Hey everyone,

I cross posted this to the eG forums as well for admins, but figured I should let all players know;

I'm excited to announce we now have an AFK manager on our Avalanche server. This will greatly reduce time spent admining and give us a lot more playing time - we no longer have to check for AFKs, kick people for it after a few minutes, all that.

We are currently set up that it will move players to spectate after 2 minutes of being AFK. Once the server reaches over 28 players, it will kick them after 5 minutes (total, between AFK ingame and then 3 minutes in spec). Administrators can be moved to spec, but won't be kicked. This is good for if you need to quickly check the forums or fill out MAUL notes, etc.

Admins, please pass on to other admins you see ingame that they no longer need to worry about handling AFK players :)

For our non-eGO members, you will be able to spectate and do demos still as well, without being kicked - the plugin does register you switching between player views. It also sends a warning to you, so you can make sure you aren't kicked.

I know this is a long requested feature and I'm really happy we have this now. Thanks to Drewerth for the quick implementation and testing of it.

Please report any bugs to us as necessary!

Happy gaming!

Hey oden, it will move to spec after 2 minutes and then kick after 5 (but only if the server has more than 28 players). We will test these numbers out an alter them if need be :)

But it dont work. kicks players when only 22 players in server, and puts admins in spec when they stop to do some thing. Sorry but for a game that is dying this will kill it quicker. That my opinion and I have just played for over an hour and that is how I feel.

I'm sorry it isn't working out well for you London. I cannot see where it has kicked the players, it stopped kicking when the threshold dropped below 28. Everyone is put in spec after 2 minutes. Admins wont be kicked though. We can modify the number to something a bit higher if enough people are bothered by it. I don't think this is going to kill anything - this will make it so people can't hog specialty classes when no admins are on and they go AFK. Admins can play the game without having to spend tons of time admining AFKs. It is very simple and will not empty the server. I'm open to feedback on all of this but, every other player who has seen the AFK plugin so far has been very happy with it and said we took too long to bring it in.

I'm open to changing numbers and working with everyone to find a happy median, but we don't want this plugin to go away. It's been asked for just too many times and for a very long time.

Well what you do is ok with me but it cant work. we have players seeding the server , sometimes 3-4 players who seed for a long time, this wont happen any more as they will be kicked and we all agree players dont like going into the game when it is half empty. I was put into spec whilst typing and that is not on for any admin, we all have to stop sometimes to type pm's etc, etc, we will all end up in spec. As I have said this will kill the game quicker. I have played this game every day for 18 years (apart from 8 weeks in hospital) and the players who have complained will find some thing else to complain about. But go for it, I will keep playing Regardless.

If the server has under 6 players then the AFK manager will do nothing at all. I can increase this if people seeding and starting the server are having issues. Thank you for the feedback London. I will monitor this change closely and try to adapt it properly to please our players as best as I can.

I have just played for one and a half hours and it working beautifully. Big !UP to eGO for that improvement!!!

It shouldn't take someone 2 minutes to open console (`) and type "cl_disablehtmlmotd 1".

But I would recommend never typing it at all and placing the command in your autoexe.cfg file which runs upon joining a server.
In your steam directory, find Steam\steamapps\common\Day of Defeat Source\dod\cfg\autoexe.cfg

Open it with notepad or a word editor of your choice and add the line,
cl_disablehtmlmotd 1

Make sure it is on its own line (press enter to make a new line).
Then save it. It should STILL be a .cfg file.

Now when you join a server, html will be disabled.

------------------------------
Anyways this is a great addition, I will look into watching how players leave and join the server based on kicks and stuff.
Originally, I hoped the threshold for kicking would be higher than 28, but will see how it goes.

Simon to the rescue!

lol no even tho im a one finger typer it dosnt take that long to type it ,thats why i let the guys know it was the first day of the plugin ,but thanks for imfo on changing files cheers

Yea this AFK manager is working awesome! Normally we'd have afks and they would be invisible to the other team causing hidden dead-weight. But when a player gets moved to spectate for afking, you can see the objective team size and know when a team is unbalanced. Very fluid and efficient server.

We've entered a new era on Avalanche.

Oh well that's good

I must agree with London certain times ive been on waiting only to be kicked from server, but hopefully with fine tuning no problems....

I haven't been around for some time so today was the first day I could actually see this plug-in working and to me it worked really well :D players who went afk were quickly removed to spec and the classes they were occupying opened up for those who are actually gonna play :) I sometimes play when there's no admin around due to my time zone difference and it really relieves me to have this function. my sincere thanks to those who worked hard for this :D
