Who asked for another long Dryden post? nooooobodyyyy
I have been working in the IT "world" since I was in Grade 10, I'm currently in my first year of college (Three years later,) and for a field that's nothing like IT. Im studying social and human sciences, all the while, I've been working at an insurance company in IT. for the past 7-ish months.
Its been about 3 years within the IT realm per-say, and two different companies that I've been with, one as a team lead and one as a independent programmer. IT and programming is something I had liked before, and something I'm good at, but in all honesty I've come to dread each day, and the mentally draining IT positions I've been in.
My contract is up on the 31st and I decided to not extend it. So as of 2020, im no longer working in IT. Who knows, maybe I'll continue working in IT until I graduate, maybe I'll work somewhere else. Still want a job so its either a retail job entry level, or I go BACK INTO IT as a higher paying job, idk I like money.
All I know is that next year I'm going to do a co-op with United Way helping organizations finance their programs. Something I'm passionate about for once, and in the field of what I want to be when I'm all graduated; Specifically a Mental Health and Addictions Counsellor.
One thing I would like to add to anyone who's younger and still in high school: If where you are offers a High-school coop program, please please please take it. It lets you know if its something you want to actually do, and don't apply to like a job that you can get without any experience like working at a clothes store, apply to a place that's ambitious and take it seriously. I feel like my experience is super helpful since I had a complete realization that it was not where I wanted to be.
Im not saying you can't enjoy doing tech stuff or IT or whatever, The type of person I am is a (@moyye) peoples person, I love working with people, my most recent team lead position was like that, but it only hinted at what I like and made me want it that much more. I know many people happy as can be working in IT and getting all that mulah$$, but it's not my top priority.
Please ask me questions, I'd say I'm semi-decent at giving advice or information since I'm in school for it.
Maybe I should add I'm like 18 so discontentment, and dissatisfaction are common anyway, I'm still maturing as an adult.
