My Review on Furnace

I played Furnace yesterday for probably around an hour, and I just wanted to share my opinions on Furnace, the new eGO server.

At first I saw the layout, and thought of Gravelpit, and tried my classic scout Gravelpit strategy. However, as I played more, I noticed it was less and less like Gravelpit (and a lot better IMO). It seems to be less room between points, and a much better layout for defending, and a lot easier to defend than Gravelpit, but in the same aspect, a lot easier to play offense. The map really focuses less on defending with sentries, and more with miniguns and rockets.

If you haven't gone into the server to play it yet, check out 174.37.160.63:27015.

Feel free to share your comments, and a little more than "It was fun." ;)

I'll always love Gravel Pit more than anything. I played this map last night, if by "played" you mean running around as a Scout all alone just checking out the map while on auto-join for PL. I haven't actually tried it so I don't know yet.

after playing it for an hour i kinda like it more than gravel pit. id probobly play there more if we had more people on the server though.

I think I like the aesthetic of Furnace more. Maybe because its still "new" to my eyes, but I really like the look of the place.

Furnace needs love!

Furnace is a really fun map and its close to comparison with Gravel Pit. Since it is just a red version of gravel pit but because its a map we didn't play before, we can't really predict what someone would do to approach you

OK, and how would you explain the sentry farm that made Swiss cheese out of my team last night :)??? But as for the offense, I agree. There are a lot of opportunities for flanking the enemy team. It's a pretty fun map but Blackmesa will always be my favourite.

after playing for a while, i thought it was fun. but blackmessa and 2fort are still my favs

That's why you thought it was easy to attack, sentrys are hell on this map. I really do love it though, it taught me how to play Soldier in two days. It really is just a flipped gravel pit, but who cares, its a great map.

I played it for a couple of hours... like it better the gravelpit, a bit confusing at first but after a while you get into it. For those who didn't play this map yet highly recomend :P

Well while it is a good map it still needs polish to truly overcome gravelpit in my eyes. For instance the A and B areas are around medium to small size, but yet the map still feels really long.

Also B is very very hard to attack. The CP is on a bottom level and surrounded by a higher platform which gives defenders an attacking advantage. When you take the bottom left route ,under the ramp, you arrive at a sweet spot where you basically have a wall that covers most of your body while still providing you an amazing spot to spam down on B. Add that to the fact that the only medkits (from what I saw) are up on the platform!

I can't really tell much about the map yet...
But I did play it a little and I noticed that it is similar to gravelpit in that there are some good sticky/rocket jump spots. Although gravelpit uses height a lot more in the map, it's still pretty good for a custom map. Also, it seemed like a pretty good map for scouts. I can see heavies on offense having trouble with this map, may be wrong though.

Though I agree with above, the map does need more polish.

I wont play the map. I miss Jail. I woke up to see Random gone and replaced with Jail. At first I thought it was just another map. Well I was wrong. After playing it in the morning I took notice of details the map had. Not visually either. The map had two instances. One inside the Jail where the cell blocks were and the other outside. The big thing that I liked about the map was it works for both low amount of players and full server. I was in vent talking with mad pistol, pyro girl, zergs, DJSW, and others about the map. Once they hopped on it was 4v4 along with other players and the games were quick. Not one sided steam roll but wins and losses on both teams so it was fun. Well when the server started getting packed with more players the games lasted longer and were even more exciting that before. It sort of reminded me of Mesa but without the map being so big you need everyone to go scout when there was a low population of players.

After playing in the morning then coming home from work at night I see its gone I got upset. I went into furnace to see what it was llike but no one was in the server. Hmmm I wonder why.....
