Make CT bans use alive player time

This is essentially a repost of @Dr. DaNk's post, but in the form of a suggestion so hopefully we can get some positive change out of this.

Basically the idea here is that instead of ct bans being ran down by regular time, the proposed change would make it instead use alive player time. There are multiple reasons why I and many other members of the eGO community would like to see this put in.

I will be going over why this should be put in, as well as a response to some of the same counter arguments that I see flung back every time this is suggested.

The Pros:
First and foremost, this would indirectly extend all bans as even for the smallest bans (15 mins) there is never 15 mins in a round so you would never get to perfectly run down the ban. This is very important to note because many Experienced players as well as toxic CT's will simply leave the server after breaking the rules and go have lunch just to comeback and rejoin CT.

This is a problem because it essentially nullifies the entire point of the punishment, which is to punish the user for breaking the rules. If that can be evaded by simply just doing something else then it defeats the purpose of the CT ban.

So then the effect of this would rationally be that people would be less likely to break the rules if they know that they wont have an easy way to get out of it. That in itself would reduce the amount of tedious work admins need to do if players break rules less.

Now, as I was reading Danks post, it seemed people would just echo the same arguments over and over so I will respond to a few here.

"Just server ban them if they are breaking rules that badly"
The issue with this is that there is a grey area between low-tier and mid-tier offenses (such as gunplanting, careless ct, bating etc.) That I think any reasonable member would agree that those offenses are not enough alone to warrant a server ban, but a simple 15 or 30 min ban of non-alive time could also be seen as not enough of a punishment, considering its very easy to work around the ban, that is the reason why so many members have requested that the ban system be changed.

"Not being able to play for x about of time is enough punishment"
The opinion that not being able to play for that amount of time is subjective to that person, same with my own idea that it isnt, so im not really sure to what to say other than opinion noted.

" some people only have limited time to play jb everyday and ur kinda hard locking players when you just ban them but a ctban that is active on and off the server"
No dis but did you even read what you posted (you know who you are). This is essentially excusing rule breaking with the reason that the offending player doesnt personally have enough time to play jb (which is a problem for the player to deal with, not an excuse for breaking rules.) And the fact that the CT bans runs down when your off the server is the entire reason why people are complaining in the first place.

Thank you for reading! Feel free to discuss what you think below!

the point of a ban is to restrict a plyer doing something for a time. it does not dictate what they have to do in the time that the ban is active for. changing it to alive time is a horrible idea, as it's a lot harsher punishment (an accidental 15m freekill swap could end up being over an hour). i don't see any problems with the current system that would be fixed by implementing this

CT ban are stupid imo.

sm_revoke + CT Blacklist was perfect

But, if I'm going to focus on CT Bans, it's fine as it is. This happens pretty infrequently

Additionally, the point of a CT ban is to punish the player and have them not do it again. We want to encourage them to be better CTs, not have them stuck on a team they may not want to play feeling bad

wooo! lets force people to play on T and not rebel so they can play CT again!!!!
If they dont like playing T they shouldnt have broke the rules, and accidental freekills make up a very small amount of the total rule breaks

Care to explain why you feel that way?

I dont know who you are and I cant say I recall seeing you on the JB server. Also if its taking you an hour to be alive as a t, then you might just suck at minigames/playing T and JB might not be the right server choice for you, and if you dont see what will be fixed, feel free do read my post again under the "pros" section.

point of jb is to rebel and kill the cts

i've been playing since 2017. i have about 90 days connection time to the server. i know what i'm talking about. saying an hour is only theoretical, you could be killed very early on every round and then have to sit and wait, jsut to be killed again, while still being banned because you got unlucky.

oh ofc lets force people to play on a team that they don't want to play on because of an ACCIDENTAL freekill

I agree, but It doesnt always have to be though brainless ape rebelling (although it can be done with class just look at carter).

A lot of people seem to forget that you can kill the cts by perusing the round and playing minigames, and then killing them off during lr.

So your redacting your original statement of it taking an hour, and now saying that it could take a while because you get unlucky? Everything can go wrong if your unlucky, thats life.

Did you read my response at all? If not thats alright I can post it again for you " accidental freekills make up a very small amount of the total rule breaks "

Players are swapped because of accidents, anyone who intentionally freekill get server banned. I don't see how forcing someone to play T and be alive for a total of 15 minutes is fair for an accident. There are a limited amount of CTs on jb and this is gonna even make the player count for CTs even lower requiring them to play out their swap time.

I get the point you're trying to make and can agree with some aspects to an extent, however I don't agree fully with having this implemented.

The point of a CT Ban is to keep the player from playing on the CT team for the amount of time the ban is, whether they are on the server, alive, or off the server, the time is being served either way. If someone is consistently and frequently breaking multiple rules as a CT, then further action should be taken to punish that user, whether that means a longer CT ban or a server ban (Admin Discretion).

How it is now is perfectly fine as long as admins continue to do what they are trained to do, no need to over complicate it with a suggestion like this imo.

Alright this thread is getting a little toxic. On a side note I agree that ct bans should be harsher, but I think this is the wrong way to do it. Like Lily said an hour of time is too much for one ban. An alternate solution might be to add 5-10 minutes to every ban. With a 20-25 minute freekill ban most people will get done with their breaks and come back with 5-10 minutes of a ban remaining, a significant amount. But overall this is probably just a minor change and isn't really necessary in the long run. Just my two cents tho...

I would just like to point out a couple of things. CTs can accidentally freekill but that doesn't mean it was truly an accident. It could be a result of careless toxicity (which is more common). This careless toxicity is what makes the idea of alive time CT bans attractive. However, not all CT bans are results of toxicity or even freekilling. And with 30min or 1 hour CT bans that alive time can be quite costly. I think the CT ban system is fine as it is.

I also think it's important to address the source of the problem. Although I am not leadership, I think a good idea is to make CL about your concerns with toxicity on JB with necessary descriptions/evidence of players or even admins.

Listen this is why your whole idea is garbage.

First of all, Like everyone else said, It's gonna force everyone into playing for lr, It's already bad as it is, with people not rebelling but this is just gonna force everyone into playing hella safe.

Second of all it def WILL take 30-hour for people to get unbanned, For example, Your playing vipinthemix, Every round on that map lasts about 2-3 minutes from how fast pace it is, So lets say there's 13 rounds in 1 game, 3x13 = 39 min; But I'll give you one GOOD round where they make lr so, A 8 minute round, 39-8 = 31 minutes.

Also don't say you don't see people on jb when you have 10 connects and like 7 hours xd.
