Title. take away the e by name or whatever, I won't be using this forum account anymore. The admin system on the 24/7 Heavy Metal server is dumb as dicks and I've lost all interest in enforcing it. I have the same amount of power to effectively prevent rulebreakers as a pub as I would as an eGO. Y'all's insistence on warning rulebreakers actively hampers the effectiveness of any moderating on the server. (for reference, from here forward, whenever I say "rulebreaker", I want you to imagine either someone actively baseraping or griefing nonstop, because that's the only common type of offender).

For one, most people who are breaking the rules are not gonna be reading the chat. This wouldn't be an issue if the admins were required to use !yell to warn people by default, but I've seen literally all of one admin who understands this and never uses the chat to warn people. This isn't just a rulebreaker thing, most people don't read the chat, and those who do inevitably miss messages because they're in firefights. Warning people in the chat is pissing in the wind. Don't even get me started on @rules, using that to warn someone is like trying to use a white noise machine to wake up someone sleeping with noise cancelling headphones on.

Side note, warning griefers with "do not destroy team assets" is just laughably moronic because nobody with few enough braincells to be griefing is going to know what the hell that's supposed to mean. Say "do not destroy empty vehicles", that's much more clear.

For two, when someone is breaking the rules out of malice rather than ignorance, and they happen to read a warning in chat, they go "oh cool, this server doesn't have an auto-admin, I can baserape freely whenever nobody with the eGO clan tag is online" and they'll either leave, or play by the rules, now knowing when they can break the rules freely and when they can't. In this situation, not only has a malicious player failed to be removed from the server, they have been provided with the exact knowledge they need to break the rules without consequence.

In the case of a rulebreaker who does not notice the warning (i.e. most of them) who continues to grief/baserape, I usually see them get away with it for another one or two offenses before any admins notice, and a few times I've seen an admin continue to warn in chat someone who clearly wasn't reading the chat at all. Out of the uncounted dozens of rulebreakers I've encountered I have seen a few get kicked, and I can imagine their reaction is largely similar to that described above.

Having put a few ban requests in, I'm now wondering if the "ban" component of W/K/B is a 3 day ban. I sincerely hope it is not, because if it is, that's by and large the stupidest part of the 24/7 Heavy Metal server's admin protocol. I just barely play on eGO once every three days, I can't imagine someone who plays BC2 so casually as to be a griefer/rulebreaker even boots the game that often. I feel like all my ban requests have been ****ing worthless. What are the odds any of those people tried to log on to the server within the three days they were banned? Slim, I'd bet. Even if they did, what total effect does their ban have? Absolute **** all! They're free to get back to baseraping faster than most Amazon packages arrive! Ban people for a month at a time, that'll guarantee t

Then we get to my favorite situation. I'm playing on the server, there's a dude baseraping every now and then, and there's jack shit I can do since there's no admins on. This goes on for a few rounds. Then, lo and behold, an admin joins! Golly, I can finally get this guy what he deserves, oh boy! So I pipe up in chat "Hello! hey so ______ has been baseraping for three rounds now." Maybe a teammate corroborates this, maybe nobody does, either way, all the admin can do is drop an @rules in chat or something similar, and then absolutely nothing happens because the baseraper has gotten a heads up they need to come back at another time to keep baseraping. Yeah, I know, if I'm an =(e)= in that situation I need to get on teamspeak. **** that, I wanna play BC2, if someone is baseraping nonstop I'm just gonna leave and go play on another server. If I did go into teamspeak, and there was someone online who plays BC2, what would they do? Warn the rulebreaker in chat? Boy, yeah, that sure is going to stop them. What's the point of saying "I've been getting baseraped repeatedly" in teamspeak if saying the same thing in the server itself to a recently-joined admin also elicits **** all response?

Nobody administrating the 24/7 Heavy Metal server seems to have an understanding of what a pub's experience is. Pub's experience is of a server with incredibly weak moderation. Warn people with kicks so you guarantee they read the warning. Shit. get an auto-admin like RaS, that server autokills players who baserape. There is no excuse for how limp-dicked the rule enforcement is.

Maybe you should get on TS and discuss this with myself or another member of Leadership.

Well 9 years of our server being within the top ten in THE WORLD says you are wrong, eGO has always tried to give players the benefit of doubt and yes sometimes it comes back to bite us in the butt, most of the time it doesn't. You can't handle our policy just remove your "e", and don't log into our forums for more than a week and your done.

Edge-gamers, the few, the proud, the admin

There's a lot of frustration there. Before anyone says the "B" word, sometimes you just gotta get it out.

I have to ask though...why is there such a fixation on teamspeak? Most members that post in this forum don't interact with many other forums, if any, and many (like me) aren't big on "chatting on the phone". For guys like Letherfut who are actively pursuing an admin role (read babysitter) as advertised in the single server we have for this lovely old game, is it really necessary to put them through such a long training period? Wouldn't it just be easier to try them out and see if they abuse it or mess up, then just take away their permissions if they do?

The server does need more interested admins, that's for sure.

If we did that, we would be the same as every other clan out there, we have higher standards, we want our admins to have those standards as well.
As for Teamspeak, it is by far, way easier to talk on Teamspeak than to hope your message is seen on the ingame chat, it is also faster to speak than it is to type.

I'm not saying that it should be an "I want admin" ... "Okay, here's the keys to the server" kind of thing, just that there are some people who go so far as to join the organisation, follow the steps, and make it clear that they want to admin while also demonstrating their levelheadedness and fun-oriented attitude. There just aren't that many opportunities to demonstrate your admin-ness in such a small group of gamers, especially if the guy isn't interested so much in what goes on elsewhere in the organisation, only BC2.

