My dear pal ezcheese started a discussion about toxicity among new players in the thread below: https://www.edgegamers.com/threads/381505/#post-3378013
His main point is that there has been a large increase in new players to the server that are getting increasingly toxic. I’ve noticed a lot of this myself, there are a lot of ct mains who hardly know the rules and constantly get ct banned for easily avoidable things like fk(s) and server dis. I would say most of these cts are brand new server members. When a new player joins the server they are all put into a confusing game with weird and hard to follow rules. And when they inevitably accidentally 1. Break the rule from lack of understanding, 2. Fail on games that are made intentionally difficult even for experienced veterans, or
3. Just generally confused on anything really. They are killed by toxic CT’s who will shoot them for taking one step out of line. These new players are instantly taken out of the fun or enjoyment and are forced to sit and watch for up to 9 minutes. This is really when one of three things happen 1. They leave the server and never return, 2. They commit to learn the rules and the game or 3. Which I think happens all the time is they take they’re anger and confusion out by joining the ct team and torturing other players the way they were treated when they joined.

I think the first is the most common and a lot of non toxic casual players decide that they would rather spend their time with something they enjoy instead of learning something new that is difficult and confusing. But from personal experience, when I joined the server ct was a lot more appealing because I knew that I wouldn’t be unfairly killed for something I accidentally did, or I didn’t have to play the difficult games and probably the biggest was almost the idea of being in control of other people. When they took one step out of line I acted like they way I was treated when I joined the server toxically. It is so easy to be toxic but what people don’t think is that when you kill someone over something completely useless you as a ct never see the reproduction (unless that is a kill or action that breaks the rules.) But on the other side of the table a person who is new or who barily did anything wrong is now sitting out and has lost they’re enjoyment over really nothing.

So what is my grand point in all this, I believe the server should do one of two things.
1 and the least likely, a beginner friendly alt server that can be used to help new players learn the rules and how to play jailbreak in a non toxic with non toxic ct’s
And 2. Stricter rulers on CT’s and a longer time to get priority que. Until something changes there will be a self perpetuating system of new players joining and either quitting because of Extreme toxicity or joining the problem and becoming the toxic undereducated CT’s.

TLDR: Sorry if that was long but basically I believe the server is stuck in a loop of new players joining and being bullied off the server. The small percentage that stay often become the toxic CT’s. It’s the idea of bully’s being bullied in the past.

Thank you for taking time to read and have a great day:)

Idk from my point of view as a semi old player it's not actually that toxic, yes there are a select few who are very toxic that I've come to know especially since becoming an eG and having to deal with em but they eventually leave or get banned. The server constantly changes and for this moment it might just seem toxic but overall I don't think it's that bad

(I remember when I started playing a man of many names most prominently "simplordcuck69696969" was has to be the most toxic player I've ever seen the current player don't even come close to him)

Yeah I understand what you mean, but don’t you agree that that small group can and does very easily deter and prevent players from staying on they server. And that they can create the system of those who are “bullied” becoming the bullies. I get it is gonna be a problem for just about any community, but I feel like addressing it could really improve the community and make joining more accessible.

if you see someone who is being bullied, reach out to them, report the players who are bullying others especially those whove been here for a while and know the rules, toxicity happens because people let it slide,

I understand where you are coming from and not wanting CTs to be toxic is a very valid concern that I personally appreciate (see this similar post I made about 3 years ago). I firmly stand by these words even to this day, and I highly encourage anyone who plays CT regularly to keep this in the back of their mind while playing.

That being said, EGO wants new players to have a chance to learn both teams properly (CT has certain restrictions for obvious reasons, but not to where actually playing it will take ages of being a T). To put it as simply as I can, punishing people who haven't even done anything wrong yet is not the way to go about it. The way things are currently, admins can utilize admin discretion towards players they think are being toxic enough to where it is disrupting the gameplay for others. If you as a player and/or member take notice to this, report it in admin chat and hopefully someone is willing/able to take action. Also, another remedy to toxicity from the CT side may be on the roadmap soon, so if you support these ideals I encourage providing an input to this suggestion, which is to increase the length of CT bans and possibly CT blacklist repeat-offender CTs for things like server dis/free-killing/griefing/etc.

My first JB experience is like you said, not knowing anything and immediately being shot for I have no idea why. It was confusing/annoying/frustrating at first, but I grew off of those frustrations as a player, and did my best to get better at the game and knowing the rules well enough to where I wasn't always getting killed/swapped and all that other stuff. Truth is that people just have their preference, some people want things to be easy, some want dark-souls level difficulty, but no matter what the game mode will never be to everyone's taste. All we can do as a community is do our best to make it as enjoyable as possible for those who choose to play. Next time you think someone is being overly-toxic, don't be afraid to use the @ symbol and let the admins know to watch that player. I'm a firm believer in people getting what they deserve, but in order for action to be taken by admins, they first have to know what's going on, so again I highly encourage the use of admin chat the moment you have concerns about the way in which another player is conducting themselves.

