What's the story behind your name?

This is actually true:

I learned algebra in 5th grade. I actually liked it, because it seemed so useful, simple, and fun at the time. I was commonly referred to as Mr. Algebra as algebra was taught to my classmates. When I started signing up for various forums, mralgebra fit all the usual requirements so I have used it ever since.

Recently, I was thinking about changing my tf2/eGO name to NutCase, cause I like the sound of it and I have an awesome sig/avatar/spray idea for it. I decided against it, but don't wonder why I am sometimes called nutcase in steam/irc/forums.

not that big of a metallica fan. but i liked the name. sounds cool. that and i get pissed off easily. haha. >_< came up with this for a name back with old dod. stuck with it ever since.

Well.... I was originally The Sandman because I've always been the sandman.

Josey Wales is from the movie 'The Outlaw Josey Wales' with Clint Eastwood. I'm a western buff and love the idea of pure isolation and freedom. It makes my eyes water just thinking about what it could have been like back then without bosses, an overbearing (imo) government, etc. Just living by the basic laws of nature (which all rules, laws and morals can be derived) and reaping what one sows. There are other westerns that display this, but I also chew and dip badly, so Josey and I are kindred spirits.

This is an awesome thread.

My name was originally MrScree. Pretty much a name I came up with when an old friend of mine made me get an AIM messenger account years ago. I like Metroid, and they go "SCREEEEEE" when the eat your face, so I put that with two letters that notify everyone I'm a guy. However, one night not so long ago, I had a buddy of mine over. We were playing games and generally just goofing off, and we started talking about Gladiators (We'd just finished up a unit on them in Latin class). We start talking about what our names would be for one, and I went the uncreative road and put an "-icus" after my name, ending up with "Johnicus". My friend then laughs and suggests we add something. Out of the blue, I just say "Explodicus!". I decided to use it in TF2.

Looking at my habit of playing soldier, I guess it fits. :D

My cousin showed me the movie "Major Payne" a long time ago before I was involved with games. When I got older and started getting into forums/multiplayer games/screen names, I thought "hey, it's not a hard name to say, spell, or remember. People will recognize where it's from and might give a few people a laugh." So yeah...I went with it.

My name varies from game to game between Major Payne and just Payne, but it was originally Major Payne as it is here.

well my name... I really dont know how i got it.... i really dont :p well first when i was going to sign up i was thinking of something with Zero... lol
and now i has this name I DONT KNOW WHY!!!

I'm old and have kids so I drink alot of beer :) - well I was in my local liquor store one day and they had this little computerized machine named Brewmaster that gave all the info on any beer known to man - so I bought it and have been using that name since :)

I'm a battlefield veteran (4# player in the world), and my former name was Rayzor (it sounded cool). But everybody called me Rayzer. So, I changed my name into Rayzer. And now, in TF2, everybody calls me Rayzor! :P

I was just thinking of something that would tell people "I'm here to pwn and to own"
and i'm like
BAM!!!
tried angel of death...not original...then
KABLAMO!

i started out playing CS 1.6 CZ and DOD classic with the name Frosted Flakes, but then i decided to make it shorter and change it to Frosty.

I don't think I need to explain... my original name was Virtual511 (my standard i-net name) but I started... well... to die a whole lot when I first started....

I kept it even though I am much better now... it is a name that is hard to forget.

Use to always use the name moosenucklefish for everything...(bio class we had to make up an animal and all that boring jazz.... boom the hairy fish :P) Then I started to play FPS more and more and wow was that name waaay to long...... Lots of random names till one day when I was over seas in Japan... Picked up bf2142 and need a name...... looking around I see a hersey bar and some weird commercial with the word HERO HERO HERO HERO over and over and over....
that commerecia still haunts me.... But got a uniqe name out of it :P

Also if you played WoW(ya had no life) I was the little hunter Mightystump(Still like that name and use it everyonce in awhile)

My name came from the name my friend and I would use while playing dod:source when he first got it, I kind of stole the name ( [U.S.P.S.] Newman) from that since he never used it, about 5 weeks ago I changed it to just Newman

Well a few years back, when myspace and scene kids were all the rage

everyone had a word after their name, and since i was into metal, which had alot of breakdowns, it seemed like a good choice.

and then when i finally got dod. i was too uncreative to make up another one, so it stuck.

Dogma

noun
1. a religious doctrine that is proclaimed as true without proof
2. a doctrine or code of beliefs accepted as authoritative; "he believed all the Marxist dogma"

I've had this name for years. I never made it official until my sophomore year in high school. My name is extremely unique and if you google it, or see it in a forum, see it in a game, or see it in a messenger program, there is over a 90% chance it's talking about me. In fact if you google the name right now, the first 7 results are me.

I don't know how I came up with the name. I just did, but I do know how the background around it started to develop. The first story that developed was with my girlfriend in high school. My sophomore year as it was, when my name first stuck. I had used several names up until then, but when the movie Dogma became one of my favorite movies, everyone naturally assumed that was why I had taken on that persona. Not the longest sticking reason, but it's usually people's first guess.

The later story I prefer. I became an incredibly competitive video game player 2 years ago when I was in San Antonio. I went to my very first video game tournament, a console fighter. Everyone still assumed that cause of the movie Dogma, I had my name. After a while I became one of the top players for that game. I developed new tactics people hadn't seen and some different combos. I broke away from the ordinary and made my style of play unpredictable. When I started to become predictable I did it on purpose. I learned how to lull my opponent into a false sense of security and when they thought they had the chance to punish my pressure strings, I'd suddenly do something different, sometimes leading to combos that won me the match. Anyway, that's when the 2nd definition of Dogma began to become associated with me on that game. I gave advice and I taught people how to play. Eventually, people stopped calling me Matt and just referred to me by gaming name. You have no idea how strange it is to have people calling you Dogma in person.

umm ya... well this is me and my brother nickname for my puppy, maddie. Which doesn't make sense because there is NO correlation between Maddie and gippy... LOL

Greetings!

Back, many moons ago, when I was still actively playing pen and paper RPGs with my real life buddies, I had created a very memorable character named Quest. He ended up being assassinated by goons who were hired by his own traveling party, but his legacy lived on in story and humor.

When I managed to get involved more and more in this 'internet' thing, I adopted the online name of Quest, as I liked the name and to pay homage to my all time favorite RPG character. Over the years, the name as stuck and I'm Quest everywhere I travel in cyberspace.

My good online friends tend to shorten it to just 'Q' and I'm used to it all will respond to it as well.
