looking for new gaming computer

Have you guys noticed that compared to 3, 5 years ago, that high-wattage PSUs that are reliable and good are actually coming down in price? Not a huge drop, but slowly dropping at least?

I have and I am very pleased! I.E. you can get a SeaSonic X750 for the price I bought my X650 at almost 5 years ago. lol

Some other great PSUs are gradually decreasing in price as well.

Also, he needs a new PC. He says he wants the best, so I threw in the i7 because that is a great processor.

And G-Skill memory is great. I have had no issues, and it's Newegg's Customers Choice for PC memory. Over 3,000 positive reviews about this memory. As mentioned by another player, there really isn't a difference between 1600 Mhz and 2400, aside from price.

Yeah, but the best processor ≠ a great processor. You aren't dumping the i7-4770k on to give him the best (as in for some strange OCD reason), it isn't even the best. It's nearly $100 more (if not) and he will have gains of around 5 FPS. The money is better spent towards a better video card.

I think you may have misunderstood -- he's talking about two specific Intel CPUs and comparing those two processors. He wasn't implying that Intel is better than AMD.

You can build the best gaming PC on the market today and spend over $10,000 USD. Don't kid me when he means pricing isnt an issue. If he will spend new car money on a computer I highly suggest you rethink your financial options unless you're a millionaire.

If he wants to blow $1,100 on a processor, then sure! Minecraft will run amazingly with an i7 Extreme. I still have my i7 Extreme sitting new in box. I might build a portable gaming PC with it somtime.....

Not only that, but most of them don't support Ivy Bridge-E until a BIOS update. But if you want the best, you're going to figure all that out.

Those are some pretty good parts! Now, I'm not a fan of NVidia graphics cards only because the one EVGA card I had got coil whine a week out of the box. It was annoying as heck. I switched to a Gigabyte Radeon HD card and it's working fine. Been going with no issues for many years (It's a 2900 XT. The thing has been out since Half Life 2 was announced lol).

I currently pack a 7870 GHz OC Edition and it's just dandy. When gaming, my GPU never goes past 30 degrees Celsius. But that's because I have a case full of fans too, and it sits next to my open window when it's 30 degrees Fahrenheit out!

This right here makes zero sense. Nvidia isnt responsible for EVGA's mistake.

Buy a different brand of card from them. Asus and MSI offers some great solutions from them. Nvidia is fantastic but I think AMD will be right up there in the next couple months when they release their new physx style engine usable by all graphic cards(or so told.). AMD seems to just be getting better and better...

Fix noise problems on the R9 290X? Just slap a water cooler on that and you wont have nearly as much. lol
