Counter-Strike Global Offensive Jail Server Jailbreak unwritten rules

"If you freedamage more than 50hp, you have to swap."

Sopheyy trying to see how much freedamage she can do before a swap :o

How bout just don’t freedamage and if your aim is that bad, idk maybe practice before you play as a CT?????

If I was an admin, I'd enforce my own no long LRs rule. 3 mins max. Sometimes I lit watch 7 minute LRs.

That'll definitely fall under delay/server disruption. Ive been seeing it happen more often than not so I usually send a warning or a PM to please not delay the round. Having 30+ players spectate someone messing around for 3+ minutes is no fun :l

Of course if that T is actually pursuing the round and killing off CT's within those minutes that's completely fine, but if they are in the same "custom" lr with that one CT for that long im not letting it happen. I've been telling more admins to keep an eye on this sort of stuff because it does cause players to leave the server.

So this is now the 4th or 5th thread on some rule that is being enforced that isn’t even a rule. I really don’t know how I can say this more clearly.

Stop enforcing things that aren’t stated/closely related to a rule that we have. I don’t care if “that’s what we did at pG” or “that’s how it’s always been”. We need to stray away from needing an exact ruling on every single little detail for you to admin correctly and start using our mental aptitude and critical thinking skills when a situation arises. Think “is that breaking one of our rules we have set in place? Or am I just trying to admin something based off of no premise?”

Please, for my sanity’s sake. Stop enforcing rules that don’t exist.

Exactly what I'm trying to do with this thread.
I want "unwritten rules", voiced and I want them cleared to either be a rule, or to not be a rule.

Mayhem Death Mayhem Death

Before on the old server we always let T's bloodhound anytime they wanted if they wanted to and were alive. Like if we are about to get lr we would always ask if they want to bloodhound so we don't search the map for 3 minutes. It just caused less drama and sped up the round.
Kind of off topic from the original post but just my thoughts.

Also what Mayhem said, admin the rules like they are written and if something comes up you all should have common sense (I hope since you got admin) to deal with it.

Yea, and that's what I was arguing for it to be on this server. The problem is that it is considered "griefing" your teammates when doing this.
About the "looking around the map for 3 minutes", this wouldn't really happen because if people are rebelling, you have to play games until there is one person left who can then potentially LR (if there's only 1 rebel).

crc1225

So....
-> fight through the round, be a good T the entire time
-> win game after game
-> be one of the last 2 Ts to LR
-> killed off because someone is rebelling and we cant bloodhound

Admins try to stay consistant to prevent people from getting frustrated. A good example is "you can play a game twice if a T doesn't die" even though the rules say "same game cannot be played twice in the same round". Technically ATs decision contradicts the original rules but we follow what ATs say, this causes not all admins being on the same page and confusion.

Lol what. So you are saying you break the rule that we have because it is a convenience for you?

I don't think he's saying that, I just think hes saying that there are implied rules some admins are following while others are not. We need to be consistent as admins. An example is the bloodhound without reward.

After speaking with AT's we agreed that this is an implied rule we should continue enforcing, even though it's not currently in the rules. I understand you expressed if its not stated in rules then we shouldn't follow them so some of the implied rules that has been enforced for so long are being clarified in the new rules and FAQ.

Also I've been seeing this question pop up more and im assuming its because of the whole marker race meta. Basically if the game played didn't kill any T's (winners/losers) then the game was never truly played. That's why wardens are able to play the same game IF the game didn't have winners/losers.

However, if it gets to the point where the warden is playing the game 2+ times admins should enforce round delay and have the warden pursue the round.

From what I'm seeing here is if I have to join the server and admin it, I'mma just end up banning half the server and calling it a day seeing as half the people here and on the server lack the ability to think critically and just have fun instead of nit-picking that so-n-so rule isn't written down or that person X said Y while person Z said A and no one can figure out how just use their damn heads and think before they act.

Also how to just have fun, but apparently that can't happen on 4chan the Server...

This clearly shows that you haven't played on the server much, if you even have at all.
We do have fun, we do know how to use our heads, and we do what we can to keep the server as clean as possible.

We have to keep in mind that there are 52 slots on the server, 90% of them being regulars, who do nitpick rules, who will do anything to try to find loopholes and get away with things that, using common sense, shouldn't be allowed. Though, if we argue that he is wrong, he will argue that it is not in the rules, or that it can be understood a certain way. Yes, admins have last say - but if the entire server starts enforcing one thing, then it's hard as a single admin to enforce something else. It's hard because the "unwritten rules" are not stated anywhere. Not in the rulebook. Not in FAQ.

This is merely an attempt to clean it all up, to get everything under control - and to make our jobs easier. Why are you against that?

Here's what I remember being taught in DoD:s where we always had a very efficient and close-nit admining team. It's a style of admining I hadn't seen for a while since I saw Sophey on yesterday. idk if this is what is still taught, but it's always a better server when admins perform in this way:

1) Be the bold admin that enforces all the written rules, and explains why to all players and other admins, no matter how many people are breaking the rules on the server. Using your judgement happens only when something occurs that isn't covered by the rules, in which you are required to still keep to what we called "in the spirit of the rules/eGO". Enforcing unwritten rules, no matter how much sense they make, is just going to cause confusion and inconsistency in the long run.

2) Don't let the small stuff go. A lot of time rule-breaking people come to break rules and troll. Often you can see them testing what they can get away with. Be considerate, polite and careful, but strict on small stuff - such as someone being disrespectful to another player. This way it will rarely escalate to the point where that player loses their cool and starts kicking off, and you won't be forced to ban them or the person they were trolling unfairly.

