It always seems to me that everyone, or almost everyone... has an agenda. The agenda here seems pretty clear.
I have said from the very beginning of my time here that meetings are an absolute MUST, so that leadership are able to gather and invoke or enforce new rules, policies, etc., so that the rest of the clan can adhere to them. I have said from the beginning that the clan needs to know where we are financially so that we do not plummet to the ground, but have been told that..."We shouldn't have these meetings because they somehow cause turmoil"......
So as far as mandatory meetings. Make them happen!!!! If the leadership is unwilling to comply with this, or unwilling to be there for the challenges that face us. Simply, fade them out. There is far too much work that needs to be done, to have these tasks fall on the leadership that is giving so much to the clan, therefore burning them out. It?s a vicious cycle of feeling like you?re doing most of the work, and then finding yourself burnt out.
I have been on this clan for many moons, and I can tell you right now that I haven't heard from many people in leadership. Why is that? Why are DL's, Advisors, sitting in channels disengaging from new recruits ( not all of them of course)? Wouldn't that be almost a......"isn't it your responsibility to guide these new recruits so that they're able to give their 100% to the clan and community? Where are the Manager's to lay the smack down on these people, when they fall out of line in conjunction with their responsibility as a leader?
Back in the day when I ran "many vents", and ran a clan that ran top tier status in old school Raven Shield, BF series, DF series and so forth......I would have to agree with you on the many different channels that segregate players from each other and moreover endorse the perception of "clique". With that said, the only thing that will EVER endorse camaraderie is going to take place within the game, or on a personal level. So in essence. Making vent more "personable", could be more rewarding for our clan , but would have to be closely monitored so that people don't feel 'ran out', or feel as if they're being harrassed by other people within the community. Sometimes - - - I just dont' feel like to be bothered, so......in a matter of factly........It's PARAMOUNT that people within the community have the ability to "hide" within a channel and talk amongst a fellow friends without being bothered, ?annoyed?, or trapped where peeps are talking about how a 727 was apprehended by UFO?s and was later shotdown by a secret organization, only to find that the secret organization was somehow affiliated to EGO. One way or another ? I don?t want to hear it, so I?ll run out of the channel as fast as I can.
As far as the recruiting process goes. You said it as I would have said it. I do believe that the process of ?approving? every single person that comes here and allowing them to put the =(e)= tag on, is very shallow. Why not ?interview? that person, find out WHY they?re joining, what they look to gain by joining, and most importantly, what they?re willing to give back to the clan. From experience in being here, I can?t even count how many times an app has been approved, to see that person on a couple of occasions, and then disappear entirely.
Quotas: I again, have to agree with this. I only can speak for myself. When I ran clans in the past, I can?t even put in words how much time I spent communicating with my clanmates, building rapport, and dedicating my time with recruiting, website building/maintaining, forum moderation, and making myself available to everyone. I have ALWAYS had an open door policy, and have never came off condescending or ?better? than my new recruit, or for that matter hid 90% of the time in a locked vent channel. In a matter of fact, I have always concluded with my clan that?.?Hey, if you feel that I?m doing something wrong, please bring me aside and let's yap it out?. So realistically, I have ALWAYS felt as a leader that I to, am replaceable. It's my job to prove to the clan that I have deserve my position as a leader.
With that said, and the way that the upper echelon of the clan has been built, it would be up to those people to somehow measure who is doing what, and to what degree.
