What made you guys get better?

All things are difficult before they are easy.

It's not my quote, but it's true for everything in life.

Practice, practice, practice. 50 hours isn't nearly enough ;)

I'd say 20-30 hours a week. Atleast I know a large majority of our Dustbowl regulars are around there.

I think I hit 20-30 hours a week easily, if I stay in the weekend near my pc it might get even higher.

Yet...everytime I am on Galkafisher is on too, he is really racking up massive amounts of time on our servers, but it is the only way to get even better.

Have around 290 hours as a demoman, yet still not perfected the way of playing it, it takes so much time, you just need to practise

Ok, I'll correct myself. If you look at the top players who have lives outside of TF2 you'll probably find that they play 10-20 hours a week.

I was probably in the 30-40 hr per week when I was unemployed this fall. I remember there was a time when BigSqueaks was on Dustbowl at least 50-60 hours a week.:O

But point being, my skill went up a lot when I was playing a lot, and I think you'll find the same will result for you. Whether it's a fair trade off is something you can decide.

Don't let the numbers fool you, the only important part of playing TF2 is disconnecting with a smile on your face and the knowledge that you helped other people have fun, too. It's all about attitude. Experience will help you to lead team to more wins, but the most memorable teams I've been on were the ones where we were inches away from crushing defeat the entire time and managed to pull it off --just barely-- by working together as a team. Individual skill, which is mostly a matter of experience and a nice computer, will get your name to the top of the list. It won't make you feel as if the time online was well spent. The best part about this fact is that you are in complete control of your attitude. :)

I am not a good player. I am a TF2 noob. I have less than 9 hours in the game. I suspect even when I am no longer a noob I will not be a good player. First Person Shooters are not my life. Still I shall give you some advice.

I was on Dust Bowl and someone suggested I go someplace. I said I didn't know the map. They replied that I didn't know anything. They were right but it was still a cruel thing to say.

Later I was on 2Fort trying to learn the engineering trade. Some one suggested that my sentry could be better placed. I said I was a noob and they took the time to show me exactly where to place my dispenser and my sentry. No cat calls, no sneers, just good advice. It was great.

My advice. Get in the game and tell people you're a noob and ask for help. Ignore the cruel ones and befriend the helpful ones. If you don't get any offers for help play the game and ask another day.

Also, have fun. No one cares how many times you die. No one cares how many kills you make. The game is still fun if you don't get caught up in the points thing.

here's some advice.

run in front of my gun :)

haha jk

like everyone says, time, effort, and looking at all the videos on the classes.
just youtube "how to play ___"

It says most points, I don't think you actually killed 20 people as a medic, then you would be hardcore if you did ;)

I think i found my class

MEDIC

Check out my attachment

20 kills in 1 life

best ive ever done

Points does not equal kills.

You get one point per 2 assists, which you would get if you were healing at the time of the kill. You get 1 point per kill, but you being a medic, probably got alot of assists.

And yes, medic is a good class to start with. You basically follow people around, and and just do what they do, and you'll pick up little things with a lot of support around you.

If you can stay alive long enough for 20 points as a Medic, I'd say you've got a great start. You actually get points for healing people and you can almost never have "too many" medics on a team. :)

This game is all about being able to out-smart people... and working together, You CANNOT expect to dominate a team alone. You have to work together with your team and stratagize... One of the very few FPS' that do that now-a-days...

I've seen many people go into a CS:S server and dominate an entire team by themselves you cant do that in TF2... So don't forget to communicate with your team, and work together at all costs... Self-sacrafise can also work at times so that other survive like running the opposite direction of a medic when you know hes close to a charge and distract so that he dosent die and your team gets the charge off.

Always remember these tips because your score carries over from round to round simply because you have a high death count or high points dosen't mean your the best player on the server, it simply means you've been on for a long time.

TEAM FORTRESS IS ABOUT TEAM WORK..

After that you want to concentrate on out-smarting people, getting to know the maps etc. Like Sentury placement, or Medic Survival, or Stickying a roof instead of the floor where you know they wont check or if they do its too late ;)

When starting out try to look at it from that perspective and you and your team will go a long way.

pick a friend who is good at a certain class and keep voice chat on with them in steam. Have them play medic and play whatever class you want to get better at. Have them constantly tell you what to do while you play. this way not only do you have help on-hand, you have more time to do it (a medic) and will understand a lot of the things that player looks for.

Also, I'm sure this goes for many people on here, but I'd love to help you out. Add me as a friend on STEAM and I'll assist you in any way I can.

sorry bout the kills mistake

Yes finding a friend who's good at a class is a good idea

Goes to my friends list

*looks*

Trying different thecniques each times and when there is one you really pwn with it, you practice it!

Move a lot

Don't rush blindly in

hmm....what else

keep a medic close by

and...umm...dodge if possible.

That's about as good as I get. You just have to get used to all of them.

Well it depends on your class really.

If you are a medic you are top priority dont be afraid to ditch someone who is going to rush in and die.

And if you are a sniper stay back and dont get hit, aim for their heads.

Heavies get a lot out of health packs, they are % based so dont be afraid to run back and come for round 2, just cause you are a big russian guy you arent indestructible.

Just stay alive, heal yourself, play it safe, land your attacks on the opposiing players.

I got better by playing a long, long time on many different games. Stick with it. Your skills will naturally progress. Plus you will hit skill milestones throughout your gaming career where you discover new playing techniques (sometimes by accident).

Stay with it and have fun!
