There is an issue with the server that has been going on for some time now. Can someone look into it please? There is a lag like feel for most players it gets really bad on occasion and not really having any answer for the regular non-member players that visit there is quite frustrating.

I was on this morning with you. I left after struggling through one round.

We are aware of the lag, but don't know what is causing it on just the one server. We have been restarting it, but it seems to only help for a short period. We are looking into it.

Much appreciated and if it is of any help it seems to happen most on Hainan Resort and Paracel Storm.

Let me look on how many times players vote for those 2 maps, and perhaps we could take those 2 off and add 2 others.

The service provider probably has this particular BF4 Server Virtual Machine (Pop Maps) on a highly loaded host machine, and causing lag issues. I'm very familiar with this type of issue within at my place of work when we load up our VMWare hosts with too many VMs.

I agree with Binary, this is the most likely culprit. I trust that Alex is gonna get it sorted out soon enough!

Within a properly setup ESXi environment, the overloaded blades are supposed to span dynamically to another blade with less resources in use. Its a good idea to note the times and dates the lagging is unbearable, present that to the hosting provider, so they can check for potential bad clusters in the history. vSphere has extensive logging that will show what was in use, warnings about hitting retention, and any bad vMotions (if any) that are presently executed.

edit: corrected spelling.

LOL, love it Tuna! Not too many people can get into an in depth discussion about vSphere here. A lot of companies don't bother licensing some of the more advanced features like vMotion, fault tolerance, or the clustering (many need to actually shut off the VM before moving it) all that only comes with the enterprise versions. If its a small hosting firm, they probably have a handful of servers they manage manually and just use the basic monitoring tools and alarms for CPU overutilization.

Bottom line being you probably have to call the hosting company to have that VM (hosting pop-maps) moved to a less crowded host to control the lag issues.

Nope, and that is the thing. Usually they are resellers for soft hosting, They figure that paying ~2-3K for a blade per month, then taking that blade and slicing out 30-40 VM's on a single blade and charging $100/mo is good business, crossing their fingers that none of these VM's are doing something RAM/processor hungry as rx/tx packets to clients that vary from ping from 20ms to 400ms. It doesn't work as great as they think it does.

If it's set up properly, a lot of the background processing that is done to enforce redundancy, uptime, stabilization, and even redundancy will not be felt by those on the server.

Hello guys thanks for posting about concerns for the servers and hosting. We continue to look at any reported issues with our servers and work with our host to fix those issues. We have experienced some lag spikes lately and are determining if they are ddos attacks or simple issues with EA or NFO. As for maps we will be looking at map perfomance over the next few weeks as well. Feel free to post here any times there are lag and what maps also what you were doing or other related stuff like weather in your area so we can determine on which side someone may be having issues.

I have no problem keeping a log but I don't feel that it is a regional issue. When it happens most people in the server are complaining. Anything I can do to help though, I visit this server often enough to provide a more precise analysis than just "it's lagging". Let me know ...

We took both maps of the rotation please let us know in a few days if there is an improvement.

Thanks

Hello guys,

The leadership team is discussing testing those maps next week for problems an issues so we can discuss those with our host. We are going to put one map back into rotation for 2 days and see how well it runs and then the next into rotation the next 2 days. Those who have had problems with lag it would be great to have you guys in the conquest server so we can look at server loads and individual player issues. From now till this Sun those two maps will remain off the server. Any issues with other maps please post to this tread and we can take a look at those maps as well

7/31/2016 0700-0730 EST Siege of Shanghai. Very minor lag, I did have one other pubber complaining of lag, but none others.

Thanks guys for the input on map issues. We are still looking over them and will do more testing this week

Update: As of 3 Aug 16 we have decided to move the server from Dallas to Chicago. We have not found any major issues with the server maps that warrant taking them out of rotation. Players from different providers and locations might experience different issues with lag or connectivity issues. If you experience any issues with the maps after this move please pm Alex, Jtipton, and Me to look over the issues. Please Provide Map,Time, Date, Ping, Area Lag Was Experienced, Were Others Experiencing Lag, What You Were Doing When Lagging, and any other details. Players with different monitor speeds and connections may sometimes see the new icons on the right of their screen. those icons are for latency, packet loss, and fps which could occur at any time for a number of players. If they are yellow and go away then shouldnt be a problem if they stay red then there is an issue on the players end, players pc settings, or players connection. If anyone at any time receives the server performance icon please let us know so we can find out as that might be a server issue.
