Counter-Strike Global Offensive Jail Server Kicks and Bans

For anyone that doesn't know me, I'm Raz. I've been playing EGO on and off for just over a year now. I noticed that more recently the admins (specifically a few) have gotten more cancerous. There have always been some bad apples such as when I got kicked for calling myself stupid (the r word for it), but the majority of the admins have been fine and helpful. Many are there that just like the server and want to see it grow, such as Joey, Power Outlet, and Kazz. To those, thank you. However, recently more admins have been getting irky with the ban and kick hammer. While I joke around and troll a little bit, I never once say racist things or use any derogatory terms. Apparently swearing is disrespect, even as a joke. On the server I have a gang called "The Crips", obviously after the blue wearing gang. I got kicked for saying to a fellow gang member when talking about how he better not be a blood spy, "You better not like the color red biotch" and that somehow warrented a kick. I don't know if some admins cannot take a joke or if there is a reason that some admins don't like me. For the most part, I get along with admins and other players. No one on the server really hates me, except a single admin. Without saying his name (I don't know if that will get the post removed), he constantly shows favoritism by banning only some people even though multiple people have done the same thing. I completely understand kicking (or banning if warranted) those that use slurs. I don't think calling someone the b word is disrespect, especially if it is as a joke. Rather than take the North Korea approach, I suggest admins rather find why people are mad, or recognize the fact that it might be a joke, such as in my circumstance. To the admins that already do that, thank you. You make the server a fun place. To me, admins are like cops. When cops use too much aggression then nobody respects or trusts the police. The same is with admins. The fact that a few admins (few as in only 2 or 3) have gotten a reputation for banning and kicking everything doesn't help anyone. TLDR: Banning for slurs makes sense, banning for jokingly calling someone a swear word when they obviously get along doesn't.

Hello @Raztoki - I would recommend gathering evidence on the troublesome admin showing favoritism if it is true, and creating a contact leadership post. It is much better to handle conflicts with admins in private rather than public, as when you do it publicly admins grow a distaste towards you. I understand where you are coming from, but this is not the way to solve an issue like this. The main reason this is happening is because there was a recent promotion day, and when that happens the new admins tend to be very handbook due to fear of their admin being revoked. These new admins will learn with time.

Alright. Not that I am agreeing nor saying it is wrong. On the forums here we have Contest Ban forum. You can contest there if you think you have been banned wrongfully or you want to be un-banned from our servers.

If you think that an admin is wrongfully using their powers, abusing it, misusing it in any shape or forum. You can make Contact Leadership forum and post your concern there and a member from leadership will get in contact with you and handle the situation.

I am sorry if you did have any bad experiences on the servers.

While I agree with you, it is more than just this specific admin and this specific occasion. Lots of the "regulars" on this server have quit over the admins banning people for small things. It is also a little hard when the admin in question is extremely high up. They know who they are, and I think they already have a "distaste towards me". I care less about this single admin than I do about the whole picture. Everyday it feels like there is a new admin. If admins keep this up, soon many more will leave the server. The server has become something I care about and a place where many of the people I hang out with are on. I don't want it to soon become Britain with the constant regulations

So how is one suppose to know a joke from being serious? Where do we draw the line? Should we be reading your mind and be able to read through your "joking"? That is where you unfortunately do not understand an admins perspective.

When we just let things go as a "joke", we are reported by members of the server or even other admins because we aren't doing our job. When we admin everything like we should be, we are reported for being assholes and Nazis. I would love nothing more than for all of my admins to have the power of mind reading to know if you or anyone is joking or not. And I wish people wouldn't get so offended by jokes or by just messing around, but they do.

You don't see it, but people report others for "joking around" a lot more than you think and we admin it. People get offended and we want everyone to be comfortable playing. If you want to joke around, take it off the server. I will leave this open for a bit on the agreement that it will stay professional and as a conversation.

I don't think admins should be able to read minds, but they should have common sense. In my case, I said to someone in my gang (The Crips) after he said he was a spy for the Bloods, "You better not like red biotch" and I got kicked. Using common sense and context clues it is obvious that it was a joke. If the current system is Warn-Kick-Ban, at least they could have PM'd me to ask the situation or warned.

Admins do not have time to warn every single individual person by PM for every infraction. Usually I send out a general warning "Please be respectful to all players thanks". Just because you don't get a PM doesn't mean the rules don't apply especially when warnings are sent out. Your failure to know or follow the rules when we send out warnings is not our fault. Admins want to play on the server and have fun just like you. As such we follow the play first, admin second.

What happens when we let stuff like that happen is then it acts as a gateway towards a more toxic and unenjoyable server because people start to think admins don't do anything about disrespect.

There was no warning at all, even the vague ones. I was simply saying you could Pm someone if you were unsure. And the rules are no disrespect. It was clearly not disrespect if both of us were joking around. This isn't a detective case, its fairly obvious to anyone, even the dullest of people, that saying to someone in a gang called "The Crips" who wear blue, "you better hate red biotch" after he said he was a spy for the bloods is not disrespect, its a joke.

Same way you differentiaite things in the real world. If you read the two lines before it clearly shows him saying after joining "The Crips" that he was a spy for the bloods. I then said "you better hate red biotch". The context matters and rather than instant kicking and banning people, admins should look at the context. An even more unenjoyable server than someone jokingly calling someone a "biotch" (yes spelled just like that) would be one where people can't say a single word for fear of them getting banned. Didn't realize I took a trip to North Korea.

Disrespect is disrespect whether you are joking or not. As an admin, I'm not going to waste my precious gaming time trying to figure out if you calling someone a "biotch" is meant to be a joke. Your comment other than the use of "biotch" is within the rules. I recommend you move on from this and not use any language that could be seen as disrespectful and then you won't have an issue.

Context is really the main thing needed here. Even if it was a joke, though, they weren't necessarily in the wrong, as it's still disrespect on some level. As multiple people have already said, there is a contest ban forum page, and if you have sufficient evidence of a staff member playing favorites, you can report it in the contact leadership section.

trying to tell if some thing is sarcasm in real life and in game is 2 completly different things, in real life you can tell by the tone of their voice, in game its as if they just said it in a poker face without changeing tone from other sentances, that would be hard to tell if it was sarcasm. This is the same as if someone jokingly said F*** you, what are we supposed to do, on one hand they might be joking but we cant tell, its better to be on the safe side and treat it as disrespect.

If it's in voice you can tell pretty easily, but in text you're totally correct

If you can't spend 10 seconds reading two messages prior then you shouldn't be in a role where you agree to go above the normal role of a player by moderating the server. I'm not asking you to go sherlock holmes, I'm asking you to spend 10 seconds to read the two lines of text in chat before it, giving it context and easily showing its a joke. Admins are the enforcement of the server. You also said "not use any language that could be seen as disrespectful". Imagine playing and you had to choose each word that came out of your mouth carefully as to not offend any snowflakes in the vicinity. North Korea. Los Angeles. I understand banning for more serious things such as slurs, but for a swear word? We aren't on Oberlin's campus.

It all goes back to the saying "'Would you rather 10 guilty men go free than one innocent man be wrongly convicted". Would you rather someone joking get banned vs. some people getting away. Or better yet, warn rather than kick in the first place or look for context before deciding and no guilty people will get away with it.

Well now you are saying admins aren't doing their jobs, which is where this thread will end. The admins of our servers will continue to diligently take care of people who decide to break our rules. If they decide to risk running the line of our rules by playing "jokes" on each other, then that is of their own volition.

In short: Good luck out there. If you keep skating close to the line then you are going to eventually get burned.
