I very highly disagree with mandatory meetings. There are already meetings at times and I'm sure even those are hard to organize.
Quotas, disagree. I'm sure all admins are doing their jobs, or they would not be there. To fill a quota, one would have to be on during many times, devoting far too much time. Sometimes there are lots of troublemakers, sometimes none. It depends on timing.
Application process: agree that applicants should be aware of obligations before being accepted. Disagree on interviews, because that would scare off members.
Disagree on thoughts about promotions. You do have to attend a class for G, but you must also be brought up for promotion before you run through the class.
Vent: Agreed on being far too messy, but I'm adapting.

Making a recruit read the rules AND acknowledge them before they're let in would be good. Getting rid of afk channel in vent would also help. I don't see why they should be taking a spot if they're not there.

It's so they don't place false activity in the real rooms; and for the people too lazy to click disconnect/connect.

I dont like any of it. eGO is run fine the way it is, Its been running for years and no real probs insight, leave it alone and lets get back to gaming after all this is why we are all here. Have fun and enjoy the great community that we have. Why people always want to try and fix something when it's not broken is beyond me

It always seems to me that everyone, or almost everyone... has an agenda. The agenda here seems pretty clear.

I have said from the very beginning of my time here that meetings are an absolute MUST, so that leadership are able to gather and invoke or enforce new rules, policies, etc., so that the rest of the clan can adhere to them. I have said from the beginning that the clan needs to know where we are financially so that we do not plummet to the ground, but have been told that..."We shouldn't have these meetings because they somehow cause turmoil"......

So as far as mandatory meetings. Make them happen!!!! If the leadership is unwilling to comply with this, or unwilling to be there for the challenges that face us. Simply, fade them out. There is far too much work that needs to be done, to have these tasks fall on the leadership that is giving so much to the clan, therefore burning them out. It?s a vicious cycle of feeling like you?re doing most of the work, and then finding yourself burnt out.

I have been on this clan for many moons, and I can tell you right now that I haven't heard from many people in leadership. Why is that? Why are DL's, Advisors, sitting in channels disengaging from new recruits ( not all of them of course)? Wouldn't that be almost a......"isn't it your responsibility to guide these new recruits so that they're able to give their 100% to the clan and community? Where are the Manager's to lay the smack down on these people, when they fall out of line in conjunction with their responsibility as a leader?

Back in the day when I ran "many vents", and ran a clan that ran top tier status in old school Raven Shield, BF series, DF series and so forth......I would have to agree with you on the many different channels that segregate players from each other and moreover endorse the perception of "clique". With that said, the only thing that will EVER endorse camaraderie is going to take place within the game, or on a personal level. So in essence. Making vent more "personable", could be more rewarding for our clan , but would have to be closely monitored so that people don't feel 'ran out', or feel as if they're being harrassed by other people within the community. Sometimes - - - I just dont' feel like to be bothered, so......in a matter of factly........It's PARAMOUNT that people within the community have the ability to "hide" within a channel and talk amongst a fellow friends without being bothered, ?annoyed?, or trapped where peeps are talking about how a 727 was apprehended by UFO?s and was later shotdown by a secret organization, only to find that the secret organization was somehow affiliated to EGO. One way or another ? I don?t want to hear it, so I?ll run out of the channel as fast as I can.

As far as the recruiting process goes. You said it as I would have said it. I do believe that the process of ?approving? every single person that comes here and allowing them to put the =(e)= tag on, is very shallow. Why not ?interview? that person, find out WHY they?re joining, what they look to gain by joining, and most importantly, what they?re willing to give back to the clan. From experience in being here, I can?t even count how many times an app has been approved, to see that person on a couple of occasions, and then disappear entirely.

Quotas: I again, have to agree with this. I only can speak for myself. When I ran clans in the past, I can?t even put in words how much time I spent communicating with my clanmates, building rapport, and dedicating my time with recruiting, website building/maintaining, forum moderation, and making myself available to everyone. I have ALWAYS had an open door policy, and have never came off condescending or ?better? than my new recruit, or for that matter hid 90% of the time in a locked vent channel. In a matter of fact, I have always concluded with my clan that?.?Hey, if you feel that I?m doing something wrong, please bring me aside and let's yap it out?. So realistically, I have ALWAYS felt as a leader that I to, am replaceable. It's my job to prove to the clan that I have deserve my position as a leader.

With that said, and the way that the upper echelon of the clan has been built, it would be up to those people to somehow measure who is doing what, and to what degree.

quatas are not going to work they will cause more problems than good and it gives the wrong impression about why we do things like kick and ban. it is no ones job to kick or ban it is there job to really maintain a good environment in a server and keep it as a place where people want to play kicks and bans are just some tools to deal with some issues and should come after educating new players.

mandatory meetings is also a no go let me see i have collage and works and sometimes i will spend up to a week in the studio without coming home im sure my case is extream but people have commitments and life's outside of this any thing really important should be posted somewhere on the web preferably in text for people to read when they have time that they want to give to the community. and that this is not supposed to be a job what i believe the goal of ego is to provide a good environment for people to play and talk about there games with i dont game that much anymore but i joined ego because i wanted a good place to game where i don't have to put up with bs when i actually do fire up a game.

oh and i know my postes are kinda wall o textish and most people wont read the whole thing so someone can pull points or summarize if they want

@antispawn

i agree with parts of your vent concept of using less rooms to make more of a community which i think is good but i think there needs to be a good balance of rooms because with lots of rooms people with common interest's can split of and talk about that with out boring other people.

example like if im talking about my music stuff from collage with some other music majors like mad pistal and pyro im sure most people in vent would be bored listing to it because it is a topic that doesn't interest them and the way to really get to know people is find what you have in common and discuss it.

