EdgeGamers Community "Ask Me Anything"

Thank you for the replies. My concern was mostly directed at the way we deal with Contest Bans here at forums, right after we decide to ban someone in-game. Considering we want to maintain a high quality of gameplay across the servers, that means we need to keep players happy.

If we keep giving X amount of "second" chances to people who just live to break the rules (I am not talking about a new player who just doesn't know the rules, but instead, I'm talking about a guy like Treeman for example who needed more than 20-30 bans to eventually get permanently (for now at least) removed from the community. Considering this is the impression we give out to the community, a lot of amazing people have left, because as they said, nothing is being done about rulebreakers, so at the end of the day, eGO loses its healthy portion of the population (and possible revenue on top of it).

b) Has it ever been an idea of having "server" specific managers (mainly targetting CS here)?

This would be completely up to the Community Manager of Counter-Strike to determine how best we need to allocate personnel resources. I do believe that they rely heavily on their Server Specialist functions for many server specific functions. Custom Stats is the expert when it comes to Counter-Strike. If you'd like to know more I would recommend setting up a time to talk to him in Discord.

I will say that our Leaders should be actively "in the know" with the community. Once a leader becomes out of touch with a certain function of our community it's time for them to step down in favor of someone who can represent the player base better. It's the responsibility of Community Managers to have these crucial conversations.

The problem with this is, that some of the Managers (there are some really amazing people that want to put out work in there), don't really seem to bother with dealing with the servers (mainly targetting CS again), because they either don't care, cause they are busy playing other games with other people from the community or they don't play their division they are managing in. (-CS Division Mainly-)

Now I know for one that Custom has also a thousand things to do, so we can't add a lot more of the issues that CS has on a daily basis, hence why the Managers are supposed to be there, but it kinda feels like there's only Custom and a couple more managers instead. The rest either moved on or do not care enough of their spot anymore, which is why I believe server specific managers would be a good idea.

Server specific managers are handpicked managers that work on maintaining a fun enviroment on the servers, which can be achieved by removing toxic or rulebreaking members on the spot, maintaining the server healthy for others. They can also do fun rounds (eg TTT server ones can manipulate things like gravity or auto-bhop and lots more), which will keep things fresh for people, who slowly start to get tired of the maps being there for each of the servers (There is a limit to how many maps you can add if you've played everything). Server specialists are one thing, but also server specialists do not contain that much of power to do such things like a manager can do, hence why the suggestion above.

In any way, thanks for your time. (And sorry for the wall of text)

Forgive me, but I am trying to figure out how adding server specialists will improve the server's environment.
Your description of what a Server Specialist should do sounds like what admins should be doing already.
Other then the ability to unban. Is there anything else a manager can do that an Admin cannot while on the server?

I never mentioned anything about adding Server Specialists (as this is a role/thing already) if you read out what I typed. Now about the second question you asked, I am fairly sure if you have been around the CS servers, you can notice Managers have some more tools than admins do. Some of which can actually make things fun if you ask me.

Ok, Thank you.

I appreciate the honest answers Legend Legend but I do have one more question.

I agree that I truly don't know what's going on behind tech doors and that's fair enough. But why is it that we have no status updates from tech or any other division unless something has been changed? With the lack of community meetings and the one that was about 5 months ago, no one knows what leadership has planned and there are no real announcements except server changelogs. Which might be announced in a Discord announcement channel or in a forum post that gets buried after a couple of days.

If you want people to stop saying "this division does absolutely nothing! dead division!", then why don't we have regular status updates on divisions? Every month or so, show off progress. From where I stand, I don't see much of anything from leadership except promises. I get the everchanging priorities, I get that people have lives, but if I were to promise a big thing and complete change to QoL at my workplace and not deliver or show that I'm working on it, I'd get fired or demoted or what have you.

Why do we not have a consistent status update on divisions for all of us to see? Why are we all just kept in the dark until showtime and given promises?

Bruh what is this division you speak of? I thought that game died ages ago.

You're the one who said Division.
You're right, I'm sorry.

I can answer on behalf of updates and clan wides!
We are currently reworking the structure of clan wides to be more “massive announcement” from the community, things we’ve accomplished, and things we want to accomplish in the next 6 months. From there we want to turn the clan wide more “open discussion”. IE: members have a concern, a suggestion, let’s discuss it openly. Members have identified an issue, lets discuss it.

We are planning a clan wide for September with our new format.
As far as more regular updates go, we will be asking game leaders to host more traditional “share outs”, either through forum threads or voice meetings to keep the community in the loop. This is all a work in progress, but I think come September we will be able to alleviate a lot of these concerns.

Get out of my ask me anything thread. Make your own. Jeez.

Has the Edgegamers higher ups ever thoroughly thought through capitalizing the " cult " like following its servers has? Example could potentially be like making mouse pads or stickers with server based popular memes and what not. Then again I understand if this question is a little too personal in a business stand point, however I could see how some folks support could go above and beyond just a monthly donation.

Side note any thoughts on adding the newer games coming out this year to the supported games section( Battlefield 2042, Tom Clancy's R6 Extraction, Back 4 Blood, Dying Light 2, ) Or even going a step further with older/current games to expand the options such as DayZ? I myself love the game ( DayZ ) and unfortunetly lost nearly all drive to play when I transitioned back to PC from Xbox. I have a feeling it could potentially be a popular hit here if done correctly.

If in wrong correct me.
The fivem server looks and feels like its dieing, especially with the player count declining but it still doesnt seen like any actions are being taken to stop this.

As a player, you talk to others and everybody seens to have reasons as to why they dont play but these issues dont seen to get noticed. Posts get buried and LE its self seens to dismiss items. With an emphasis on seems.

As a fairly long player, ive had this same issue where it takes ages for simple suggestions or topics to be dealth with and if it does get dealt with, we as the playerbase have no input on it until the new idea is released.
Take the old bank payout as example, first it was to low and only after a couple of months it got changed to higher, turned out to be to high and i got changed only again after a couple of months to lower. Whilst nobody got an input on any of the changes. And having a big impact on the economy.

I was really hyped for the long, LONG awaited "update/wipe" of the server because it is finally adding new thinga but for me it just felt like it came to late, and with the whitelist coming along the player count dissapeared.
And even now after this "huge" change, ther server, in my opinion, is dying harder than before.
It got released with a ton of bugs, left out things, and unadded things which should and couls have been discovered.

In the end what killed my expierence the most is after all my hours of playing, seeding, helping. No one bothers to ask what players like me, the dedicated playerbase, want or think about certain topics like the updates, changes, declining player count, whitelist etc.
We have a pretty good amount of expierence and knowledge on the server and its playerbase, in some cases even more than some of our leadership. But it seems like LE is to embarrased to ask for help or insight.

This kinda sums up my roughly 3 years of thoughts, written on phone so apologies for my grammar and writing. I could go into specifics on server scripts but this doesnt seem the right place.
Thanks in advance

why are updates always delayed they announced an csgo jb update on 17th July saying it will be out within a week. seems like they never get released when they said they would

When the community leaders push an update they dont update just a single server all of the CSGO servers get an update in waves, IMO I think thats a poor choice but there are some positives to it.

Are you sure? I've seen many single server updates
