Hi all, first I'd like to point out that this has been suggested numerous times before. While this suggestion has been denied previously, I was hoping to re-introduce the suggestion as Valve has further modified how prime in CS:GO works. Similar threads can be found here and here.

As you may know, Valve has modified the prime system to remove the ability to "earn" prime by leveling up to 21. In addition, they have introduced non-prime matchmaking.

I personally am in the belief that having the servers be "prime only" would best prevent unnecessary griefing, hacking, and miscellaneous server disruptions.

The majority of this opinion comes from a similar system in Minecraft. In Minecraft, it is possible to get "cracked" accounts for free. Users can log in with these (free) cracked accounts and join cracked servers. Of course, these servers are generally less popular, less mainstream, and certainly much less secure. The primary difference here is that Valve themselves have built CS:GO for a few years to be free. It's not illegal and it certainly is much more supported.

This being said, I believe (with no real evidence, some statistics would be great here) that preventing non-prime accounts from joining would reduce and discourage the usage of alt accounts and rule breaking. Furthermore, I believe that requiring players to pay for prime would impact a minimal amount of players on eGO, as the large majority of players already have prime. With all of this stated, I think I'd like to summarize the pros and cons of the option. Please let me know your thoughts on this subject.

Pros:
  • Harder to get an alternative account
  • More obstacles to bypass a ban
  • Places value on accounts
Cons:
  • Prevents non-prime users from accessing the server
  • (Potentially) reduces player count

people who only play community servers don’t level up so they won’t be able to get prime. I used to play on a server where they had it for prime only, and it was much smaller than ego. Still we had some dedicated ban evaders who would buy accounts for as cheap as 1-2$ just to join and cause trouble.

I like the thought of the idea, but I honestly think that the con of lowered server population SEVERELY outweighs the pro of preventing ban evaders.
Ban evaders are usually caught pretty early on, and typing "sm_ban xxx 0 Ban Evasion" in console to get rid of them isn't too much of a hassle in my opinion.

Honestly no, having the server only prime will reduce the base player by a lot and that is something executive don't want to happen, and lets be honest just doing "!ban xxx -1 Ban Evasion" is not that hard

Have to agree with sopheyy here, i think that reducing the overall player count and reducing the income of new players outweighs the ban evaders and griefers.
We would have the same amount of old players leaving but a less amount of new players joining. That just doesnt seem like a good deal to me.

I have the same opinion as the 4 above. This is really an interesting idea but unfortunately I think it would hurt the server much more than anything else :/
Like Stirdu said, some players (or even a lot I think) only plays JB or on the EGO servers so they don't level up.
And yeah, anyway, cheaters and ban evaders do not last long on the servers ^^

Can confirm that ban evasion on eGO isn't exactly bread and butter. Not proud of it and I'm still paying for it- spent years trying to ban evade and, when on a VPN, caught in a couple hours and when not on VPN banned nearly instantly. It's handled well as is, while it's an understandable suggestion it wouldn't be worth it. People figure out pretty fast that ban evasion doesn't work. Took my slow brain a little longer.

Imagine using console

I have to agree with the others on this. Prime only servers isn't necessary. Ban evaders are going to ban evade no matter what is done. Its pretty easy to get rid of them unless they are VERY creative.

I mean from my experience on eGO it is true. Servers like JB that always have higher player counts this doesnt apply for. But on other eGO servers like surf where the player count isnt always high, the main focus isnt always on whats best for the server and instead whats best for the player count.

(Potentially) reduces player count
this is the big thing with doing it, in eGO there all about player base. if we dont get new players in then they arent growing, plus id bet over half of the new admins + e tags are non prime users.

No, No and No.
I think the biggest reason this is a bad idea is because of how drastically it will reduce the player count. A lot of people only play cs for community servers and just don't play matchmaking so they have no reason to buy prime or level for it. The number of people that I know that are level 1s in cs and have never played matchmaking before but play on eGO is in the 60s.

I understand the idea behind making ego prime would be to reduce ban evaders like said above people ban evading will just buy cheap accs.

Pros:
Slightly fewer ban evaders

Cons:
less player count
Ban evaders can still buy cheap accounts and join back
Would lose a lot of long time players including admins

In conclusion: No.

I actually support this. While it would be paired with a barrier to entry, it would be worth it. Here is the thing; Prime is meant to specifically combat people coming on alt accountstto cause issues and mess things up

Statistically, Prime is filled with undesirable players. It is very rare to find a respectable gamer in non prime; one who isn't hacking, toxic, griefing, etc. I've tried both sides. It took time, but Valve has done a LOT to filter problem players out.

It (still) doesn't catch everybody, but that's what we have administration for.

By doing this, it would significantly cut down on toxic players, hacking, ban evading, grieifing, and other general rulebreak., as similar to a vac ban, once they are gone, unless they really are dedicated and have a boatload of accounts, they are not coming back. Combine that with VPN detection we already implement, and it just works.

Yes, we'd lose population, but in the long run the population would be of higher quality.

I'm not saying we should only have top teir gamers, but given the current problems facing our community, this would help get those problems dealt with a significant level.

In closing, why not take the free help to make things better in the long run? Eventually population will recover.

+1