Well i like the lower and clean up the vent, i search for 20 minutes sometimes just for a certain room to chill and its annoying.

On another note, The Idea of having like a test ingame like on our event server, have like some members come in, and act out a scene that is pre made, and have that member that is supposed to be getting promoted deal with the solution, and give him like 3 scenarious, and then at the end let the testing admin and 2 council members go over and talk about it and then decide if he is ready to be promoted or not.

Also The application process, yes i think having a sit down with the applicant, and have them answer some specific questions get to know them a little bit and all.

Thats just my .2 Cents thrown in :)

I like everything he posted, except the vent part. If there is anything that needs "fixing" it's NOT vent.

However, vent rooms were brought up in the last meeting ON vent, and there has been some rearrangement already. Nothing life-changing though.

I like the idea of testing for higher levels of admin. It could require studying and/or training which would not only show that the -e- rank had the knowledge, but the devotion to go through the training process in the first place. I agree that the admins need a uniform code to follow, and the know-how to do it. That is similar to what I do on my CS 1.6 server. Also, about the meetings: I think they could work out, but they would have to take place over several days. To give an example, I will tell you about what I do for my server. Basically I have an Admin Forum that only admins can read and respond to. I make a post for each topic of the meeting and people reply and talk about it over a couple days. Still, everyone doesn't always make it, but I get almost everyone's two cents in the process. Then once the discussion is done and everyone is happy, I can decide what to do.. or how to rule. Hope that helps...

First - Mandatory Meetings - Not a good idea sorry. Real Life keeps lots of people busy, it wouldn't work. We come when we can.

Second - Quota's- Quotas for what? The few comments on the first page indicate that the quotas are for bans, but the original message doesn't specify what these quotas are for. I don't know what the PM'er was getting at here. My guess is bans or apps, and making people get a certain amount a month just doesn't seem to fly with what the original purpose of this clan is - to run family friendly servers for everyone. We don't need a set number of bans or apps each month to do that.

Third - Application Process - I completely disagree with the message. The system does not need to be re-worked at all. Keep in mind I applied 2 years ago, and all the things that are "slapped" on after you are accepted were in stickied forums that said "READ THIS FIRST." I knew darn well what I was getting into before I applied, not after. If someone doesn't read those first, as instructed, that's their own fault. The people who join just to join and don't really uphold the ideals of this clan get weeded out pretty quickly.

Fourth - Promotion Process - Last I knew, someone didn't get a G just because they attended admin school. They got a G because they got noticed by a higher ranking member who thinks they represent this clan and have what it takes to handle the responsibilities of admin in our servers. Do some bad apples get through? Perhaps, but they always get weeded out; every guy that got full admin that shouldn't have has lost it as far as I know. I think the the council, leadership, division leaders, and advisers set up a system that works, works well and doesn't need to be changed. If anything, the interview process that the PM'er suggest for applications should happen here at this level, if it needed to happen at all.

Fifth - If I had any suggestion here it would be that I agree we have too many general rooms. Other than that though, the way its being done is fine. A channel for each game server is a necessity, I would not want to be in a channel playing dod Kalt with fellow members who are playing in our avalanche or donner server. It would be too confusing. Maybe we could trim up the channels that we have for games that aren't "clan official." I.E. take away the WoW channel, Runescape channel, Company of Heroes channel, ect, and just have 5-6 "Misc. Games" channels. I don't think that needs to happen though, I really don't have a problem with how the VENT is run now and if it stays the way it is that's fine with me.

In conclusion, I think it's great that leadership take messages like this seriously and consider them, even opening up and asking the clan for public feedback when its needed. It's good to look at the system you have in place, evaluate it and make sure it is running the way you want it to. Ultimately, I think this community is great. The term that comes to mind is "If it's not broke, don't fix it." It is my full opinion that the way the clan is being run right now is not broke and doesn't need to be fixed.

I mean no disrespect to the anonymous user that sent this PM, but I think his/her perception of how things are done around here is wrong. Leadership does a phenomenal job, doesn't get enough credit for it, and shouldn't be wrestling with a message that suggests they are not doing their job right.

Here are my thoughts on each subject:

-Mandatory Meetings: I like the idea of having everyone up to date with the newest rules and happenings, however this is not possible since getting EVERYONE to come on one day at a certain time would be chaos. I think instead, there should be a single meeting and it should be recorded. Once recorded, it would be posted online which would require members of a certain rank (i.e. eGO's and above for some meetings, eG's and above for others, ect.) to listen to the recorded meetings before they are able to use their admin in-game. Or something along these lines.

