Some admins really lost their interest?!

Hi everyone

First of all I want to say I'm not trying to be annoying, I'm just pointing something out here that has been a frustration to me for some weeks. Also I'd like to say that I'm not gonna write any names here, I'm just trying to make a general point of view as a relatively new member.

I play on the 24/7 Avalanche server most of the time on a daily basis, at least on a weekly basis in busy times. Here are some things I've noticed since I've joined EGO that are starting to frustrate me and other frequent players.

When I play on the server, I always try to get people to get along with each other, as well as following the rules. Allthough I'm not admin, I diplomatically try to encourage people to follow the rules and play like they should. Whenever someone breaks the rules (cheating, swearing, voice spamming, being afk...), I inform the admins that are present. Sometimes they react by going into spectators, checking out the situation and dealing with it, like they should. Most of the time however, they don't react at all. I have some admins in my friendslist, and they react all of the time. Even if they are not present, they join the server to deal with the matter I'm pointing out.

What's worse in my opinion, is that most admins present on the server, stay there for less than 30 minutes. Some of them just camp a single spot, not playing for the team and not being involved in the gaming process. If me or any other player present point something out to them, like a player not behaving or being afk or whatever, they don't respond and take no action what so ever.

I wonder what's the point of being admin, if you don't do anything when you're present? And IF you are present, you only stay for a short time?

What I'm trying to say is that many players I know are losing faith in admins for three reasons:
1) Most of them don't respond to any kind of complaint or frustration about a player not following the rules
2) Most of them leave very fast after joining
3) Most of them barely play on the server...

I'm trying hard every day to try and make people feel at home in our server, yet I do not get any promotion to eG. It's not even mentioned somewhere how to make promotion on this forum. When I ask an admin about it, they say "just be active", but I don't think there are many players out there as active as me! Every time I see something irregural happening, I can't do anything about it but mention it to an admin, that most of the time does nothing...

Greetings

To address the first bit...

DoD has been an active game within eGO for over 10 years now. Some of these admins were promoted a long time ago. Some of them lack training or have not kept up to date with things. Some may not even have active admin. It's very difficult to tell. There's generally a few around but we cannot police the server 24/7, and even when there are active admins sometimes a lot is going on and we cannot handle it all. You can take down evidence and submit ban requests if you are seeing issues and it can get handled.

In terms of the promotion bit... It's very hard to get "noticed" anymore and promoted because we see almost 0 DoD recruits here, and the old ways of getting noticed don't exist. It's a very stagnant process at this point mostly owing to the dying nature of DoD and the game within eGO.

Just my two cents. I totally understand your frustrations, don't get me wrong here. This is just something that tends to happen a fair bit in communities when they keep a server running but the community has mostly lost interest in the game.

Thanks for you reply, Simon!

I understand that DoD:S is a dying game. I also understand that some admins have simply lost interest in keeping things around DoD:S up-to-date. I realise now that the recruiting and promoting process is stagnant, at least for DoD:S.

Whenever I see a big violation of the rules, a cheater for instance, I do take the time to make e demo and file a ban request. I'm mostly talking about 'small' irregularities here, the ones that get people frustrated and not coming back to the server. Adressing an admin and not getting any response, seeing an admin playing the game for himself instead of for the team, seeing an admin doing nothing about an obvious violation etc.

Adressing the promotion part again, I'm convinced that there are a few active and motivated admins around. However most players on the server don't see them, because I think there are too few of them. I think that players on 24/7 Avalanche have chosen to keep playing DoD:S, even though it is a dying game, like you said yourself. However the lack of 'fresh' and motivated admins leads to the thought to most of them that the server is getting more and more free of penalties in case of disruption of any kind...

What I'm trying to say is that the 'die-hard' players that still play DoD:S, want to feel at home on the server and backed up by at least a contactable admin in case they need one!

Sincerely

Major Diddly

First, I agree with Diddly in everything he writes. I support him 100% in everything he says.

Dull admins problem: I know the same problem as Diddly describes. Around 40-50% of -(eG)- & -(eGO)- admins are not do their admin jobs, when I writing to them with my problems or when I seeing problems or rule breaks. I've started to !down admins, if they do not do their admin jobs.

A typical example is when there is a player afk. If I see a player in base there is a AFK over 5 minutes, I start writing an "admin message" to admin with @. Here its often I think that this system is down, because there often no response. After 2nd admin message and without response, I write a normal chat message with "ADMIN (Player Name) AFK".
If this does not work, I will write "ADMIN please do your job!". If there is still no response, they get a !down. and the message "#badadmins".

