Title. take away the e by name or whatever, I won't be using this forum account anymore. The admin system on the 24/7 Heavy Metal server is dumb as dicks and I've lost all interest in enforcing it. I have the same amount of power to effectively prevent rulebreakers as a pub as I would as an eGO. Y'all's insistence on warning rulebreakers actively hampers the effectiveness of any moderating on the server. (for reference, from here forward, whenever I say "rulebreaker", I want you to imagine either someone actively baseraping or griefing nonstop, because that's the only common type of offender).
For one, most people who are breaking the rules are not gonna be reading the chat. This wouldn't be an issue if the admins were required to use !yell to warn people by default, but I've seen literally all of one admin who understands this and never uses the chat to warn people. This isn't just a rulebreaker thing, most people don't read the chat, and those who do inevitably miss messages because they're in firefights. Warning people in the chat is pissing in the wind. Don't even get me started on @rules, using that to warn someone is like trying to use a white noise machine to wake up someone sleeping with noise cancelling headphones on.
Side note, warning griefers with "do not destroy team assets" is just laughably moronic because nobody with few enough braincells to be griefing is going to know what the hell that's supposed to mean. Say "do not destroy empty vehicles", that's much more clear.
For two, when someone is breaking the rules out of malice rather than ignorance, and they happen to read a warning in chat, they go "oh cool, this server doesn't have an auto-admin, I can baserape freely whenever nobody with the eGO clan tag is online" and they'll either leave, or play by the rules, now knowing when they can break the rules freely and when they can't. In this situation, not only has a malicious player failed to be removed from the server, they have been provided with the exact knowledge they need to break the rules without consequence.
In the case of a rulebreaker who does not notice the warning (i.e. most of them) who continues to grief/baserape, I usually see them get away with it for another one or two offenses before any admins notice, and a few times I've seen an admin continue to warn in chat someone who clearly wasn't reading the chat at all. Out of the uncounted dozens of rulebreakers I've encountered I have seen a few get kicked, and I can imagine their reaction is largely similar to that described above.
Having put a few ban requests in, I'm now wondering if the "ban" component of W/K/B is a 3 day ban. I sincerely hope it is not, because if it is, that's by and large the stupidest part of the 24/7 Heavy Metal server's admin protocol. I just barely play on eGO once every three days, I can't imagine someone who plays BC2 so casually as to be a griefer/rulebreaker even boots the game that often. I feel like all my ban requests have been ****ing worthless. What are the odds any of those people tried to log on to the server within the three days they were banned? Slim, I'd bet. Even if they did, what total effect does their ban have? Absolute **** all! They're free to get back to baseraping faster than most Amazon packages arrive! Ban people for a month at a time, that'll guarantee t
Then we get to my favorite situation. I'm playing on the server, there's a dude baseraping every now and then, and there's jack shit I can do since there's no admins on. This goes on for a few rounds. Then, lo and behold, an admin joins! Golly, I can finally get this guy what he deserves, oh boy! So I pipe up in chat "Hello! hey so ______ has been baseraping for three rounds now." Maybe a teammate corroborates this, maybe nobody does, either way, all the admin can do is drop an @rules in chat or something similar, and then absolutely nothing happens because the baseraper has gotten a heads up they need to come back at another time to keep baseraping. Yeah, I know, if I'm an =(e)= in that situation I need to get on teamspeak. **** that, I wanna play BC2, if someone is baseraping nonstop I'm just gonna leave and go play on another server. If I did go into teamspeak, and there was someone online who plays BC2, what would they do? Warn the rulebreaker in chat? Boy, yeah, that sure is going to stop them. What's the point of saying "I've been getting baseraped repeatedly" in teamspeak if saying the same thing in the server itself to a recently-joined admin also elicits **** all response?
Nobody administrating the 24/7 Heavy Metal server seems to have an understanding of what a pub's experience is. Pub's experience is of a server with incredibly weak moderation. Warn people with kicks so you guarantee they read the warning. Shit. get an auto-admin like RaS, that server autokills players who baserape. There is no excuse for how limp-dicked the rule enforcement is.
