Far Cry 2

I love Far Cry 2 so far. It runs better than Crysis at the same graphical level. So, as a rule of thumb, if you can run Crysis you can run FC2.

I like the PC version better. I can't imagine all of those hectic firefights with two joysticks... I luvs my mouse.

I've played for many hours and its great. It's kinda annoying to clear the same damn outpost for the umpteenth time on the way to a mission.

I thought the AI was supposed to be good? I'm playing on normal setting and I can run into an outpost with my machete and kill everyone.

On second thought, maybe I'm just awesome?

How is the multiplayer?

Just got finished playing a couple matches of deathmatch, and it's pretty fun. There were no people in any of the servers for the other gametypes or else I would've tried those as DM isn't fun for very long in any game.

I can't imagine a lot of things working on a controller, there's just a lot of different buttons. I've also heard that the checkpoint system sucks in the console version, apparently you can only save at safehouses and in building checkpoints are gone and you can't quicksave. That just does NOT work in a game that's 50 square miles big.

I've put in about an hour. The missions are so far pretty varied and the AI is just ok. The graphics are pretty damn good so is the sound design. Character design is just meh and so is the gun play.

Overall from what I've seen I say its worth the $50 on Steam. Havn't tried multiplayer yet, but I think the community will really start going in a few months.

Mines done and Ive played it a bunch already.

Its ALOT different from the first Far Cry but very fun! I can run pretty much everything on very/ultra high with 1280X1024 resolution (running on geforce 8600GTS, 4 gig ram, intel core 2 duo 3.0ghz)

Great game though, all the effects and features are great, I would reccomend gettin it if you havent already :P

Nice setup. :)

Played for 15 minutes last night. In that time span I got sick, caught up in a massive fire fight, pulled a bullet out of my arm..WITH MY TEETH, fixed a car, crashed said car, killed some random people and started a massive fire.

I love the fact that I can finally buy a brand new game open the options and put everything on very high.

This may sound stupid but i just bought the game off steam and i cant find my SERIAL code.

The unlockrequest code is just sitting right there.

Help?

right click on the game in the steam games menu, you should see an option to view your serial code, then you can copy it the clipboard directly and just paste it in.

I canceled my pre order due to "too many games I want to buy this fall/winter but not enough money and/or time to play them" problem.

It seems a good game, but I think I gonna wait for a few more days for Fallout 3 instead. I think I will eventually rent or buy when it is cheap enough though. Maybe, will see guys in a fictional Africa nation next spring.

Huskies, I gotta say, Fallout 3 looks very appealing as well (I have it on preorder also) but from what I have played so far of Far Cry 2, it is a completely different FPS experience than anything you have played before. If you are into the open world/sandbox type of game, this is for you.

So...this is Far Cry 2 ??? No leaning (yup no more peeking around corners) No prone (hello sniping??), No switching firing modes (single shot, burst and auto. fyi.) No 3rd person view of vehicles while inside them. No binoculars. Errrr last time I checked we all had these features in the first Far Cry (2004). Oh I see what's going on this was "dumbed" down for the console crowd. So much for being built with the PC in mind. One step forward, two steps back. Seriously why has Ubisoft Montreal removed features that worked just fine for the first game? It's a shame. Great now I feel old, like an old timer reliving the good 'ol days.:) *waits for mods* /end rant.

Oh well. Screenshot time:

Well Section 9 I believe at least two of those things can be somewhat explained.

The lack of prone can be attributed to the more gory healing system. I've noticed that while crouched the nifty little sequence appear very limited. Was removal of prone the best solution? Probably not. I do thoroughly enjoy this healing system. So if I have to sacrifice prone, and another key to keep track of, I can live with that. I'll also point out that sniping is strangely steady regardless of stance. Depending on your preferences this can be a good or bad thing. I put it on the loss of immersion list.

The loss of 3rd person while driving. First off I'll say I don't recall that in the first Far Cry. Secondly it was said time after time by the developers that this game was going to be in first person and would do it's best to stay there as much as possible. Hence the lack of 'teleportation' from position to position in a vehicle and ,more on topic, first person driving only.

As for the lack of leaning this would appear to be a 'Whoops! Forgot that one!". But I have put in a good deal of time and have yet to find myself in need of leaning or prone for that matter.

Lastly. I do wish people would quit blaming consoles for lack of features in a game. I'll point out that COD4 includes proning and the like across all platforms. And this game is wildly popular among console and PC gamers alike even this long after it's release. So if console gamers are apparently so inept as to require 'dumbing down' why does one of the most popular games include all of this elements? Before you go screaming 'HALO 3'. I'll say what has been said and is probably pretty obvious. Halo is no longer king of the mountain. The not so epic story lost many of those actually interested in the story of MC and the multi player aspect seems to be inferior to that of COD4 in the eyes of many gamers. (Top Seller last year? Not Halo 3)

*Disclaimer time. All my views expressed concerning the opinons of 'the gamers' are based solely on conversations I have had with my ever increasing group of gaming friends which includes both hardcore and casual gamers. With that I'd like to think it is a good representation of the general consensus. I do know I can not truly speak for 'the gamer' so I may be way off with this whole big deal.

hey BlackMesaSouth I just realized that I played in a match with you last night Deathscythe84 is what I play under

Also keep in mind Section 9 that Crytek created the first FarCry and was only published by Ubisoft so the Crytek developers were the ones who had ideas of prone and leaning plus that year consoles were not nessecarily big and we were still in the first gen of the consoles as they call the xbox 360 and ps3 and wii nex gen. FarCry 2 isn't created by crytek and more obviously you know that Ubisoft Montreal developed this one because Crytek is in EA's hands now as you see with "Crysis" and with that being, the Ubisoft developers who are pretty console friendly developers believe that the way they made the game is what will make people buy it simple controls, good gameplay and pretty good graphics, Not so much of a story but something worth playing to see what happens at the end. Yeah you want hard core games but they still have the everyday group of people who won't play the game for a while then want to go back and play it and be able to pick up the controls easily again and I should mention the simplicity of the map editor program that any novice can pick up.

The only thing that downs me again is no voice chat and I kind of came into the game expecting there wouldn't be so I was not totally dissapointed.

Far Cry 2 actually does have binoculars. If you press 5 to go to the map thing and then (if I remember correctly) right click, there you go. Of course, I don't really use them because of the lack of a "lock-on" system like in Far Cry or Crysis, but honestly I think it doesn't hurt that much. Plus, with the lack of a HUD it definitely allows for better immersion.

You're correct about the vehicles not having the option to switch between 1st and 3rd person in this Far Cry (the first one had the option by pressing something like = key), but honestly I don't mind it. I was prepared to REALLY hate the vehicles controls in this one as much as I did in the first game and in Crysis... But I'm actually really impressed with the vehicles. They managed to blend having easy control and turning with "not feeling like you're on ice". And, unlike Crysis, the vehicles are actually pretty useful for driving, rather than being moving turrets.

The only thing I could say that I sorta dislike is that if you don't keep to the roads, you end up in a ditch, which makes sense and certainly shows the purpose of roads... But a little more off-road friendliness wouldn't be bad.

Playing FarCry2 reminds me of the last bit of Half-Life 2 Episode 2. I don't know why they bothered calling this Farcry. It really doesn't feel anything like what Crytek would have made.