It's incredibly frustrating that an admin does not do their job. I do not mind naming the bad admins here, if anyone wants it!.

Promotion: It's funny there comes a green message with the text "eGO looking for new admins. Join eGO now" in game. But after joining eGO, there is no more happening. All you get is a -(e)- tag. It's actually the only thing that happens. There is no welcome message or nobuddy there grabs you and tells you how to proceed up in eGO. (Diddly, try grabbing "Willie Wonka". He is the newest DoDs admin. He must be able to tell you how he proceeded. Diddly, I looking forward to you become admin.)

And so is there the DoDs leadership. Those who should control it all. Unfortunately, they are the least active players in game.
Superglue, Division Leader: It can be counted on one hand how many times I've seen this person on the Avalanche server.
Predator Lark, Advisor: I have no idea who it is.
Ironpenguin12, Advisor: As Ironpenguin became an advisor, I finally thought that something good would come (he was an very active player), but shortly after he became an advisor, we have seen very little to him on the server.

Something wrong with Leadership.

I have regretted that I joined eGO and I can't find a way to get out again. Someone says I just can delete my (e) tag, but it is getting automatic before my name every time I join the server. Is there anyone who can tell me where the disjoin button is?

Wouldnt the right thing to do if admins lose interest in that specific mod is actively try to recruit people? If they play 30 mins or 1 hour a day, they can at least do what Motive does when he joins CS:S dust2. he would spam the chat with eGO is recruiting add me for info blah blah, you get my point rather than a server message saying eGO is recruiting and that is all? at least if they add that admin and talk to him/her they would get better info and guidance on how to move up the ranks? i think Diddly's post proves that there are still DoD recruits out there, its just that nobody gives them any attention. And you mentioned untrained admins or not even having admin powers at all, isn't the leadership and admin trainers supposed to make sure all admins are trained and up-to-date with rules and server wise information upon promotion? and if they dont show up to any of these sessions they can just simply be demoted and replace by someone who shows more promise / is willing to sit and listen and properly admin the server?

Wilano, I don't think you are too familiar with the game, by the sounds of it. Day of Defeat Source sees an average of 600 players across the game. The game has been a part of eGO for 10+ years now, a LOT has changed and happened over the years. Some of these people were promoted a long time ago and have not kept up, and there are hundreds of them - it would be a massive use of time to round up everyone and try to keep track, at this point. The game has a limited time left at this point - we're just riding out the fun while we can.

The massive majority of players on our server have been there for an eternity too, and they have already been asked over the years to join eGO, many times.

Coming from an old member who has been around DoD since the beginning of ego times I know your frustrations with the game current. I went away for a while and finally came back to get back into gaming. DOD:S changed for me so much since the days I use to play it and all my friends have gone to better things. However, I understand many admins have reached a point that they just want to play a few hours and get off. Admining is not an easy job and it is filled with stress of not being able to play while trying to help police the server. The DoD community has always prided itself on the rule of playing first admining second. I know for a fact I am guilty of joining a small amount of time and then leaving, however, I do not believe this is the best course of action to address this issue like this. Remember that this game has been around for a long time and has gone through many evolutions. Admins have come and gone and now we are left with a very small community who still try to play actively.

I would like to apologize for not being so active for the last couple of weeks but as you know I have been diagnosed with lymph node cancer and it is taking its toll, I have had one three day session with chemo and over the next few weeks I will have to have two more sessions of chemo, it is really taking it out of me. I will try and find the strength to play a bit more. Please dont give up on dods as I believe it is a good game you guys who play deserve our best attention. And superman put your fancy clothes on so I can recognise you.

LONDON BLITZ

Hey guys

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to respond to my threat.

First of all, London Blitz, allthough I do not know you, I would like to wish you the strenght to keep fighting against this unfair disease. As a (emergency) nurse I've seen what it does to people and I've lost my mother to cancer. I wish you the very best! Don't lose hope :-).

Secondly, I understand Simon when he says that eGO doesn't want to invest any more energy in a dying game. However I believe that the game will not die soon. I used to play CS:CZ, which also is a dying game, however a small community of die-hard players still plays it. I believe DoD:S is a game like that: dedicated players who want dedicated admins to help them have a great time.