I don't get your point about TS vs in game chat. Anyone can go into TS and report a griefer/uncapper by text, I've done it myself many times before I returned to the fold (sorta) and you were the only one that was ever there (thank you very much, btw, you've always been available), but that wouldn't affect the griefer/uncapper in-game...they're definitely not going to be on TS.

I don't seen the need for voice except for scheduled meetings/group discussions. I prefer typing over speaking when it comes to problems that might need a record, anyway.

Personally I love TS , it is instantly heard , not missed in chat . As for giving everybody the " =(eGO)= " tag or the same rights as an admin who does would be a huge mistake , like Beemermarine said , admins need training and experience before they get their wings . We would have had a big mess to clean up a couple of weeks ago if everybody with an e,eG could tban or ban a player , we would have to go back and unban those players and apologize for unnecessarily banning them , a few of our members " thought " someone was cheating or using hacks when they are not , just because they are excellent players and those players have been on our server for years and they would be really offended . I earned my tags / privileges and don't see why someone just joining our community should have the same privileges as myself and others who have put in their time and dedication to our community , that would literally be like joining the army and being a colonel or similar rank .

Another sensitive subject I guess. I'd like to point out that I had my O for a couple of years and it was offered to me without TS participation and only a couple of weeks after I joined...and without me requesting it. I was honoured, frankly, but that soured when the power politics showed its face. You have to bend over and toe the line or you're persona non grata. I rejoined the clan, donated, became a dedicated supporter, and show the "e" because of the game I want to keep playing until it's dead, not because of the fine leadership you find in it. "Don't like it? Drop the "e" and move on" is the answer you'll get.

Look, you guys advertise constantly for admins...constantly...but when someone expresses interest there isn't any organised move to get them qualified and on the field doing the job. Instead it's "Join the clan, get your "e", hang out in TS, make ban requests, and if we deign to notice we'll surprise you at one point with a ban hammer."

That's what it is.

Play first, admin second. We aren't looking for people who's sole goal is to admin. We're looking for fun members who want to be a part of the community, be active and participate. Admining is just something we hope they will fit into over time to help out more.

Those rotating messages that we are looking for admins need to go away, it's very old messaging that doesn't work well anymore...

Very well put Simon , and yes advertising that we need admins needs to go away , it gives a " false " message to players who want to join , if they do , they find out that the cannot admin at all , not very encouraging . As far as game 1st admin 2nd , I must admit I'm on the other side of that coin , if we have perps making life miserable for our players that is my 1st priority , don't know how many times I've timed out in the game because of offenders , and I do not plan to change that . I want everybody on the server to have a good time , that is my #1 goal , 2nd is keep the server populated even if I have to warn some offender a couple of times rather than once , especially if I don't recognize the name , if the guy is a regular and a trouble maker I deal with him/her a bit more strictly because they already know our rules .

Letherfut, I'm sorry to hear that you've been having a negative experience on the server. I can't speak for all admin obviously, however the guys I'm usually in game with ([=(eGO)=] dark_teridon, [=(eGO)=] StellarExtenze, [=(eGO)=] KillShot19, [=(eGO)=] killroylll) and I are immediately on top of issues as they arise. We happen to all use TS, which makes us even more effective since we don't have to scroll through the chat to figure out what's going on. That being said, I'm constantly looking at the chat bar anyway, so if you see me in game and have an issue- do please let me know so I can address it.

All you guys are good at what you do, and you're all ready and willing to jump in when duty calls...I hope nobody thinks I'm saying otherwise...but Letherfut's frustration looks like it comes when you're not on the server, and from feeling mislead about the ad or ignored once he followed it.

I made the suggestion to change the chat advertisement a month ago in this forum...crickets...then in the main "suggestions" forum where I followed the process I was supposed to, and where I was made to feel like I was complaining instead of making a valid suggestion...I believe "bitch" was the word used to describe previous suggestions in that vein. Read the suggestions yourself...if you think that I was commenting on the ability or quality of admins here, read it again. Rest assured that I understand exactly where Letherfut is coming from.

I've said it before and I'll say it again now...this forum should be a place for players to come to get suggestions, find answers, find humour, but what it is instead is just a place to complain and state problems. When Steam posts the game on sale and noobs go looking for a fun place to learn about the game and join a community, this forum probably isn't it. Only a few, like XM, post to share the fun. You'll notice his threads are popular? Then then that's the thing you should advertise.

I know I'm obstinate and a pain...it's the price I pay for being me. Sorry.

Good conversation by all. As for me, as an old fart, I am in the game to play, but often end up babysitting and not getting to play at all. As an admin i see my role as helping the game run smoothly and helping the player have a good time doing their thing. TS is an important part of my Admin role as i see it. lots of conversation with the in game admin. I also get text messages from players who have my cell number asking for help or getting FB messenger messages asking for help. That is my Job as an Admin, helping the game run without as few problem children as possible. I just love getting killed while admining. Everyone has their own way of doing their Admin Duties. As long as you support Edge and the BC2 game, I feel you are doing your job. I am always happy to drop what i am doing, if i can, to enter the game to help out. That is why i give my cell number to select players. "To infinity and Beyond"

Thank you very much for approaching my statement of "I don't want to be an admin anymore" with an attitude of "I'm sorry you feel this way" rather than with a "your loss" attitude that... some other people in this thread seem to have. I really appreciate that sense of compassion. As Tik said, though, you missed the point of my post a bit.

I understand what you're saying, however decisions are not up to me. I have played on servers that autokill players for entering main bases and you can argue how effective it is. Does it ultimately kick players? Yes. Does it act as a deterrence? Not really. I've seen plenty of routine offenders who don't seem to care.

In my opinion it's better to have active in-game admin to handle situations.
