Hello, as I said in the 'introduce yourself' section of the forums, my name is Garrett, but go by PickleZ (pickles, not picklezee). I recently have gotten back into CS:GO after about a 6 month break. When I played eGO's jail back in the day, I was one of the most active members, and had all the things in the shop maxed out. 6 months ago eGO's jail server was popping, with constant 15+ players online even late into the night. About three months into my leave I hopped on and the player-count was at a strong 10-15 range max. It was disappointing not only to see the decrease in player-base, but the fact no one I knew still played. Since my return, I have been playing
=(PG)='s jail server, which is getting a ton of players. This thread will be my personal opinions on why the staggering player-counts exist between the two servers.
One thing that is apparently different between the two servers, is the map selection and rotation. Personally, after going through the majority of both sets of maps, I favor the foreign and new maps, rather then the ones that have been in eGO's server for almost a year now that I new by heart. Here are a few arguments I hear all the time about adding/removing maps.
Argument: "If we add {map} it will be overplayed"
Rebuttal:Map rotation with RTV and !nominations as well as voting is the way it is because it is what the majority wants. If a map becomes overplayed for a month, then there will be a week or so where it never gets played due to the overwhelming amount of users who are bored with it. Then after a certain amount of time, it won't be as eye-popping and will become nerfe'd enough to be a normally used map.
Argument: "Adding too many maps gets annoying to nominate/ruins the flow of a rotation"
Rebuttal: Sure, adding 100+ maps will get a bit annoying to nominate, but I would rather have every map a player wants and have it take 2m for the player to nominate it, rather then them not being able to nominate it at all and just leave.
Argument: "Lots of the maps we have now won't be played as much if we switch"
Rebuttal: Like said in the first arguments, adding maps will ensure the majority of players play the map they want. If a map doesn't get played as much, and is replaced by a competitor map, then the players as a majority like the other map better and have a better chance at playing that map.
Argument: "Removing old maps will make us loose players"
Rebuttal: What players? (Sorry but past two days I have been the only one on just practicing)
Make a community suggestion thread that just let's members nominate maps that they like, or take some of the most used ones from =PG= and add it to ours.
One of the reasons I am loyal to eGO's jailbreak and not others is the set of rules they use and the unique gameplay behind the server. Instead of trying to find the niche that everyone else had, eGO choose to make their own. Changing this would be detrimental in the long-run. So instead of trying to change it, better educate everyone about the core set of rules. I would be happy to make two sets of threads. One thread the strictly tells them the core gameplay of jailbreak servers in general. And the second thread explaining to other jailbreak server players that says the differences that eGO has.
Also we should spice up the store menu. Sure prefix's are cool and all, but make every category of the shop have a 'legendary' item or items that are super expensive it is a status symbol to have it. I played for 10m after my stats got wiped and could afford the best hat.
Another suggestion that I think could be added without any negative outcomes is !ghost. Basically when you die, you are able to use !ghost to do climb, bhop, etc, without actually being able to be seen/interact with anything. The worst feeling is dying at the beginng of the round for XYZ reason, and having to wait until the last camping T is found.
Okay, so like I said, I have been playing a lot of the PG's jailbreak server trying to see what makes it so different and appealing to the amount of players they are bringing in. Want to know what I found? It was nothing. The only reason PG gets so many players at the moment is because they already have a substantial amount of players that play on the server. Currently eGO's jailbreak server has no players, and thus no one wants to play it.
I suggest during peak times, eGO admin's go onto PG's server when it is full or close to being full, and direct them to the other jailbreak server. Treat the two servers as sister servers, and not just third party relatives. I also think it would be nice to have the !servers plugin added to PG's jailbreak as well as the announcement for both TTT and jailbreak on eGO. I think this would save PG's server from ever getting so full players have no where to go, and help bring back eGO's jailbreak playerbase.
If you don't want to read the whole thing, this is the place to be, I will be summing up everything about this thread.
Maps:
Don't be afraid to mix it up, add some of the popular ones from PG to make those players feel comfortable, and keep some of the classics that satisfy the older players from eGO.
Features:
Don't change the core gameplay and the uniqueness of eGO, but see what PG is doing right, and adapt to the changing industry.
Integration:
Don't spam the PG servers, but make it easy for those players to get to other eGO & PG server (such as jailbreak). Often times the PG jailbreak server gets full, and players wait for someone to leave rather then filling up a whole other jailbreak server.
But that's just my 2 cents,
PickleZ