I think Wilano understands my point here, mainly that I'm one of the few players still out there that actually wants to take responsibility for other players to have a good time. Since I'm (mostly) active on daily basis, why can't I have the training to become an admin? So at least the die-hard community can see that some admins are still in to it? It might be a big reason for some people to stay or go, specially in the Avalanche server! It's one of the most popular out there! Many people rely on the comfort of seeing admins around that actually do their job! I'm willing to do it, I just don't know how I can ask someone to receive the training. If it requires me to become a supporter, so be it. I just had enough of not only my own frustrations, but also those of the majority of the active, die-hard players out there on our GREAT Avalanche server!

Sincerly

Major Diddly

PS: I've been around this game for 3 years now, 3 years of which I've played actively on eGO servers. I should've joined eGO a lot earlier. I used to be a D-D member, a clan in which I received adminchip 3 months after joining. I left the clan for eGO though.

As DOD:S Division Leader, I feel I should step in here. The Avalanche server has always been very unique among our servers with the type and frequency of admin problems that occur on it. Whether that be admin or player fault was always case by case. With that being said, the DOD:S division currently has two active leadership members, myself, and Iron Penguin. I am very busy with work, and the amount of time I have to play games has gone down drastically, but I am still active on the forums multiple times a day. I have not seen a single drop box message to leadership about the conduct, lack of action, or inability to enforce the rules about a single admin since I have become DL almost half a year ago. If you notice an admin not doing their job, or not doing it properly, please post a Drop Box message here. Please put it under neighborhood watch.

In regards to admins playing the game, that is out of our control. I cannot force people play the game more or for longer sessions.

In terms of getting noticed, the best way to get noticed is to take part! Post in the drop box, make promotion recommendations, make award recommendations, and frankly, hang out in TS, which is dead now for DOD:S. For months it was just Simon, Ravage, Penguin, and myself.

In short, if I am not told about a problem, unless I see it, I cannot fix it.

I am sorry your having this issue and I hope things start to look up, I myself have not been on due to working 12 hour shifts and school but I will my self try and get on a couple times a week to see how things are going from here on out. I know there has been a lot that has changed lately and I do stop on the forums at least once a day, but if you can not find anyone to help out add me on steam when I am home my steam runs no matter what and I will do what I can to help.

I understand what you're talking about, Diddly. I had the same issue with a few admins in the past. But, contrary to your experience on this, although there are a few that really seem to just not care about the problems reported to them (and right now I can only remember 1 or 2, and they rarely play the game), I find that most admins that are active when I am playing try to do what they are supposed to do. I, when active, try to "enforce" the rules and manage afks the best way I can and always try to answer the requests from other players. Sometimes, however, I may need a few minutes to take action because there's so much going on that I just can't respond immediately. Feel free to add me to your friendslist and tell me if something wrong is going on. I will try the best I can to help. I am usually active on weekends and Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday nights. I always play for at least 1 hour when I play.
About the promotion to admin: I did exactly what you are saying you do. One day an eGO approached me about a promotion and I accepted. Being active, helpful, and friendly, trying to report problems to admins etc will definitely get you closer to a promotion. Some things just take some time to happen, I guess. I joined eGO almost 5 years ago. I have no idea about how long on average people take to be promoted. Also, I don't know if you need to be a dedicated supporter to be promoted. No admin ever told me that (and I never asked). When I became a dedicated supporter I had absolutely no idea if that would make any difference since I wasn't even imagining I would be promoted to admin back then. I did it only to help. Anyway, feel free to contact me if you have an issue. I will do my best to help.

Hint, dedicated supported has nothing to do with getting promoted. I made it to DL without it!

Thanks for you reply!

So basically you are saying that I can't get noticed anymore to become an admin on the Avalanche server? I'm sorry but isn't the main thing about getting noticed the behaviour in-game? I'm sure admins I know have noticed me already! How am I ever going to get noticed if someone that has the power of promoting people, barely plays the game? How could you possibly know if someone is capabel of doing the job, judging from posts on the forum???

I'm starting to get the feeling that you guys just don't care about DoD:S anymore. If that is the case, just be honest about it and please don't give me or any other e member false hope of getting noticed any time soon if you guys already know there is no chance (why is there still a message in-server that tells us eGO is looking for future admins????) In that case, I'm going to leave eGO and join a clan with a better perspective of putting my ambitions to work.

Sincerly

Major Diddly

I think this should go to drop box and be discussed with the leadership in a more appropriate manner..

Major Diddly, you have been in eGO a fairly short time. Even when DOD:S was a significantly busier server, getting promoted takes time. Leadership keeps an eye on the drop box for promo-recommendations. eGO also has an unofficial policy of not promoting people who only joined eGO to become an admin. We want to see a positive attitude rather than a "I want to be an admin so I can admin the server."
