Are you a good sniper?

hah well ive been playing these servers for pretty long now (I also played them before I was accepted into eGO), and I would have to say that definately dryft and that guy are the best snipers I have played against. And I love to get into duels, especially with Dryft ;)

I'm pretty good with it, but the problem is that sniping in DoD and sniping in TF2 are so different as far as mechanics that I cant do it much. Basically if I snipe in dod for a bit, and then go to TF2 and try to snipe, I just cant do it. So basically I spend all my time warming up between games. xD

The answer to me is quite obvious... Thatguy ahead of Fuse. I feel pretty good about myself to be mentioned as a good sniper from thatguy because in my opinion he does exactly was a sniper should. Let me explain what I feel a good sniper should do, and you'll see why it can be kinda hard and annoying sometimes

1. Be able to get the headshot, because that is going to help your team more so then body shots
b. Have more to your game then charge up behind an object and step around corner and fire shot, then repeat. Getting off many shots is pretty beneficial, along with moving between shots
3c. be aggressive!!!! nothing is more annoying then watching 4 snipers on your team play defense. I don't play sniper as much recently because i have too many defensive snipers that don't do anything to help their team. Push and take out the defense.
Lastly. Picking the right targets first. I watch too many snipers aim for other snipers. Do that only when he's going to kill you before you get a shot off. Other then that, kill medics first people

My favorite things about sniping are when the other team changes to either sniper or spy to try and have an affect on you. I think its pretty weak switching to spy and backstabbing the sniper with 2 sentries that kill you immediately

The best...
ThatGuy, Fuse, Hoostrax (can't believe only that guy mentioned her), dryft, Doobs (he left after I killed him once... sissy), cccp, firethem. Thats all i can think of, i'm sure i forgot someone.

To me a good sniper is "one shot one kill" access the target's and optamize prioritey. Now let me break that down for you.

~If you cant do it with one shot dont bother at all. A sniper that can pluck 4 targets off with 4 bullets to me is a start at a good sniper.

~If you got a group of targets coming out pick off the ones that will crippel that gropu. AE- a group of people come out of a base that consists of a medic, heavy, pyro, and demo... in this matter i would proble be able to take out the Medic first, demo next, and if i still got a shot i would take wich ever was the clearist shot.

~A good sniper talks to their team and gives them heads up's when he can... a good D is one that can spot incoming threats way before hand and can prep.

~and lasley change your positions... there is nothing more deadley to a sniper than somone knowing where your position is.

As far as the best sniper goes... i think every sniper i have whent up agenst had somthing or other to offer... good all around sniper that i have seen or played agenst is NYPD Sharp.... i havent played with Thatguy yet so i cant judge him... however Sharp meets all the requirements to being a great sniper in my OP.

I can rattle off 3 consecutive headshots in a matter of seconds on a heavy to get a kill. I could spend 5 seconds getting a full charge or get three headshots in 5 seconds. Same amount of time either way. Just because you don't get a kill when you shoot doesn't mean you shouldn't bother... If you cap anyone in the head they are severely crippled, not to mention you can just rattle off another one with very little effort within a one second passing period. Other snipers, engis, spies, and scouts can all die with no charge, so why get a full charge on them? It is a good idea, though to prep a 1/2 charge on a demoman, pyro, or soldier. Even if you don't get a headshot, a 1/2 charged shot will take a soldier or demoman past half HP, which makes them a lot less agressive.

Anyone can just sit in the back and do nothing but wait for people and stat pad with a full charge to get 4 kills in 4 shots any day, but that doesn't make them a "good sniper". A good sniper will gain a vantage point to help his team move up by getting rid of either other snipers or pesky soldiers and demoman and take out the engineers trying to repair their sentries.

But this post isn't intended for speeches on "How to play sniper, here is what a good team playing sniper will do". This is for a fun event to look at individual skills and have some fun seeing who has the quickest scope. We are looking more towards the ability of the individual in this event. It will be the first event FOR the individual that I can think of in the last three or four months I've been here. Even WTB involves teamplay. We simply posted this because we wanted the community to recognize people that we might not all get to play with all of the time that could be a part of this unique event.

Another thing that proves you are a good sniper is when you can stand (in a medium distance) in front of any class and, while being in full view of the person AND getting shot at, still manage to kill him/her.
I loooove when heavies use their minigun on me while far away.
I looooooove soldiers throwing rockets everywhere around me thinking it's enough for me to run away. I looooooove the face of a sniper that shot me first that gets headshotted the second after.

Engies behind their sentry thinking their pistol is better than my sniper, scout rushing me with their shotgun thinking their shots are enough to make me afraid of them, demos that think they spam all the ledge in warpath but only get halfway trough, medics that think their leech syringes will save them, spies that take my name while running at me, pyros who think their fire will distract me from aiming at the head.

All that, I love to headshot during those "disavantaged" conditions. Better again when you get shot at from one way, kill someone the other way, turn back and kill the person that was shooting you first.

If you can do all that, you are a good sniper ^_^

And for those who havent noticed, in scrim forums, we have posted times and date of the sniper's scrim, as well as the invited players list.

I'll add some names.

Voided
Tigster
mop
I am legend
OsirisIraq
Who's yo Daddy
Noodlez
NeOfito
Hostile
Rawr

On the rare occasions when they snipe.

Who's yo daddy and OsirisIraq (when i do see him) live in the 2fort battlements, Thatguy and drift i've ever only seen in Warpath, and Noodlez and Voided are good all-round players. Tigster is an impressive sniper though I rarely see him on the servers anymore.

edit: thanks for the mention thatguy :)

I think ThatGuy and Fuse are 2 of the best I have seen. They are awesome and I find myself healing them at times when I can. Nothing wrong with picking up a few more assist kills.....:)

Woops this is Mishy.....I forgot to login under my name.

ThatGuy and Kaela(Erie) are the two best snipers I've seen, I've been in game with Kaela more often and when I see her on the enemy battlements...I'll admit it...I get scared, and I go sewers so she can't shoot me :s I have medic-ized for her while she was sniping from the sewers once...Never got so many assists off a sniper...
