(I posted this in another thread originally, but felt it was topical enough to get it's own.)
I think everyone upset about this new Scout weapon being able to stun ubers is looking at everything the wrong way.
The scout, as is, really isn't as useful in most situations as other classes. Nor does he have any specialty beyond running.
Specialties like lingering fire damage, sappers, long range precision, etc. The scout is great for capturing flags, sure, but that's only one game mode.
Now, especially after giving up the right to a double jump, I say being able to stop ubers would be the kind of class feature boost the scout needed. He's still weak and small, the stun might not last more than a few moments, or he can easily just -miss- the uber'd target, but he has the ability to counteract an uber for the team just like spies can counter buildings and medics counter fire and damage and the likes.
It won't make ubers useless. That's just a silly conclusion. There usually aren't too many scouts per map as is and not all of them will have this weapon or live to stun the uber or...even be around. Might be on the other side of the map.
Sure it might suck to get your uber countered, but it also sucks having an uber rush in and ruin all your stuff. Now there's at least a small chance for a counterattack.
I mean, in comparison, it's not even all that scary. Not like the flare gun that can ignite you from across the map, or the ubersaw that fills a medic's uber in just four hits, or the sandvich that can bring a heavy down from one hit point all the way to full health with no outside help.. A little stun isn't all that bad now is it? I'm glad to see them pull out a bran new trick. Don't we want things to stay new and fresh and exciting in this game? Bring on the new tricks.
At least, that's how I see it.
P.S. Also, the medic could just let go and uber a different target.
