Is the Huntsman Awesome?

Its great and then its not great. Accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. More often than not the flight path of the arrow is terribly unpredictable. You wouldnt be able to make the same shot twice in some situations.

I just got the huntsman yesterday and only played with it for an hour or two, but I like it. It seems to be more luck than anything when I kill people, but it's a bit like demo nade spamming, just keep on firing till ya hit something. :D I love it.

You're holding the arrow drawn for too long. After 5 seconds or so, the arrow's path is skewed. Hold it for no more than 3-4 seconds and you're golden. You can hit whatever you aim at.

:-/ Just so you know guys, the longer you hold the bow back the better the chance for it to go off course. It's called overdraw. The sniper is having a hard time holding the bow back so he shakes causing it to fire off course. When used right the bow is VERY accurate. The only thing stopping it from hitting directly in the crosshairs is trajectory. So... Take aim with the huntsman, and shoot right when it is at full power or VERY shortly after. The best way to do is fast weapon swap between the bow and another weapon, so you are constantly pulling it to full and not holding it there. Then aim at or slightly above the head depending on the distance of the shot, and let it fly. I am a big fan of the huntsman, and you can ask some people who have played with me since I've gotten it, I am VERY accurate with it.

You can stop holding the arrow by pressing right click. That's quite helpful. Pyros can light up your arrows and you can press right click so you aren't a slug anymore. :)

I couldn't tell you. I've played and idled for over 50 hours and still don't have it.

It's like the Ambassador (rewarding players for being a good shot) only about 100x better, due to the fact that it's A WOODEN RECURVE BOW in a game full of guns and explosives. And, you can light it on fire.

At the moment, right clicking with the bow to reset your draw will put out the flame, but if you use Q to switch to another weapon it will reset the draw without removing the flame.

They're probably fixing this, though.

Sorry to go against the grain here..

But I think it's rubbish.

I played with it for a while and I am by far better with the regular sniper rifle.

It's fun to play with but for serious head shotting play - there's no contest between it and the rifle. At least for me.

I enjoy my role of sitting back picking off heads and am usually quite good at it.

It ain't broken, don't fix it ;)

It's great, and it brings a whole new need for strategy for the sniper.

Plus, I can pretend I'm greatest Olympic archer ever. That's right, my personal hero, the gold medalist himself who captured the world's attention... Legolas.

And when you pin some guy to the wall, the corpse's face still twitches and the eyes move around.

If you were a really good sniper to begin with this is rubbish!

However since boby shots with the bow aren't to be ashamed of, mediocre snipers like me find it better for getting kills

imo

I never got the hang of the sniper rifle, but I CLEAN UP with the Huntsman.

Those of you who still have difficulty aiming, treat it like a rocket or flare. Leading shots is essential, even when the enemy gets close.

That said, my sniper kill count skyrocketed with this thing. My favorite activity is nailing a charging pyro with a fully charged arrow, then killing him with the kukri in a single swipe just as he gets in range. Sure, I'm on fire, but I sure aint dead.

Favorite activity #2 is flanking sniper nests and putting a quick arrow in every scrub sniper that is still peering down his scope. Bonus points if they're pinned to the wall in largely the same area, like a collection of macabre wall hangings.

Only used it on my bro's account. Close range against unsuspecting classes? Awesome. Long range in a sniper-duel? You're toast if the other guy's still using the sniper rifle and knows you're there :P

Which is why I still <3 my good 'ol rifle. I still wanna find the huntsman so I can go battle-sniper if I need too, but support sniper's better with the rifle. :P

I haven't tried it (unlockables are hard to get) but I'm excited to use it once I do get it.

personally i find it has some issues with hitboxes >.> i dont have it yet but a sniper was looking the other direction, im still cloaked and he is'nt looking anywhere near me...suddonly i have an arrow sticking out of my chest...

and its annoying when an arrow takes me from 125 to 0 health in one shot >.> and i was'nt even what he was aiming at
