EdgeGamers Community "Ask Me Anything"

I've got a couple questions that'd be lovely to see some insight on them.

a) Why is it, that everyone in eGO that gets banned for things/situations that are a constant issue coming from them (e.g. Someone constantly harassing other members, someone being a racist or baits racism, someone constantly disrupting gameplay in our servers), always seems to get a second chance? Last meeting this was discussed, we were promised less leniency, but I haven't seen that much improvement there as promised.

From what I understand this decision is discussed among Managers (and higher I assume), but the decision sometimes feels unreasonable, considering some people are known rule-breakers, yet they get a freedom pass, once they give out an Oscard-worthy performance on how they will "never" break X,Y rules again, yet are again back on the Contest Ban board, a week or a month later, only to just get their ban reduced if not completely erased.

b) Has it ever been an idea of having "server" specific managers (mainly targetting CS here)?

By that I mean, managers who can focus on their most played servers, and be able to have a better knowledge of the playerbase that plays specific servers only (eg someone who is heavily invested in TTT, so he/she does know which players are rulebreakers or someone who deserves a commendation in order to get admin eventually in the future), unlike the current scheme where there are CS Managers, whereas some of them, hardly even play all of the CS Servers (or any at all nowadays) enough to be able to judge wether someone deserves a second chance at being unbanned or should be commended to be an admin for example.

P.S. Thanks to the managers that still do play on TTT btw <3

Where does EdgeGamers see itself in 5 years? 10? 15?

Was there ever a point in time where you thought eGO was gonna fall apart from an executive perspective?

As someone who use to be a dedicated supporter (I stopped because college has taken over most of my time and money, hahah), how much does EdgeGamers rely on dedicated supporters for income and running the finances we don’t get to see? Do they make up 100% of what EdgeGamers needs to sustain a financially stable community (company?), so we rely on dedicated supporters heavily or does EdgeGamers also have other means of income?

Additionally and unrelated to above, I’m pretty sure I started focusing more of college around the time you became the CEO of EdgeGamers. How has that changed your day to day agenda and tasks as an executive member? How has that change affected you? In other words, do you enjoy being the CEO? Does it take away from playing on our servers at all or is there still a good balance between executive decisions/work and being able to play the games that interest you?

1. Don’t care enough about their job. (Sure it’s volunteer work, but if they don’t want to do it why let them in that position to begin with?)
to put it straight up, most of the time when people get promoted its not their choice its just LE deciding off of a spread sheet that admin trainers/ec's comment on wither the player is good or not and or if he/she is a good player, respectful, and so forth. Like my old promotion, I didn't really want it, I was just a respectful and good player they thought would be a good admin. As well LE will tell you to play over admining cause they don't wanna ruin the experience of playing on the servers. So most of the time when they "don't care enough" they were probably thrown into that position without acutely wanting it and just playing as they would as an e tag. Hope that explanation helped

I think I addressed this best in my previous post.

Are we perfect in this? Hell no. We have a lot of work to do on consistency of not only reports but also bans addressed in Ban Contest and Ban Requests across the community. This is a focus point over the next 3 months to have addressed by the Community Management team and we will partner with the Sr. Managers and Managers to make sure reports and bans are handled consistently across the community as frequently as possible.

To finish things - If you feel that there is an admin who...

1. Don’t care enough about their job. (Sure it’s volunteer work, but if they don’t want to do it why let them in that position to begin with?)
2. Have been reported, but the response to said report comes back with a “we talked to them. It’s been handled.”
3. Simply straight up ignore their responsibilities and let just about anything slide.

...and nothing is being done, you can send a message to your Community Manager & @Arbiter. They're here to support.

This would be completely up to the Community Manager of Counter-Strike to determine how best we need to allocate personnel resources. I do believe that they rely heavily on their Server Specialist functions for many server specific functions. Custom Stats is the expert when it comes to Counter-Strike. If you'd like to know more I would recommend setting up a time to talk to him in Discord.

I will say that our Leaders should be actively "in the know" with the community. Once a leader becomes out of touch with a certain function of our community it's time for them to step down in favor of someone who can represent the player base better. It's the responsibility of Community Managers to have these crucial conversations.

I see EdgeGamers probably in a similar state to which it is now in 5 years. However, as we go farther than that, I see the current state of what we have potentially becoming "the way of the past." Forum software I assume will become obsolete in favor of platforms like Discord or Guilded...or whatever the next best thing that comes along is. We may get to the state many years down the road where we have a website that is purely informational and the forums become obsolete. I could be totally wrong on that guess - who the heck knows what gaming will be like 10+ years from now. We will certainly need to pivot our plans and adapt the the changing landscape of gaming. In the short to mid term, you should see us adopting an approach similar that Overwatch runs on to many of our existing and future games.

Not at all. The team invested in the success of this community are in it for the long haul. The community will not shut down or go anywhere as long as we have anything to do with it. If gaming imploded tomorrow that would be the only thing to shut us down. The Founders, Board of Directors and current "Chiefs" of the community wont let us fall apart. There's a bench of people that can step into powerful positions if there's ever a need to.

EdgeGamers runs on Dedicated Supporters. Typically they pay our month to month bills. If we didn't have Dedicated Supporters we would be screwed and certainly not paying the bills. While we receive credit from ad views here on the forums and on server MOTDs, it's not enough to pay monthly bills. Typically, those payouts go into an emergency fund where if we fall financially short one month from Dedicated Supporter subscriptions, we can fall back on ad intake to still pay the monthly dues. I sincerely appreciate everyone who enrolls in Dedicated Supporter because they keep the lights on.

To address your other question...EdgeGamers at the highest levels becomes a full time job with the time you are required to spend running it. You manage your time by multitasking. While I am playing a game I am frequently doing other things whether it be sitting in on meetings or conversations with Leaders, doing forum work or other "paperwork" and responding to messages on Discord. It's really non-stop. It takes away a lot of game time and you have to learn to say "no" to some items so you can simply play and enjoy a game. Your personal sanity and enjoyment needs to take priority some times whether people like it or not.

I can tell you never been on the much more popular, friendly and full of wonderful admins, our Dust2 server.
Dust2 is an amazing server. The people who play there are intense. Always a fun time.

Do you know how to read? I think you missed the part where I said serious responses only no memes.

Bruh.
I am serious, this is not a meme. Are you saying my music isn't serious?!?!?!
