The past couple of times I played in the Black Mesa server were abhorrent. Both teams were lolligagging around, not accomplishing their objectives. I know we are here to have fun, but also win maps. This has not been the case. Furthermore, it has been admins (both eG and eGO) doing the lolligagging. I have brought this to their attention and was dismissed each time. I really like eGO servers, but this has gotten out of hand. I would like to hear some feedback on this or at least an acknowledgment that something needs to be done.

I was gonna write a lengthy response about how to win or lose Blackmesa, but I came to the sudden realization.

Spawn Control.

And also, some people just come into our servers just to kill people and not cap points etc, I think this is fine imo, but you can't really force anyone to actually cap if they don't want to. It seems wrong in my eyes.

I play Black Mesa pretty frequently, and I'd say that sometimes there are teams on that server that are focused on winning (and they win, when they coordinate well), and sometimes there are teams composed of players just having fun. And both are fine.

FWIW, I think Black Mesa is a great map to play on if you just feel like freestyling with a spy or a pyro rather than working really hard to win with your team. Health is liberally scattered around the map so it's pretty easy just to run around and kill enemies and have a good time.

Personally, I play Black Mesa when I'm feeling a little tired out from hard-core teamplay (on extremely linear goal-oriented maps like Dustbowl I feel compelled to play medic (offense)/engy (defense) almost exclusively, since those are the classes that are both really necessary to help teams win, and are often in short supply). It's nice to jump on Black Mesa and run around back-stabbing people after an hour and a half medicking on Dustbowl, ya know?

I sometimes play different maps than dustbowl, but I have no idea what or where I am going, so I will be just running around walking to the wrong points and killing people.

I feel ok with that, maybe a lot of others just don't know the map well enough in blackmesa

I agree that most of the time people do meet objectives, while having fun. But I feel like it is the responsibility of the admins to make sure that people are at least killing people and not hitting the wall with their shovel for 20 minutes because someone's spray is that of a bunny with a pancake on its head (very funny btw). That seems inappropriate IMO.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you on this issue. The servers are there for one reason only, and that's so that people can play on them and "HAVE FUN!"

Now admittedly, if some heavy is standing in front of a resupply closet shooting off endless rounds of ammo just so he can get an achievement, that's not acceptable. On the flipside of that, me and another eGO member once met in the center of the map as heavies, got out our sandviches, and started eating them in front of each other (also known as a Sandvich Fight.) Did it accomplish anything? No. Did we have fun doing it? Yes... it was hilarious!

Being able to have friends that you can goof around with on servers is probably the most enjoyable thing that I can think of about this clan. I've been in several clans where it was the rule that "We won't have fun unless we're winning." What's the fun in that?!?!?!?

Basically, as long as you're not breaking the rules, you should be free to have fun on the eGO servers as you wish.

All love for you brother, but you should try and enjoy the servers for what they are. Not everyone is going to get on the servers for serious fragging. There are plenty of hardcore gaming servers out there, and eGO has plenty of those types of servers too.... Blackmesa, being a custom map w/ the ability to rape the crap out of the opposing team's spawn, isn't one of them. It's my favorite server because it is usually one of the most laid back map servers in eGO's library.

That's my 2 cents. :)

its a game whoopi doo there are gonna be times where people screw off and do nothing. as stated its a game get over it and play. complaining about how people screw off isnt gonna fix it or make it any better. if ya dont like how people and dawdling around and twiddling their thumbs 1 say something about it to the people that are messing it up for everyone. 2 get an admin to say somthing. and 3 last but not least of all your options if there are no admins to straighten out the ones that cant play, go get one. also if your the one thats gonna say something do it politely and not all harsh where the less mature players will mouth off and make the situation worse to the point where the admins have to start kicking and banning .

it is clear that we need to make sure that people are in a way ''productive'' or helping the team, but we cannot force the players to actually cap all the points and win the game. In my experience (I play alot on blackmesa), people seems to have a really good time while playing and try to do their best to win the game. I've never seen a game where people just wanted to hang around and do nothing. But yeah, I agree that in some way people should do their part to help their team :)

Yay for mad's speech-a-ma-jigga-ma-thingy!

I for one, don't really try to cap all the points, but I would if my team need help or if it is nearby.

But really, think about it for a moment, TF2 is just a game right? The entire objective of buying a new game is not to do exactly what you HAVE to do, it's about doing whatever you want and having fun at that! (Seriously, I would go brahmin tipping all day on Fallout 3 and love it)

But overall, lighten up a little, and remember kids...