-Quotas: I like the idea of everyone trying to be more dedicated to helping eGO grow into a better community, but the bottom line is that many members have very stressful and time consuming lives outside of our gaming community that would not allow them to dedicate "work" in their fun-time. Maybe we could reward those who are able to do some amount of work with some extra admin powers or some medal on the forums, however I dont think it is fair to see some people as less than able to handle eG or eGO status because they aren't able to work more.

-Application Process: I agree that the application process should give the rules and regulations prior to accepting the applicant, which is why the START HERE Tab was created. That way the applicant can decide if he/she wants to continue joining eGO or not. I like the idea of a chat or something before the applicant is accepted, however we simply do not have enough people who can dedicate the amount of time this would require. To my knowledge, with the council, advisors, DL's, ect. we already have this backbone he is referring to. I think this is why eGO is already as successful as it is. I think the personal chats would make becoming an =(e)= more honorable than some feel it is, but would also deter some away from our clan because they may feel that joining eGO will become more than just a group to play with benefits.

-Promotion Process: Although sometimes some people may be promoted quicker than others, it does not mean that a single person can promote someone themselves. It takes more than one person to make a person move up the ranks. EdgeGamers, Org has a council of people who review these possible promotions. I think that these people are promoted quicker because they are more involved and make themselves more available and noticed to those who vote on these things.

-Vent: AGREED! 100% One of the reasons I refuse to use our vent other than for meetings and events is because of the complete chaos. Also, I dont like having everyone yelling in my ear when I'm trying to pwn all u nublets, so thats the other reason I'm rarely in vent.

:) Sorry about the long post, and if it all sounds like blabberishnishnosh (made up language). These are just my thoughts on the post. Thanks for whoever wrote this because I as you see I agree with much of what you have to say, but just think we could refine it a bit.

Just as an addendum. Mandatory Meetings.

Edge Gamers Org has a member list of 22,318 members. That's either everyone who got an e or everyone who ever visited the forums. Don't really care. Let's say 2% are still active.
That means 446 people. (I suspect the real number is a tad higher)
Total members that have visited the forum today: 879
The most members online in one day was 2,206, 04-10-2009.
So let's get us all together at the mandatory meeting. Oh dear we can only have 200 people in vent at the same time.
So 226 people could not attend the meeting. Lazy disinterested sods. Let's send them all to coventry. On the plus side that means a smaller, more intimate, and more manigable clan.
On the down side we're streched pretty thin for admin on too many of our servers as it is. Forcing people out may be contraindicated.

I'm getting really sick of people saying new e's don't know what they're getting into. All of you who have said that should immediately go and read the sticky "Start Here!" in the Recruitment Office. Spitfire'd said it right. Look back on your application. Did you know what you were getting into and what eGO was about? Just like Spitfire'd said, it's their fault if they don't read the stickies, but it is given to them before they are accepted.

Not all people are on some magical list where they get promoted. You get promoted if you deserve it.

I dont know more of the "system", and I have no clue how I got a G, like Rellik said: "Oh my god WHAT HAVE THEY DONE" to my blog post about me being happy about my promotion.

Mandatory meetings, well like everyone has said, we have lives, and we have people around the globe.

I wont comment on the way people should be "let in", but peeps should know what they are doing, and if they dont like the way eGO works, they are free to leave.

Just my something. Also I just walked home from school, so there might be some weird typos or something. I need to eat now.

I like the vent revisions and maybe the promotion revisions, but I disagree with almost everything else.

Mandatory meetings and quotas? I am sorry but I joined eGO to have a good time while playing the games that I enjoy with a great group of people. I did not join to get bogged down in administrative things while I have a thesis and classes to attend to. If this was a "hardcore" clan I never would have joined. I am happy to help out with anything or attend meetings when I have the time, but since often I don't I am more than happy to leave the administrative work to people that do have the time. I'll contribute in that fashion whenever I get the chance. There is plenty of room for advancement of people that can regularly help with administrative details and give valuable feedback to the leadership.

Unless you're having a lot of trouble running the organization in it's current form I say leave it the way it it. Le the volunteers help with running things. When you start assigning jobs and forcing meetings you're going to suck a lot of the fun out of the clan. Also keep in mind that assigning jobs, keeping track of who comes to meetings, and keeping track of quotas while create a lot of administrative overhead. You may find that you've created more work for yourself rather than lessening it. I didn't come here for a job, I came to escape my job.

If this makes me one of the lazy people that doesn't deserve my O then by all means demote me. I could care less about my rank so long as I get to have fun with a great group of people.

"if the machine isn't broke stop trying to fix it" I know, I know another over used platitude. But it does fit well here...

Meetings are Impossible for me... But I have an idea... If we take a poll on things that we want changed then the council can Put them into effect... vent is a good idea... and promotions as always should be earned... I haven't been on a clan that wasn't that way... Good read.. My thoughts any way...