All in all, thank you for taking the time to share these concerns and I'll continue doing what I can to help support them. Have a good rest of your day!

The best way to deal with a toxic player is to continue to treat them as if they weren't being toxic and continue being generous and see how they continue to react. If they are still hexing your vibe then maybe it's time for you to bring that issue up privately with an admin.

Honestly the best way is to have longer ban times for CT's if they are constantly breaking the rules that would just be hard to keep track of however for the admins unless there was a more automatic way of keeping track of ct bans.

the biggest was almost the idea of being in control of other people.

nah it's been worse, i think it's just there has been a huge increase of new players and a big departure of the ones who've played in the past. a community shift
idk i've got bored of jb like 20 times, and when u come back it's a whole new community of people.

This post is something that I've noticed going on for a while now, and something I've strived to improve on our server. I love JB and want people to enjoy it whether they are new to the server or seasoned veterans. What people dont notice is: we frequently have new players that don't understand the rules, post questions in chat that get ignored, and get punished for something that isn't explained to them. The worst thing about JB is when you do something wrong, get punished for it and don't understand why you died. It's too often I see an unfamiliar name get killed and immediately leave the server.

Us "regulars" have gone through the process of learning the rules the hard way just like they are -- We were all new to JB at some time and didn't understand the rules or what is going on. We've all been killed for some reason and not known why. The way we learned is the same way others are learning. But...

What I believe needs to happen is this. It should be the responsibility of all long standing members of the community to welcome new players. Answer their questions and help them when they need help. Explain why they died if they ask. The reason why @Jacko is one of the best admins on JB is because he actually cares about this and is an advocate on helping new people and building the community. When there's that 1 guy the doesnt know how to crouch-jump, he makes an effort to help him. Now just think if we could have even 5 more people like that.

TLDR: Be a nice person and help new players. Its that simple.

I agree with that. There was a new player once who quit because he pushed a button as a T and got me killed so an admin banned him for a week even though I told him it was okay and there was no need to ban him since he didn't know the rules.

In my opinion, the entire JB community distances themselves from new players (except a select few, ily Blutzer Blutzer ). This includes players and admins. Most new players, especially those who don't immediately run to the forums and join the community, don't end up sticking around, because they think of JB as a one off server and not an actual population of players.

I've noticed this especially with younger players. Most young players join the server and leave because they don't feel wanted or safe in the community. Any time a young, new player talks, it's very rare for 10 people to not !down them, when they're generally good people that just want to have fun playing games. I can't say the same for myself, I joined this community when I was 15 and I'm still as immature as I was back then. However, most players aren't that type of person. Good examples of this principle are 1rish and hiri. Both of them were, and are, pretty young players, yet they've found their place within their community, even after constant ridicule because of their age or voice. The issue mainly, in my opinion, is that both these players stayed around because they found friends to play the server with, and that is something that most new, young players cannot find.

The current status of wanting to play eGO JB is based on a lottery. Some players will win the lottery and find some friends that encourage them to keep playing. Most won't.

I believe the solution to this issue is less admin intervention when it comes to minute¹ infractions such as that of which was told above this message by orphan orphan ², and for JB as a game to be less about RP interaction, and more about skill in the game of CS:GO³.

Thank you for reading.

1: Referring to the adjective of minute, defined on google as "extremely small."
2: To new players*
3: This is probably a bad take, lmk in replies.

Edit: I've seen an ungodly amount of admin intervention for barely anything, this is not a good way for JB to spiral, saw like 10 ppl leave once a dude got punished.

Well said, I do think it’s hard for younger players to find their footing and really just about anything, since there’s a negative stigma behind young children and their “cringness.” That being said a lot of times they are cringe there are a lot of notable players like this such as super samurai, Phantom of the leaf, mort, awesomeegse, and acidity lol. I think awesome and sabo now are both genuinely good community members who have gotten over that old reputation. But for everyone else there’s nothing that can really be done to help them except for them growing themselves. That is why The server is so desperately in need of more members like Jacko and butzer, Who genuinely care about the well-being of other members of the community; and promote a less toxic more inclusive community.

"sabo ... genuinely good community member" 😂

things have improved since i played and plus if you see someone being toxic just report them

This is so true. A lot of us older players leave around the same time "bc we all know each other" and then when we come back its a different group of players. Unfortunately less and less people want to become admin bc of certain rules put in by certain people. I can personally say that it is way more toxic now than a year ago imo and it won't change unless certain people change.
