Why 32 player servers?

in my opinion there is nothing better than a full 32 player server...especially warpath and Black Mesa... Mesa being on the...well i would say "larger" maps..being multi lvled and vent system and whatnot...it's truly a perfect map for all classes...if you ever feel crowded in a 32 player server...hop on over to Black Mesa..at any given time you can have 3 or 4 players on each side on "A" point...4 or 5 people on "C" point trying to cap that after "A"...its just nuts...try it out if you haven't......

hello my Name is Jugg...and i am a Black Mesa addict.

Spy's my favorite class and on small maps with 32 players, playing spy is not an easy thing to do but at least I have tons of sentries to sap:D.

Sometimes I get frustrated on 32 player servers when I'm being Mr. Engineer because I still only get one level 3 sentry gun to hold off the hordes.

But I can't think of a single class I play where I'd prefer to have less people around. Especially Pyro and Spy and Heavy... higher density means more likely to multikill in one fell swoop.

Spy can get frustrating on 32 player maps but it can also make it easier for you.

You can definitly get more kills when you walk into the enemy base and see 4-5 people. Although if your un-lucky you won't last as long.

I disagree; I think spying on full 32 player maps is wicked. There have been a few times where the entire enemy team is lined up to take the intel (I'm thinking turbine here, around the corner from the crooked hall) and I just stab them all. it's pretty wicked, all told :D

I would like to try (probably not keep) something like a 40 player server, like in CS:S. that said, that probably wouldn't work for TF2 as well.

I secretly would like 1 hour on an 80 man server. 40 players to a team... on a small map... with lots of fire and rockets.

I suspect it's also sort of a bang for our buck thing too. This is a total guess, but I'd imagine that the load on a server for a 24 man server is not 3/4 of the load a 32 man server generates. So we can have more people playing and enjoying our servers on the same equipment by running 32 man limits than if we had 24 man limits.

For some reason, I completely stink when the server isn't full. I can only play well when it's 16 on 16.

From a design perspective a larger server is best if the teams are not equal..one man down on a 16 player team has less of an impact than a 12 man team.

I designed blackmesa as a 32 player map..most valve maps were designed for 24 player..

which should now make sense for those that have played a majority of the maps

32-24= 8 more players I can spam. 8 more players killed by my spam= 33% more fun for me compared to a 24 player server.

Also as a side note, the thing about # of players in a server and server rankings...

32 player servers are awesome. We've all played on smaller servers, the intensity just doesn't seem to be there. Even on BlackMesa, when it's not full, the impact of mayhem just quite isn't there (still fun of course)...I prefer full servers!! :D

32 is the way to go. Unless you're practicing for some reduced-number league play, it's the larger servers in online games that attract the people. It's been that way since the old TFC days.
