Stats and Server Ranking

I'm just curious if anybody keeps up with their ranking on eGO servers, as Ive been trying to even out my overall kill to death ratio. I've been playing on eGO servers since i bought The Orange Box, and i was REALLY bad when I started. I'm within about 500 of breaking even (seems like alot but i have 18k + kills!)and find myself checking alot. Does anybody keep up with theirs?

Not really, but I remember checking out my stats once and found out that I'm on the losing team 60-70% of the time (i forget exactly) and felt bad about it :X

I used to be in the top 100, slacked out and just had fun for a few months, then dropped down to the 200's. I think I'm at 30k points with rank 180 now

I just keep track of my K/D. Paying attention to points too much just ruins the game for me.

I agree. Checking the scoreboard repeatedly kind of sucks the fun out of the game. It makes it hard to keep up with whats going on.

I also only keep track of my KDR... Generally if you want points, the best class is definately engineer. 5 points per structure built! Unreal!

I check pretty often, if only to look at my KDR.
I've slowly been going up in ranking though. :3
Just broke 15k points, and my KDR is .73 (it was around .4 when I started )

Yeah i'm always checking my k/d, i will check my points every once and a while just to see how i'm doing

i usually don't keep up with my k/d ratio, but i'll usually type rank in team chat right after i die to see how many points i lost.

I actually do pay attention the the rankings, I am very competitive, always trying to achieve goals like wanna reach 100.000 points, better kdr or battle to catch up to black_hand

but the higher you get, the more frustrating it is when there is a lucky crit or suicide pyro...

Im only in the top 900 or so and i've noticed how many points i lose when a lower ranked player kills me. I cant imagine how much you top 100 guys lose!

Im also fairly certain that black_hand is a machine sent from the future to humble and destroy anyone foolish enough to face him.

Well...I can easily say that getting killed by a starting player can pretty much lose 40 points, if I am killed with a melee weapon I am very sad since then the points will be x 3.5 usually. Usuaully I lose 25 points if I am killed.

But black_hand is an amazing player, the sole reason why I wanted to become good at being a demoman, but when you are a demo, you need the support of a good medic, (black_hand is sometimes my med, I am sometimes his, lizard, moretti all good medics wich I play a lot with)

to demonstrate how it works with the points.

Killer Points = Killer Points + (Victim Points / Killer Points)
? Weapon Modifier ? 5

Victim Points = Victim Points - (Victim Points / Killer Points)
? Weapon Modifier ? 5

so if I am killed by black_hand (102.000 points) by pipe remote, I will lose 96.987 / 102.000 x 1.4 x 5 = 6.7 = 7 points.

if I am killed by a person with 20.000 points and an ubersaw it is
96.987/20.000 x 3.5 x 5 = 85 points lost

so don't kill me with melee weapons...else I will be very angry and will hunt you down

I believe points lost are capped at 25 with only a few exceptions:

I think you lose more for being "finished off" because it seems to still count the -5 or whatever for suicide + normal lost points.

If your sentry kills a teammate you obviously lose 50 points.

If an enemy is damaged by you then joins your team you lose 50 points.

Personally I think points lost need to come WAY down. Right now things are stacked way in favor of playing on warpath or blackmesa, even though your probability of dying to a random crit is pretty much the same on any map.

I hate when that happens.. It shouldn't count as teamkilling.

I usually don't look, but when I do I say to myself: "Oh wow, a pretty nice score." But yeah, I try to perform as best as I can, no matter what.
