Alright, eGO. We have a problem. A big problem.
It's starting to appear that DuckDastardly was RIGHT about rotation servers. I know, I know, Duck is always right about everything, and darn it, I for one can't take anymore!
So here's the problem: The new rotation server is bombing...big time. I come in during prime hours, and I see all the servers sitting at a nice 30+ number (32 for most). Then I see the rotation server has 12 players!!!! 12!!!!!!
Now servers come and go. Sometimes maps that used to be awesome grow a little old, and aren't as much fun as they were, and the server changes to a new awesome map. That's to be expected.
However, in this case, if we let this server die, we PROVE DUCK RIGHT YET AGAIN!!!!
So I propose a eGO wide movement to prove Duck wrong by FILLING THE ROTATION SERVER! And then, we keep it full!
Here the thing about servers. They reach a critical point, usually around 16 players depending on the server. Once they reach that point, they pretty much fill themselves. So please, when you start your night's play, pop into the rotation server and help it reach critical mass!

Yes please prove me and the rest of the eGO leaders wrong about rotation servers. I really like that server but if we cant keep it going then yes it will disappear and rotations will be a thing of the past again with eGO.

BTW, that sticky wasnt originally written by me, I copy/pasted it from the old site before it was lost since I couldnt find the original post to sticky up.

Really? I thought the rotation server was doing fairly well. During the evenings and into late at night, it's had a healthy number of people on. I've been on some nights where, except for maybe 2Fort and Dustbowl, it's been the only server that's had anyone on it.

If it isn't doing great, it might not be the fact of that it's a rotation server, but what's on the rotation. I've really noticed some maps don't have as much of a draw as others. Badwater seems to be a good example of this. Last night, the server cleared out when it changed to that map. Perhaps there just isn't enough interest in Badwater to have two servers with it up at once.

The fortunate thing is there are a lot of things that can be tried with the Rotation server before we give it the boot. I think lowering the RTV percentage will help a lot, for one. It could also be changed where there is no set "nextmap", but that players can vote on what comes next. I believe it's even possible to set it up so where you can have players vote for maps that aren't even in the basic rotation.

Perhaps a few map changes are in order? I'd love to see stronghold on there!

no custom maps are going to be put on the rotation servers.

As for RTV, its been lowered from 70% to 55% needed to start it.

As for the maps, I think it varies which ones seem to empty it out. I have seen Badwater take it from half empty to full and seen dustbowl empty it out. So not really sure what to say there.

I like the server but I cant think of anything to make is more wanted by people if i think of anything you will all be the first to know!!!!

There is a custom map in the rotation today: cp_canyon.

are you sure it wastn RTV'd in? or that maybe someone with Rcon slapped it up on the server for a bit?

What I was told last night was no customs would be in the rotation, even though there are some that are on the server, they arent in that rotation of 5 or 6 maps.(there are like 50 maps in the map list for that server)

When I did RTV last night (I was the only person on the server), the only maps that came up were the ones in the rotation. Someone could've nominated it, maybe? I wasn't aware you could nominate maps not in the rotation.

I'll see if it comes up in the rotation again later.

Yeah its a good server. I'll try to get more people in it. I think it'll start getting pack, just need to give it some time. ;)

If we did add customs, my vote would be for falling_cp. But since your not, ill try to help keep it not empty.

What if in addition to the rtv we had players vote on next map? I've seen servers that when the current map gets down to about 2 minutes, it has everybody vote on what's next. Of course we decide what choices they have, but that might help.

The 24/7 servers offer something special... the rotation server is kind of lack luster... maybe if it rotated between some custom (yet popular to limit d/l time) maps, it would stay full... but I think the base to the non-rotating server is a great idea... I like knowing "what is next" :)

In my opinion, I think I see the most dip in players when the modes drastically change. What I mean is players who join to play CTF are more likely to leave if another CTF map doesn't come up in the swap, or Attack/Defense capture maps like Gravel Pit or Dustbowl are more likely to lose players when something like Goldrush comes up.

Just something I've noticed.

I for one really like the rotation. It lets me try out maps that not everyone runs anymore. I find it hard to get on a good Gravelpit or Granery server, or even Hydro. I totally forgot they had a CTF Well version and I really enjoyed that map when I played it on the rotation.

This is something that has been discussed, and I believe Garden is looking in how to set it up.

I think this is a great idea. I suspect most people join a certain server because of a specific map (hence the success of 24/7 servers), and leave because they've overplayed the new map. Voting on the map might help keep the majority.

Just thought I'd update this. I never saw the map come up again yesterday, so it must've been someone with the rcon.

I tried nominating different maps, but couldn't get it to work though. When you type "nominate" it just brings up the 6 servers in rotation for you to choose from. Being able to select one of the other maps might not be working properly (or I may just be doing it wrong.)

I play on the rotation server a lot, and about 70% of the time I see it chock-full of players.

I play the rotation server mainly for Gravel Pit because it's my favorite map ;D

Fastlane is pretty fun also.

The rotation server player levels have been kind of weird. Sometimes its got more players than some of our main servers, but sometimes it just totally bombs. And, when I've played, it hasn't been like "Oh crap, its <insert map here> again, I'm outta here."

I agree with foxhound's point about drastically changing game modes. I might suggest knocking payload maps out of the rotation, as the payload mindset is very different from that of ctf or cp.

I love the rotation server and I play on it whenever I can. I like being able to play on maps that aren't popular enough to warrant a 24/7 server.
