Shutterbugs flutter here!

Thanks, Moose!
Here's some more, from Labor day. There is an old amusement park (Lakeside) here in Denver that is ancient, and sort of falling apart, but it's still open. It isn't exactly a nice amusement park, but it is interesting in a bizarre way, like the skeleton of an amusement park that they are still trying to revive. The rides are old and a little frightening, and everywhere you go old rides have their inner workings exposed and the paint is faded and old.
We took the kids for a treat on Labor day, and I didn't take all the photos I should have, like one of a fountain that had obviously once been beautiful with hoses, like intestines, spilling into the surrounding grass through it's broken base. I could do a photo essay on the place, but I spent the time playing with the kids instead.
Here's a few I did take:
milotrain.jpg

My son in a scaled down version of the california zypher train. He loves trains, and was so excited to take a ride in this one!
mkride.jpg

My kids in a whirly bug ride. Katie (my 4 year old daughter) loved it, Milo (2 year old son) was a little worried!
mkspaceride.jpg

I loved this ride. It was clearly from the 1950's, with a weird Buck Rodger's feel. The little guns on the space ships was a strange touch, like the amusement park was going to train the next generation to fight communists in space. It had a very 1950's feel to it.

Finally, here's a picture of a decaying ferris wheel. It was sitting, with a tree growing into it, like they had begun disassembling it forty years earlier and just forgotten to finish. The sign on it said "starride." I love this photo!

If your son loves trains and you find yourself in or near Santa Cruz, you need to find the Roaring Camp Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum. All true-to-life steam engines, tons of different types of rides, all sorts of fun...by golly, I just forgot I have all sorts of pictures from my trip there with the Ladymoose! Lemme find 'em and I'll post some, brb! :)

Ah HA, here they are!

First up, this is Engine 1.

This is what the entire, hour-long ride is like: right in the midst of the towering Redwoods.

Told ya, ACTUAL steam engine!

And my personal favorite, the "control room". They let me climb up in to take a picture! :D Was SOO stoked about that!

And these...well...these are just to show off, to be honest. :D

By the way, Turtle...the one of your son and the last one of the Wheel are awesome pictures!

Edit: Aw man...I just realized all my old photos aren't up anymore since I rearranged my photobucket...I'll find the choicest ones and repost them.

Bah I need to get a better camera, I absolutely love taking pictures. I live in Phoenix and we have the best sunrises and sunsets in the country!

Remember: we don't care about any amount of talent (or lack thereof). If you enjoy taking photos, share them! Whether you think they're good or not! If you like it, share it!

I showed those pics to my son, and he wants to go there! I'm hoping to take him on the narrow gauge railroad from Durango to Silverton here in Colorado next summer. I'll post pics when I do!
Now I need to go take more photos!

Before I start, check out my dad's stuff, he's pretty good. Though he's pretty much given up on it. I personnally recommend the time machine album, shows my family's growth on every easter since 1987 (I was born in 1990, so I'm not in the first few) www.pbase.com/mlandry

For reference, all the pictures I'm about to post are from the colorado springs balloon classic.

Balloonclassic.org

This post is going to be updated pretty regularly over the next day or so, so check back in every once in a while.

start with this one, this year's pathfinder balloon, it's the first balloon they launch just to make sure winds are favorable, this year, mayflower moving and storage had the honors.

This requires a bit of an explaination, because of the close proximity of the lake, when winds blow pilots in that direction, the do what's called a spalsh and dash, tip the water and take off again. Doesn't always work so well, in fact, I've seen many come close to sinking.

Now, as I was running about the park tryingto find a good photo spot, I happen upon this:

Don't you wish your family was this cool?

Now to rapid fire some more balloon pictures that I found

I call it: Balloon-zilla!

Now when this guy was coming over, he couldn't have been more than 5-10 ft above our heads, we could feel the heat from his burner

[more coming once I edit them]

Let me help you keep the thread alive. :)

I've gotten to enjoy taking "decent" looking pictures. Read a bunch, and try my best to make good shots.

I went to Jordan this summer - here's some interesting material. Images have been resized from the originals for your viewing pleasure, and my server's sanity. My only regret with my pictures - is that I didn't use the Nikon D40X to take them. Pics were shot with a Nikon Coolpix 8500

To me, these pictures ( well, except the last two of the mausoleum ) looked pretty good. If you're experienced at photography, and notice mistakes I've made, I'd really like your constructive criticism. :) I want to improve.

Close up of a cool carving I found near the Roman bath @ Umm Qays , Jordan

The sunset BEHIND the Roman bath @ Umm Qays , Jordan. See that water in the distance, Sea of Gallilee / Tiberius. The Roman city at Umm Qays was huge - it stretched from this point, all the way down to Tiberius.

Roman Market at Umm Qays, Jordan. It's an oldsk00l mall.

Main causeway of the Roman city at Umm Qays, Jordan. Stretches from the city center, down to Tiberius. It's a few kilometers in length.

WOOT! It's the Mausoleum under the cathedral! Wonder what's inside.

BWAHAHAHAH! Disturbing the dead. ;) ( This area was unearthed recently. There ARE bodies in there, according to the Jordan Desert Patrol guy that my Uncle was talking with. ) Those two boxes you see - stone coffins. According to the info plaque for the cathedral - the local saint was supposed to be buried here.

This whole place is really beautiful - but the visitors are disrespectful to the site. I saw a ton of trash and food wrappers all over the place. :(

You might know, Petra in Jordan is one of the "New 7 wonders of the world". Unfortunately, its former charm is dead now- it's become a tourist attraction. If you EVER happen to come around the Jordan / Israel area - and want to see an interesting archaeological site - Umm Qays is amazing - it's huge, and it's not as popular/busy as Petra.

Huge Roman city, with excavation going on - many of the excavation sites are OPEN to visit and view. You can go so far as to get up close to ancient mosaics (!), and even touch them (CAREFULLY! The ancient cement is now ... mostly dust ... thanks to earthquakes) if you like. There are few places where you can get this close to ancient artifacts. If you like this kind of stuff - this city ... is awesome.

( And mind you, there are small artifacts you could pick up in your hand. Resist. Antiquities will be on you in the airport - you'll get in trouble. Seriously - don't do it. )

LOL at the family on the bike, J Landry! The teenage girl is probably thinking "I hate this, I hope my friends don't see me!"
Nice pictures, everyone!
