So, maybe some of you guys have seen me around on the CSS servers we have. Either way, that doesn't matter. :p

So I've been trying out DoD on-and-off since I've gotten it late September/early October, and I swear it's the hardest game ever.

Some things I've noticed:
- Gun recoil is really high.
- People are harder to spot than in CSS.
- Hitboxes are way better than in CSS.
- Noticeably harder than TF2 (initially, at least).

I'd like to get better at this game, so if someone could give me some tips (better being like, maybe being able to maintain a 0.5 kill-death ratio), that would be great. So far, I've played on (in no particular order): Kalt, Strand, Donner, and Avalanche, and have been random'ing my class every time.

Well, you could try and specialize at first, for which I recommend either the Support (Number three, BAR or STG44) or the Assault (Number 2, Tommy or MP42).
And, as you see an enemy, immediately crouch down, it lowers your profile, so you're harder to hit, and you gain accuracy.

I seen =(eGO)=snipa in kalt the other day and i had never seen him befor so i went to identify him and it said he didnt have admin so i thought he was a impersonater because in the DoD side there is a guy name =(eG)=SN!PA so i was getting ready to question him and w/e and he told me hes was from CSS. :p:p:p

Thanks for the very useful addition to this thread... lol

Definitely pick a class and stick with it until you get better at the game in general. If you like the AK in CSS, pick support. If you like the lighter rifles, try assult (mp40 or thompson). I personally like rifleman, but you have to have your shots on target or they still get you.

This is from the writers forum. It's a DoD Guide by Amaranthuse of the Foriegn Legion
http://www.edgegamers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=19359

Some things to note that newbies miss:
Use your grenades.
Expand your map to see if a section needs cleared out. (Before using your grenades. Oops! lol)
Going prone greatly reduces recoil. When using a high recoil weapon aim at their feet and let the recoil walk the shots up to their head.
When using sniper, machine gun or rocket consider switching to a backup weapon as you move from place to place.
Jump around corners. Shoot on the way down. It's hard to hit someone who is not where you expect them to be.
Rush through sniper zones.
Listen to your teammates. Back them up. Winning teams communicate. Winning teams work as teams. DoD does not lend itself to deathmatch tactics.

I would recommend using the Assault in general, since with the update it got a helluva lot more accurate :)

Yeah no friendly fire on any of our servers so throw those grenades! A tip for grenades, throw it straight down, pick it up with the 'use' key (not sure what default is) .. count to 4 and throw it! That way when it bounces in front of the enemy they'll have no time to escape. Also if a grenade falls at your feet, chances are you dont have to run away, just pick it up and throw it back - one of the things that make this game great IMHO. You can get a lot of kills from well timed/placed grenades.

Thanks for the tips guys; I tried support and got some nice results. The recoil kills, though...

On Axis the K98 rifle you can move sometimes while shooting and still kill unlike css. For the allies get the garand rifle and pull the rifle nade out shoot at walkk hit E to pick it up and rush bridge on kaltthrow it and kaboom but you only have 3 seconds to throw it!

Actually, you can 'prime' names just by holding the fire button until you are ready to throw them. Just don't hold them too long. :)

And as someone else said, you can fire a rifle nade into a wall and hit the use key (E by default) to it up, then fire to throw it. You can also throw back enemy nades by picking them up (E). While this doesn't work if the nade pops before you can get rid of it, its YOUR nade after you pick it up, so it will only kill you, not teammates (I've saved my mg or sniper by trying to throw a nade back ... and I even killed a guy with his own nade just after he started dominating me: kills me, gets domination, then his nade that i threw back pops, killing him and getting me revenge; can't do THAT in CS ;).

Well that's news to me! I didn't know you can just hold the button down to prime .... I'm old school still I guess ...

Yea another great team play tip krenshala

its YOUR nade after you pick it up, so it will only kill you, not teammates

Jump on those grenades! Save your brothers!

i got use to the game in few day
just keep playing it and it will be easy
find a hiding spot with a michine gun lol.... my trick

I play on Donner mostly and Avalanche. Assault is probably the easiest to learn. I think the biggest issue for CS players to DoD is that they pop-shoot way to much. I like to just bum rush guys with an assault class. usually you won't get past them all but I can get a 2:1 if not better ratio doing that everytime.

The most misused item i see in the game is Smoke nades. Don't throw them where your running it screws you as much as it screws them. Throw it between you and the enemy so that you can get past a group without entering the smoke. best example is when playing axis on Donner throw the smoke near the ruins and then run to their sniper house, that always equals punched to death snipers.

My only tip:

Use your map, if you see someone get killed near a flag, run there asap