ONLY YOU CAN STOP FOREST FIRES!

I don't know, the servers are there to have fun. I always play to win (even though half the time I'm doing the wrong thing, but it's not from lack of effort!) . But every once in a while having a really fun only melee round or 2 is awesome.

chocozumo ur mental, and i thought we wernt going to talk about the fires any more. its wasn't me it was the hadoken gone wrong :D

I play Mesa a lot a i find that it is one of my favourite maps becasue you can just chill out and have some fun and not be allabout the objective. I pretty much second what has been said already and personally, there are many other more hardcore games and servers out theere where you can be all focused on winning. If that is how you get your kicks, then Black Mesa TF2 is not teh game for you.

Final point rests that as long as the player is active and not trying to ruin anyone else's fun, he can play however he wants, not only should admins let them play how they want, telling someone to play how you think they should in any situation regardless of authority is just plain bad taste.

If you are more serious than your teammates about completeing objectives, try to rally them yourself, an admin should not have to do this for you. Ask (NOT TELL) them to do certain things, i.e. holding a point or some other task, if they don't, let it go, try to find someone more willing. And if all this gets on your nerves so bad that you are willing to be complacent, that is the time when you need to maybe just take a break in general. Pop a chill pill, drink a coke, just relax. Then come back when you are ready to try rallying once more or see if auto-balance has worked it's devious magic (though this is unreliable as the auto-balance has a sick sense of humor, i swear it knows the worst times to switch me.)

I have to disagree with you. It is the admins responsibility to uphold the rules; not to force people to play the game a specific way.

Regarding this, it is not a rule that a person can't hit a spray for 20 minutes. It may be useless to the team as a whole, but they want to play that way, and so be it. If they're AFK and using a script or something to do that, the admins should intervene, but if they're doing that just because... well, I guess they can do that. I know this seems stupid, but individual playing styles can be individual playing styles, and I don't think that admins should intervene with them, no matter how stupid they can seem to be.

I personally think that when I join a server and my team is messing around, i join the other team and rolostomp them. I think most people hate to loose and once they have been beaten in 30 seconds a couple of time then will either leave the server or deside to play the game.
Another side of the coin is sometimes when some seems like they are messing around they are working really working hard at winning. There are three aspect of TF2; Offense, Defense, and Point Control (different from defense, trust me). A pyro running the same small path in a base may actually be spy checking. So one persons screwing around is another person strategic placement. if you know what I mean.

as bob said there are many elements to tf2 that are needed to create a successful team. you might just not notice that what some one is doing is actually helping the team overall.

But I feel like it is the responsibility of the admins to make sure that people are at least killing people and not hitting the wall with their shovel for 20 minutes

We admins have no responsibility there, trust me I've seen many things already where I think the players are just mental cases...

- A blue scout running in the red base saying he is red....
- A heavy boxing his way through an immense rain of pipes, going for the sentrygun lv 3 over and over again.
- people who decided tauntkilling was the only way to kill people

this list will go on and on.

But at long as they play the game and are out of spawn, and not afk somewhere in the map, we can't touch them, just give them helpful advice what they should do, but it is all up to them to follow the advice.

Unfortunantly for BlackMesa, a lot of the time both teams are stuck in an endless loop of doing everything that isn't the objective.

Unless if I've got a group of friends with me (because 1 or 2 people can't take and hold all the points) I'll give up on the objectives if my entire team has. If we're steamrolling them 2 rounds in a row though I'll tend to just prowl around A and make sure we don't lose it until the enemy team gets their act together. Though if I have a few people playing on my team that I know I can organize with, its back to obliterating points. Substitute multiple people for one Dave if hes there.

Wintermute and I always try to Finger stab people as a heavy

Sure, having fun is a great part of ego, and why NOT build 3 sentires in the same place? Or waste an uber punching people? I'll tell you.

There are people who play tf2 with more than an ounce of seriousness. No, not reptile or TheDl. More like TheZaw and Baumer. I don't appreciate people coming into the game im playing and wasting a slot on the server that a more serious player could fill. To me, i'd rather have a complete newb player in a server than someone who wastes a slot goofing around.
But im pretty lax abotu what i feel goofing around is, and generally our great admins deal with what i do think goofing around is (trapping ppl with teles, blocking sentries with dispenesers, 6 sentries in the water, etc.).

Baumer, add me to friends so we can whine and moan together about the lolligaggers :D.
