Counter-Strike: Global Offensive The Forum As a Platform For Conversation

Hello All,
I'd like to hear your opinions on what this specific forum means to you and how you think it should be utilized. It seems from my perspective, threads that include suggestions for our servers are now relegated to the dropbox (a private section, moderated by one person). As a community, what do you guys make of this lack of audience or group discussion concerning threads of this nature? Do you think it it's beneficial or necessary to separate admin announcements, donation threads, joke threads, from suggestion threads?

I think we should consider, why is the forum so moderated. How did this come into play? Questions we should ask ourselves, do we want a community where discussion may be closed or prevented entirely depending on the circumstance.

Would like to know how you feel about it.

I think that this thread isn't really neccessary. This is more of a platform for something that can't be solved in public. I think you're misunderstanding the dropbox.

The reason suggestions, complaints, ideas, etc are directed to the Dropbox is because it's a direct line to leadership who have the final say in all things eGO. This leaves little room for confusion or "he said, she said" issues. Of course, they always take the community's opinion into consideration - but at the end of the day, we must recognize our leaders and assist them in any way possible.

Remember, we want to be better then the best community on the Internet.

I agree with Mew, crucial ideas that are important for the WHOLE CS division should be discussed in public and not to one certain group of people. We, the community, should be able to make decisions as a whole and choose what's best for us.

The dropbox is view and handled by all Leadership in eGO. If one person has been handling your dropboxes, it's because they could handle it the best or because they happen to see your dropbox first. The dropbox is to be used to talk to leadership for suggestions/concerns (CS included (I am a CS Leadership member)) immediately, whereas the public forum is to talk to everyone at large about something. Some things the forums could be used for are: events, give aways, friendly chit-chat, videos you want to share, basically something you think could contribute to everyone having a good time.

As a community, what do you guys make of this lack of audience or group discussion concerning threads of this nature?

There are threads, I'm sure there will be in the future, for group discussions about topics. The discussions are not closed on any level, they can be discussed with leadership directly (Dropbox) or with others in our TeamSpeak. We don't encourage the creation of threads that call-out, disrespect, or humiliate other people. This would not create a family-like atmosphere eGO has fostered over the 10 years it has been a thing. Leadership (Hi, I'm leadership) is always willing to have an open dialogue with you in the dropbox or in TeamSpeak. Ric always says it best, we want to be better then the best. Your opinions are always heard and accounted for!

As a side note, we have member meetings every season change, here is an example of one PUT THE EXAMPLE HERE MEDVIAH. We plan on having the next one at the end of april.

The fact is, is that the decisions we make are more or less decided by you guys. The dropbox is the best way to get your ideas across. We bring it into leadership private, discuss what effects these ideas will have on our servers, and come to a verdict. None of your ideas, suggestions, recommendations are ignored. And everyone in leadership works our butts off to ensure people continue having a great time in the server.

Everything we do is for each person within this community, and the pubs in our servers and forums.

Sometimes decisions have to be made that not everybody likes, but this is an evolving community, and in order to stay on top we always will be.

Our jobs, whether it's as an Advisor, DL, or CM is to make decisions with your best interests in mind and if anyone has an issue with decisions that are made MAKE A DROPBOX. We will listen and discuss what you guys have to say, and always will.

We are here for you guys, and selflessly volunteer our time not for us, but for all of you.

Follow the eGO conduct, respect each other, and there should be no issues. The same goes for these forums. Everything on here has a purpose, and when threads get out of hand, we have to step in and close or remove threads and posts to ensure things don't get out of hand and begin to cause issues in server, Teamspeak, etc.

This. Often ideas are suggested in a public forum that are not possible for eGO to run or attempt, given it be support, time, or resources. By bringing these ideas to the people who can help make it happen first, you will get much better success when the idea is presented to the community.

Many dropbox threads are concerns as well, some of which people do not want to be made public.

eGO is very open, there is very little to nothing that is not brought up via Teamspeak or discussed with players before changes are made. Not everyone can be pleased but the leadership here do their best to help everyone they can out.

I think it is important to separate and properly categorize discussions. If everything was just throwing in "willy nilly", then it would become a mess and much more difficult to follow through on discussion. However, if they are coordinated to the proper area within the forums, then it's easier for who it is/who it should be designated towards to see.

In any organization, eGO included, ideas that directly impact the organization are made by the higher ups. There is general input involved in some way, after deliberation, but in the end, the people who are appointed to make decisions, make the decisions. Including the general public, us, would come in forms that are properly formatted and directed towards us.

Threads that involve suggestions just end up people stating their ideas and others praising or criticizing them, with nothing really getting done (case in point: bringing back a rotation server or Highschool to the Source servers). Allowing a select few, leadership, to handle these suggestions ensures that decisions are made that benefit the organization the best.

I've always been in the minority opinion that debating the pros and cons of a potential change is something getting done as it helps filter out potential problems with a suggested change. Of course there are people who can't take criticism, and people like me who swing for the fences when arguing a topic that can change the status of a server.

I will very rarely suggest something be directed to the dropbox as the first responder to a thread unless theres nothing to discuss, or its about something that can get out of hand quickly.
