I saw This suggestion and wanted to propose an expansion on the concept suggested by

. [SUP]You should totally go and also give some input on that if you were interested in this post. wink wink nudge nudge[/SUP]
I agree 100% with the concept proposed; but maybe we can think bigger than just the DS plugins.
There are quite a few famous groups within eGO; some notable mentions include YungSquad, SMH My Head, kz, tight 4skin, and others. People flock to some of these subgroups.
The expansion I propose is we should be able to display these affiliations proudly, everywhere.
I'm sure that some of the groups aformentioned might even pay extra to allow it's followers to have their affiliations to display their group proudly in other places than just in game; say TS, discord, and the Forums.
In example; the crowd I usually play with I refer to as the <3 Squad. (sounds... weird, I know; trust me there is a reason). I would LOVE to be able to display it on TS! we could even use it for deligating default access to DS channels and stuff (via ChannelGroups, an underutilized system of groups). I can see this having some charm on Discord, and the Forums too.
Overall I would suppose we call such an expansion "Factions", similar to the "Gangs" system in Jailbreak. These Factions would be purely cosmetic, and would grant no additonal permissions/abilities to it's members. (Faction owners can appoint faction admins that can help keep them under control). It in it's simplist form is just a way to show group pride and spirit.
I would suggest that this if implemented should come at an extra cost because we essentially would be sharing some additional cosmetics with members who otherwise wouldn't have them; maybe an additional 5 or 10 bucks monthly.
As for how this can be implemented, I believe we already have most of the systems in place for it; For TS, EdgeGamers Bot has all the needed functionality for this system already through it's normal tasks, And it would allow for nearly seemless UX. For Discord, You would need a Discord bot to handle the syncing and management, but from rumors that is in the works in some other projects. For the forums, using the built-in tag system would be a piece of cake. As for in-game, per the original thread I linked, Folkai suggests solid ways of executing this.
All this tied into a DB or MAUL, so deployment and configuration is synced to every platform.
Because of this, the needed work to make this happen would be minimal, it would simply just be using the prexisting framework and adding minor expansions. No addtional plugins needed, just stuff tacked on to existing stuff.
This wouldn't have to be rolled out as one package, you could add things in little by little, starting with say in-game, then TS, then the forums, then discord, etc etc.
Anyhow at this point I am ranting.
To summarize and end; I suggest we expand on DS tags and allow us to make groups with it per the original discussion, on a community-wide scale. I suggest that such be called Factions, and put as an additional cost and option for DS's.
This would allow for users to express their pride and joy, and encurage users bonding with other users.
