Field of View

What Field of View (FOV) do you use?

I have mine set at 100, I like being able to see all around me easier. But I know some folks like having it at 75 (I think is the default) and having their attention focused on what's right in front of them.

What's your opinion?

I think it depends on wide screens. If its wide then go big filed of view. Forget what mine is now. Though max was less than 100.

Mine gave me the option of 75-90 when I set it to widescreen. I went with the 90, of course.

I haven't really messed with FOV much.
Wouldn't it distort the image though?

I play in 2 machines, one has a wide screen monitor, the other has a regular 1024x768. A couple of days ago I was playing with the FOV setting and after some die and respawn I set them both to FOV = 90.

The more you see in the screen, the better you can dodge and aim.

The one to benefit more from the change (from 75 to 90) was the 1024x768 screen. At 75 you nearly see nothing coming from the sides so you have to be always turning.

And regarding the distortion, I would say try it for yourself. At 90 FOV things look smaller, so things far away from you look, well, more far away than at 75. And for me that looks good.

But again, the ability to see if somebody is coming from the sides without so much turning is priceless, and improves a lot your game.

Humm, I might play with that setting some. I have it set at default 75. I dodge a lot as it is and if I could see more and dodge more I may need to put on the Hampster Dance while I play.

I would use 90, 75 gives you tunnel vision in TF2.

I never noticed the FOV option... after this thread I widened mine out... VERY nice...

It doesn't make so much of a difference if you're running a widescreen monitor, but putting it to 90 on a standard 4:3 monitor will give you the same view space as someone running 75 on a widescreen.

The fishlense effect isn't really noticable once you get used to it.

I would like as wide as reasonably possible. Unfortunately, I use non wide screen monitor so 90 is as much as I can get.

Yeah I decided to try it out and I like 90 a lot... you can see much more
