Well here is yet another update on my build. I made another thread or 2 about this a couple months ago but I thought I'd just update some people on what my my new machine that I will be building. If you guys have some input or recommendations that would be really helpful as well. The thing different about this build compared to my past posts is that its Corei7 and this time I actually have money saved up for it this time! I got myself around $800, so almost there. Just another month or 2 and she's all mine, can't wait. The subtotal is around $1,400  If anyone says I don't need a Corei7 system and a Core2Quad system would be just fine, I'll punch you in the face. :p Besides, this build compared to my older Core2Quad wish list is only around $200

I know some are going to say that this PSU is overkill but its what I want. Maybe something Ill get 2 4870x2s or get more hardware. Besides, this is an awesome PSU and I've had my heart set on it for a while now.

On that board I'm getting I only would have enough room for a PCI-E sound card above the first PCI-Ex16 slot there. If I where to get 2 4870x2s which I plan I would have to get rid of the card. From Auzentech's site I only saw 2 PCI-E cards and they aren't exactly what I want. Same with M-Audio on newegg, no PCI-E cards.

hey wall-e, whats the diff between the i7 & ur current quad core cpu?? u seem 2 be shellin out over a grand every year. ne reason 4 that?? also if u have ne left over parts that ur not gonna give 2 a friend or relative, im sure either myself or another ego member will be more than happy 2 take em off ur hands!! (j/k)

I don't have a Core2Quad system o_O I was saying how its only a $200 difference from my Core2Quad wish list. Im riding an old ass AMD 5200+ dual-core, M2N32-SLI Deluxe mobo (not even PCI-Ex16 2.0), a 160GB 8MB cache main drive, and a 320 8mb cache IDE storage drive. Im giving this machine to my bro after I build my new one.

yeah, its a very nice build.

One day, ill have something like that... but for now ill have to stick with whatever ill be getting within the next month

I have two comments on this:

1) Get the Gigabyte Mobo :) That thing looks sweet.
2) RAID: I highly recommend RAID 1 for your data. the Mobo can natively handle it. That means two drives for your data and 1 for your active / system partition.

Looks sick!

/jealous

The quad system I built last year is still pretty sweet though :)

I know what RAID is and I was thinking about doing RAID1. Get myself 3 of those drives, one for main and 2 in RAID1 for reliability storage. Still not sure yet.

I notice you're getting the non-extreme version of the same mobo that I got, the same CPU and the same CPU cooler. - :D
Don't forget Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste, its the best on the market right now.

I have AC5 on my list already, just didn't post it. I would get the extreme one the optional north bridge heatsink takes up the PCI-Ex4 slot and thats where I would be putting the sound card. I would put it in the PCI-Ex1 slot but from the looks of it a sound card wouldnt fit in because the north bridge heatsink looks like it would be to tall so a card wouldnt fit.

I'd say go for the Foxconn mobo....

Gigabyte's usually overclock better, but Foxconn's last MUCH longer ;)

Games (Crysis, Fallout 3, COD:WAW, COD:MW, GRID, Farcry 2, and source games) and everyday things (Surfing web, photoshop, burning CDs, and watching movies)

yeah, I'll be looking forward to seeing the build too. Wall-E, be sure to post lots of pics like I did. :D.

Get the foxconn. Remeber, it looks alot better then the gigabyte, and you're getting a see through case! ^_~
