I saw This suggestion and wanted to propose an expansion on the concept suggested by F Fokai . [SUP]You should totally go and also give some input on that if you were interested in this post. wink wink nudge nudge[/SUP]

I agree 100% with the concept proposed; but maybe we can think bigger than just the DS plugins.

There are quite a few famous groups within eGO; some notable mentions include YungSquad, SMH My Head, kz, tight 4skin, and others. People flock to some of these subgroups.

The expansion I propose is we should be able to display these affiliations proudly, everywhere.
I'm sure that some of the groups aformentioned might even pay extra to allow it's followers to have their affiliations to display their group proudly in other places than just in game; say TS, discord, and the Forums.

In example; the crowd I usually play with I refer to as the <3 Squad. (sounds... weird, I know; trust me there is a reason). I would LOVE to be able to display it on TS! we could even use it for deligating default access to DS channels and stuff (via ChannelGroups, an underutilized system of groups). I can see this having some charm on Discord, and the Forums too.

Overall I would suppose we call such an expansion "Factions", similar to the "Gangs" system in Jailbreak. These Factions would be purely cosmetic, and would grant no additonal permissions/abilities to it's members. (Faction owners can appoint faction admins that can help keep them under control). It in it's simplist form is just a way to show group pride and spirit.

I would suggest that this if implemented should come at an extra cost because we essentially would be sharing some additional cosmetics with members who otherwise wouldn't have them; maybe an additional 5 or 10 bucks monthly.

As for how this can be implemented, I believe we already have most of the systems in place for it; For TS, EdgeGamers Bot has all the needed functionality for this system already through it's normal tasks, And it would allow for nearly seemless UX. For Discord, You would need a Discord bot to handle the syncing and management, but from rumors that is in the works in some other projects. For the forums, using the built-in tag system would be a piece of cake. As for in-game, per the original thread I linked, Folkai suggests solid ways of executing this.

All this tied into a DB or MAUL, so deployment and configuration is synced to every platform.

Because of this, the needed work to make this happen would be minimal, it would simply just be using the prexisting framework and adding minor expansions. No addtional plugins needed, just stuff tacked on to existing stuff.
This wouldn't have to be rolled out as one package, you could add things in little by little, starting with say in-game, then TS, then the forums, then discord, etc etc.

Anyhow at this point I am ranting.

To summarize and end; I suggest we expand on DS tags and allow us to make groups with it per the original discussion, on a community-wide scale. I suggest that such be called Factions, and put as an additional cost and option for DS's.

This would allow for users to express their pride and joy, and encurage users bonding with other users.

Another note; I think that there would need to be an expansion on regulations regarding something like this as well, to ensure that everyone has a good time, and no edge cases of serious issues of factions feuding or etc.

+1 as long as its eGO appropriate since god knows some tags are real messed up

I do like the idea that this is very simple and straight forward, relatively easy to implement and I too, feel it would likely bring in a few extra DS subscriptions.

On the other hand, once upon a time we used to have a thing similar called "Houses". They were basically "factions" that were groups repped between DoD servers. It sort of ended in disaster because of how cliquey and hostile groups became towards each other and we were forced to kill it off because of that. It got ugly at times.

That's my only concern - things becoming cliquey and dividing the community as a whole apart. I'd like to hear what others think of this idea and it's implementation though, definitely not writing it off here.

It seems like whenever you can put a tag on someone, that tag defines them with a whole group and that can definitely lead to hostile people.

I like the suggestion, but I can't imagine how dumb some people could be to actually be toxic to others due to an affiliation.

I can especially see this to give others the ability to have favorites. In CSGO, multiple gangs have (and still) get together in a call to either ghost or bargain their way to LR. I could see this affect admins too and their punishments (not that it would happen, it's just nature).

Both of you bring up excellent points. I wholeheartedly agree; there would need to be rules to curb unruly and undesirable behavior. Names should be held to the same standard player names are held to (maybe a tweak here or there), and rules added with consequences to curb any sort of inter-faction feuds. This isn't intended as a way to turn eGO into just a series of cliques. Overall people should be more focused on eGO as a community way before any sort of faction. We should be trying to get closer together, not split the community apart

To be clear some aspect of this already exists. You can't get rid of cliques, people will always group together in some fashion.

Of course this would expand these groups significantly, but at least you in theory can have some control with this. Recognize them and empower them to a point; but at the same time work to ensure that these groups are positive ones.

To be fair your comments on breeding bad behavior like ghosting and preferential treatment are good ones. I do however think that in some capacity this happens already. (As you say, it is human nature.) This idea would definitely put a spotlight on this area and you'd probably have mode reported cases of this happening.

Overall bad apples shouldn't ruin the whole tree. I'm sure a lot of concern will be voiced along the same lines. I suggest a trial phase be used to test and see if the idea can survive.

This suggestion was a while ago damn, but yes I am still interesting +1 and just been patiently waiting about it cause I remember commenting on someone's post similar to mine about it. I'm not too sure that a tech saw one of the post and said it was on their mind or list but maybe this post will remind them again.

Seems like a pretty cool idea, however, i have some issues with it on TTT, Since you quote "Overall I would suppose we call such an expansion "Factions", similar to the "Gangs" system in Jailbreak"

i can see this being abused badly on TTT,
i do not know how Gangs works on Jailbreak, when creating gangs on Jailbreak does it say that a (Gang name) was created in chat if so, i can see some Dedicated abusing it, and changing it to who ever is the T . Yes there Ds can be stripped, however, when no admins are on/Experience players with forum accounts to report the abuse, this can cause major unfair problems.

If they somehow add it where it wont say the certain gang has been created in chat then its a +1 for me....

however adding to my own thing about new Ds Benefits, When can we get more chat color /username colors >:(

Maybe the use of !stats is possible to bring in the !gang like ranking?

There is actually a plugin dedicated to stripping tags to only round specific tags, so in TTT this wouldn't allow scoreboard Ghosting.

As great of an idea as this is, I'd rather not feed into the idea of cliques. I know they already exist, but rather than fuel more onto the fire I'd rather more people be open to everyone.

Thanks for the suggestion!
