Noooooo I'm sorry to hear 'bout your pal, but nice story!

Many years ago, in a land far away but not too far, lived a young girl. This girl loved doing everything her older brother did. Her brother started playing video games, she began playing video games. Her brother moved from the N64 to the computer, she moved from the N64 to the computer. Her brother talked with friends at school about video games, she, well she stood in the group and listened. A game called "America's Army" came out and the siblings played. Not together as the dial-up internet couldn't handle that, but the brother played and the sister watched. Then when the brother was at work the sister began to play the game, slowly she played and eventually got better. Her name reflected the age at which she began, but it was hers. Then one day her brother and his friends jokingly came up with a clan name. This was new to the girl. She had seen such things online, but had never thought that she might get to be a part of one. The clan name was silly, but it was her clan. She wore it proudly and began to make it hers.

Time past.

The young girl was now a young woman, her brother a man. Video games were still played, but now both siblings had separate computers and they could play together. Christmas came. The girl, still a girl at heart, was excited. Christmas was a time of gifts, but more importantly family. Sitting around opening gifts, now more practical items than in the past. The last gift was an odd one; in the past last gifts were a final fun surprise a whimsical trinket in the midst or practical things. This gift was not that, it was towels. Brand new bath towels. These were greatly appreciated, but not a last gift. Then the girl was grateful, but confused. Then out of respect she hugged the towels and went to say thank you. But as she hugged the towels, she noticed the towels had a lump, a hard rectangle of a lump.... The girl quickly unwrapped the towels; there was a box a bright orange box with two faces and an outline of a person. Girlish squeals rang through the house. The wrapping paper was cleared away and Portal was installed. The other games were nice, but Portal was what had caused those squeals

The next day her brother suggested they try one of the other games, TeamFortress 2; as it was one they both might like and could play. The girl agreed and they began playing like they had years before, only this time the girl played and the brother watched. Then memories were stirred, they could trade as they had before, but the name used on Steam was the girl's name and it was still, as always, girly. Stillness settled as both siblings began to think... Then the girl had it; the clan tag. They had both played under it; it was not his or hers it was theirs. Quickly it was typed and the play continued.

Time past.

The game was played often and the siblings took turns. They found a map and server they liked and stayed, and the name became a part of both of them. As voice chat happened the name became a joke and the fellow players knew that the siblings played as one, switching and taking turns. After several months past, the brother purchased the game as well and the siblings began playing together again.

Time past.

Other games came and were played for weeks or months at a time. TF2 was only pulled out as a lark. But the girl, now an adult, held the memory of playing TF2 on a little laptop, switching seats with her brother and watching the other play.

And with these memories she kept but one visible token, a name, an old clan tag. -=DUH=-

This is adorable and made me smile

Welllllll I've posted this before, but in case you aren't sick of it. When I was little and got my steam account to play DoD:S I needed a name. And I was kind of obsessed with gerbils, so cutegerbil was born at age 8. And then for eGO I shortened it to Gerbil once I joined. Somehow I have many nicknames (and also not good with coming up with new names)

I love gerbils too! :D

Which one?

For those that knew me before I was Ace it was quite simple, my name and a number(Those times are gone and I'm looking at you person who won't be named,
but named after a nice car company
). Now, for my current one...

I got it from two places, family and gaming friends from a time long gone. So I was playing Planetside 2 back in 2013ish with a couple of friends and I went on this massive, I mean massive kill streak at a bio lab. I wiped out an entire 12 man squad as the Heavy Assault and in the chat box I saw someone type. "Dam [Old name] nice Ace on our squad". I liked how that sounded so I got the nickname Ace from that. Now from the family aspect they've called me a lot of things, including Ace, so it stuck as well. Kinda boring but that's how it works.

I spelled trippy then my spellcheck corrected to trippey and I've never fixed it since.

I'm better than Deluxe. I'm DeeLuxxed.

I don't actually remember how I came up with this. I used it when I was like 14 or something for a game called Combat Arms and then when I changed my name in eGO from my real name I changed it to this. I use it for literally everything and I don't know why.

Holy Cow Combat Arms I remember that game.

Maybe we ran into eachother...I don't even remember what I would have been called then

Mine's pretty lame. Halo was the first online shooter game I ever played on PC around 13 years old. I loved racing around in the Hogs, and I was also a competitive junior cyclist at the time. I liked Halo. I liked racing in Halo and on bicycles... thus HaloRacer was born.

My first handle was TheL3gend (pretty bad I know... it's still my Steam account name!). I held onto that through my Battlefield 2 days until I did the HaloRacer thing.

Truth be told I'm just not very creative with that sort of thing and just don't care that much.

I love it! Warthogs are the greatest thing in Halo aswell. BTW I sorry I dominated you, to be fair our team did have 3 medics. xD

I have been using the name freshmeat going back to the original Quake multiplayer in like '97. When I joined steam, freshmeat was taken, so I added 'head' to it - a portmanteau of freshmeat, as in I got killed a lot, and meathead, as in Rob Reiner's character Michael Stivic from All in The Family.

I miss Sadevare.

A long time ago, I used a program called Pimp My Gun. It was a flash game that allowed you to make cool guns. On Flickr there was a fairly large international community surrounding this program, which I joined. Pretty much everyone made up their own gun companies to slap their logo on their guns, and I made Phoenix International. We took that program far, far beyond what the creator originally intended. The program had preset gun parts, but it also had squares, rectangles, circles, and triangles that you could color, rotate, resize, and place at will. A lot of amazing things came out of that group, like this and this and this and friggin this and that one guy who made a motherfriggin' PLANE.

I still post stuff occasionally.

Fast forward a few years, I went by Honorbound here in eGO. When I joined the first thing I thought of was the Half-Zatoichi and its honorbound mechanic. That wasn't cool enough for me, so I shortened Phoenix International to Nix. Nix is also one of Pluto's moons, and I'm into astronomy, so that's cool. That moon is named after the Spanish spelling of Nyx, the Greek goddess of night, and I like Midnight Blue, so that's cool.