3) Act quickly, make your judgement, then shut down the debate. The servers are never a good place to debate rules, especially unwritten ones. If a player should swap, or if a punishment is fair, whatever. We used to link them to the forums to make any complaint, then gag as necessary. I too often see whole servers arguing over what is fair or not, or what the rules say.

If there has to be a thread about unwritten rules for a server then clearly it has gotten out of hand. Or the fact that they are trying to tow the line.

There seems also to be a lack of putting your foot down when you hear pubs calling out rules that so-n-so said exists or doesn’t exist and stomping it out fast.

If a pub wants to argue after being told to drop it then take admin action on them.

I’ve watched from spectator and it seems like the pubs know they can get away with a bunch of shit and have no consequences brought upon them, hence the 4chan the Server label I give it. I have very little interest in playing a server that lacks coordinated and confident administrative team willing to reign in the monstrosity that is the pubs on the server.

I have seen the pubs complain about any action taken against them or lack of action against others when they feel wronged by said persons. I have seen them call admins toxic and cancer and unwilling to drop arguements when told to do so and I have seen them skirt around gags and mutes by changing there names.

Are there admins that don’t take no gruff. Yea but they seem to be in the minority.

So should threads like this exist? No

Should admins be on teamspeak? Yes

Should pubs and regulars have questions about rules be on teamspeak? Yes

But in reality everyone should take notice of new rules and questioning if they are valid or if its just a game of telephone where someone hears something from somewhere and passes it along either incorrectly or not even something thats valid to begin with.

Common sense solves a majority of issues, I know as I’ve dealt with the Jail crowd for ten years and as advisor of Jail for four years. At one point I had 50 e’s on my friends invite list awaiting to be accepted but not mainly due to Steams limit back then and the fact many of them just whined about rules or being freekilled or what not.

The game being played shouldn't be based on whether someone was killed or not. If a game is started by the warden but then ended early because there was an unfair advantage present, then that wouldn't be playing the game. But if he ran the game all the way to the end and there was a tie resulting in no deaths, the game was still played. CTs don't get to replay a game after the finalization of the game didn't result in a favorable outcome to the guards.

Implied rule = a rule we want to be a rule even though it isn't but we're going to enforce it anyways? That's what I got out of this post.

Time for a new AT team if that's what you guys decide is okay. Having unwritten "implied" rules. Implied rules should be like "no team flashing" since it falls under the the bold part of global rule #5 No server disruption, including: griefing, mic/chat spamming, trolling or intentionally interfering with teammates.

Also you say you understand that the CS Sr. Manager expressed that he didn't want you enforcing unwritten rules, but then tell him that the AT team came to their own decision and are going to directly contradict his decision anyways. Unless you include the Sr. Manager in your discussion that's not how that should work. Chain of command exists for a reason. If you don't like what he decided, take it up with him.

One of the other rules also says games must have winners/losers, so either way you're doing something wrong if we enforce every single rule.

Games must have winners or losers in the sense that you can't play a game for fun and not to take winners&losers because that's a waste of round time and delays the progress of a round. Not that it must have an outcome of winners&losers. Use some common sense. Yeah, I'm mad-posting now.

I feel like we're veering off too much with this post. I'm sure we can all agree that common sense is to be applied to all gray areas in rules. My first reply to this thread answered all of sopheyys questions. The main issue im seeing here is the whole "bloodhounding without reward" being the status quo yet its not an "implied" rule and more like a rule on its own. Custom Stats can give you an explanation if he wanted to as to why its something that's been enforced.

Sure, in most cases admins and players should be able to come to a the correct conclusion but im sure we all know common sense isn't so common. Reason we have FAQ, Admin Help Forums, and AT's on Teamspeak is to make sure if a question arises about a particular rule we all enforce it consistently. Now if you disagree with a rule interpretation then it should be something brought up in a thread to allow people to voice their disagreement.
Luna Luna , Mayhem knows that AT's has been in the process of cleaning up rules and FAQ. Hell, he's the one who gave us the green light and told us to collaborate together to get them updated. If you think we're ignoring what he's said or doing things under his nose then you are mistaken.

Hello,

First off, I'd like to show appreciation to those that have left feedback thus far on this thread.

As Jacko Jacko stated, CS AT/Leadership have been working diligently behind the scenes to update our Jail-Break Rules.

This particular quote to which was made by Mayhem Death can be found HERE.

Using your common sense is vital to keeping the servers at ease. Not every situation you will run into will be cut and dry. There will be some problems that come up in the server that will require you to use your situational awareness, critical thinking skills, and patience. Sadly we are not able to make every single situation defined in our rules, so as admins you must make sure to think quickly, but thoroughly.

With that, a vast majority of our rules are vague as not all scenarios will be accounted for within FAQ/Server Rules. We don't need our rules to be a bible or encyclopedia as it would detract from game-play. If a situation arises that you are not familiar with or don't know how to handle right away, take a step back to process the situation. We are a team, so we should be working together as we are all a part of EdgeGamers.

If all else fails, contact an Admin Trainer directly about how to handle that particular situation or make a thread within Admin Help. If you have a minor question that can be taken care of via Steam or Team-Speak then by all means get with an AT/Leadership. If you have a question that could be beneficial for everyone then make a post within Admin Help. There are a plethora of resources to which can be used.

Time for a new AT team if that's what you guys decide is okay.

We need to take a step back, and leave your insulting commentary at the door, we are ALL a part of EdgeGamers and we need to have a unified front when it comes to ensuring that the servers run smoothly, without this all else is irrelevant. As a fellow Admin Trainer, I'm quite offended by this remark.
