Why no map changes?

Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this subject. Although I have lately been wondering why the eGO servers don't have the occasional map switch. And this isn't meant to be me saying something against the eGO servers. I love them. I'm just wondering as the longer standing members speak of old maps why they don't still exist.
Now I assume that you may have had more servers. And maybe you're funding went low or something, although that really doesnt matter. But now, I see no real reason to not have maybe a weekly map switch with a tight rotation. I like the classic 2fort, dustbowl, and turbine of course. Although I personally feel they do wear thin at times. They of course are not the perfect maps. And the only disadvantage from my point of view to a map change is you can't call the servers 24/7 turbine, dustbowl, etc.
And chances are I am of course missing something huge and you guys have your reasons for this. I just want clarification. Thanks for the help in advance!

24/7 Servers have a distinct advantage of grabbing stable players who come back to the server regularly. We have tried rotation servers before, and they generally do not do as well. One of the most necessary parts of running popular servers is knowing what players want. What players seem to really enjoy is their favorite map. Not everyone is only going to play one map, but they tend to have a few that they prefer.

This, coupled with the way that players are brought into community servers in general, makes it difficult to keep a rotation server going. TF2 players want the information of what they are getting into right in front of them, and they want instant gratification. (even then I've seen some come in and wonder when the map is going to change. It's a 24/7 server dude.).

We would love to have the ability to have more servers with different variations. However, it's just not possible right now. At certain points we did have a lot of servers. Right now though, we want to get the three that we have rocking and rolling, and once that happens, we will look into getting more.

Thanks for the post Krupa, I am always happy to see our members bring up topics like this.

Thanks for the clarification. I assumed it was something along these lines I was just wondering if their was something I missed

Also, to add on to what 36 said, the reason we had to discontinue the other servers wasn't due to funding (at least I don't think so). I believe it was the combination of our servers being DDoS'd which resulted in new IPs that didn't transfer over in people's favorites lists and valve implementing more and more features to give people more incentive to play on their servers rather than community ones.

We couldnt keep the servers filled and resources needed to be put to better use at the time. The DDoSs didnt have anything to do with it. It became difficult justifying having soo many servers... 7 i think at one point. New games kept coming out and people naturally went to those. It was tough. Division began to shrank ppl acted up and were banned and or left. Looks like its begining to pick up again though, not sure if its because of the up coming competitve update or just the hats, the game refuses to die lol.... And i find myself coming back when i get the chance still, mostly for BlackMesa sunday though.

Ah yes the infamous ip change lol i remeber that. Also valve making that silly multiplayer button to auto matchmake kinda didnt help. People automatically get routed to valve servers instead of community servers. Im glad all i ever had to focus on was on events.

I just want us to get DB taken care of so we can return best map (2Fort) to its full glory as it used to be :(

Yeah my first year in eGO (2009), we had a good 6/7 servers all within rank 150. We had a lot of admins at the time and it was hard to get in some of the events sometimes. TF2 back then wasn't about hats (although it was starting to be about them with spy vs sniper update) or cosmetics but actually about a well balanced class based shooter for the most part. Communities thrived with no quick play or what have you and competitive play was starting to get interesting with new weapons being introduced. I still do enjoy the game a lot, but I liked it a lot better when there were no hats and market to bloat it.

yeah you clearly wasn't here to see it or to help with it, youngins and respect....

Dont worry Ledzo we've all left and comeback right :p

back in my day the server ranks were in the 4Ks-5Ks soooo yea i cant picture us being 9 lol would've liked to have been around for that. Id prob find a quick game at 3am which is like the only hours I can game now. For an unhelpful youngin, I kinda miss my EC Advisor gig but life goes on, adulting is hard and no fun.

Ip changes made me lose several I played on regularly. I left due to finding other games to play with my friends. Might drop in again here and see how everyone is doing .

Once upon a time it was quite thriving. 2Fort, Dustbowl (filled up fast) Black Mesa, a few others... only server that ever took some effort to fill was Payload, which could happen quickly with a little push from some members. It was a good time. It's unfortunate that some updates have kind of hurt communities for this.

Im Maserati i brag. Nice to meet you. Sm_nextsubjectlevel
