't get me wrong, soldier is my favorite class, but spies are one of the easiest to deal with in terms of problematic classes... This is a weird change. Guess I'll be adding spies to the easier classes to deal with soon.

DR really isn't that hard to deal with. It just needs to be approached in a diff. way than with other classes.

The nerf is understandable and makes a lot of sense, but the DR could've done without it and it would be fine.

Really I think Valve is concerned with the DR's 80% adoption rate. There are a lot of different ways to equip the different classes in TF2, and many of them boil down to personal preference/lulz. I don't think Valve wants the Spy to be a one-trick pony where it's a huge number of spies doing DR and nothing else.

Think of all the spies you see (or don't), good and bad, and ask yourself how many of them completely rely on the DR's abilities as it is right now? It needs a nerf/rebalance, because it should be more of a sidegrade and not an OMGIHAVETOHAVETHISTOSPAI!!!!

I hope other weapons that can be straight upgrades in some cases get the same treatment.

The dead ringer being balanced makes my spy play all the more interesting.

That's understandable. Now the DR has what is essentially the stock watch's weakness.

i dont really care about DR, but the axtinguisher really needs a nerf

Eh I don't see how you could nerf it. I think it's fair anyway.

and i just learned how to use the dead ringer too :(
oh well, most of these changes were definitely needed

Hey folks - new to ego, and mostly a DoD guy, but I have played a lot of TF2 again lately as well. I just started getting good with the spy, but mostly with Eternal Reward.

I also JUST got my first Dead Ringer the other day but didn't want to relearn a new playstyle....glad I didn't now, but hope it doesn't get nerfed too bad.

EDIT:
The dead ringer being balanced makes my spy play all the more interesting.

Glad to hear! Maybe I'll look into yet!

Oh well... Now I'll need to learn how to play with the new DR... Interesting? Not really... Just a new way to play...

And I'll need to start playing Soldier a little more...

Well it appears that I don't notice the DR nerf at all. Doesn't change the way I use the DR.

All this does to the DR spy is force them to dodge unconventionally and not just blindly rush forward. Sure, you won't get away from pyros as easily.. but.. if you're getting caught by a pyro, the spy's natural enemy.. I feel like it really shouldn't be expected for a spy to get away, unless they are really good and/or the pyro is rather less than average.

It pretty much got me to avoid going the same direction the pyro's going. An unusual direction to avoid being hit breaks the bad habbit one step at a time.
