EdgeGamers Update Regarding COVID-19 Impact on Community

This is a tough and certainly unique time we are experiencing globally. I am sure your emails are filled with various announcements and releases all containing stances on COVID-19 and the impact various businesses and companies are facing. While we?re not going to blast the typical message that most companies have been, there?s still some significant impacts that EdgeGamers and it?s gamers are facing. I hope to shed some light on this situation and the actions we are taking to ensure our community and business, like many others, forge forward.
Last week 280,000 people filed for unemployment benefits. Many people are out of work and are starting to realize the weight of the world pressing down on their shoulders with lack of income. I have already spoken with a handful of folks who have expressed their immediate concern needing to cancel benefits online such as our Dedicated Supporter subscription service. I completely understand this and support each and every one of you who have to do this. While it may be only be a minimum of $5, that money can certainly help contribute to other necessities in the world outside of gaming.
Our community runs on the support of its Gamers and members. Last year, we pulled back our website and forum based ad service in favor of a strict approach of member contributions to keep the lights on. Under current circumstances, we want to be proactive in our approach to make sure that we do not need to cut service down the road. After consulting the Executive Team and our Community Managers I have decided to proceed with re-adding such ads to our website and forums for the time being. What does this mean? If you do not have ad-blockers enabled you will begin to see block and banner ads located in various locations on our home site and the forums. For those who have ad-block enabled ? help us out and add an exception to the EdgeGamers domain to allow the viewing of ads. Why? This will help supplement the support stream supplied by those who are temporarily cancelling their Dedicated Supporter contributions.
We are in a unique time in the world and the United States. In a time of isolation, we look forward to the time we are going to spend together gaming. We will continue to provide a safe and fair place to game as long as we can. We hope you are understanding of the stance and action we must take. We are committed to providing you the punk free gaming you are used to without change, even during this difficult span.
